Two reasons

1. Didn't network effectively in the first half of his career - didn't capitalize on the success of Aamir.

2. Poor movie selection in recent years - Will you Marry Me, Ishk Actually, Fever etc.

Bad choice of movies

He made a huge mistake by leaving television for movies.May be he thought he will get more success in bollywood just like he got in television.

My thoughts

1.no great connections in BW.
2. Ranveer and Sidharth entered BW much younger so were able to attract the younger crowds. Fan base Grows from there.
3. Fawad is younger as well. Right now he is not in BW either.

It says the video is prohibited in my country...But by the look of the thumbnail I can tell which scene it was...And boy, that was some of the intense acting i saw from any actor, be it television or otherwise...I watched 'KTH' much later than its actual telecast and this is the scene which got me to go back and watch the entire show until Piyush's death in like 2 days...Rajeev absolutely has blown me away with his Sujal...

As for why he isn't as popular as the others that you have mentioned, like others have mentioned, it boils down to how much networking you can do of youself and it is very important for an actor to be able to connect well at multiple levels...Just the talent will get one nowhere!Sad reality!

I have seen the Rajeev Khandelwal craze IRL. The reason why I laugh at FK's popularity is coz we have seen it all and more during Rajeev's days when he was on top . There is still a Rajeev FC on IF . After KTH was over, Rajeev-Aamna FC ran very actively for 5/6 years on IF. I have yet to see more popular TV actor than Rajeev.
Why he didn't make it in BW? Coz he didn't have solid BW backing and during those days, TV actors were looked down upon . If Rajeev was popular in 2013, he would have been a star by now !!

If any tv actor would have been a star just due to popularity then all the Baruns and KSGs and Gurmeets would have been superstars of Bollywood.But we all know what kind of movies they are getting.

I feel Rajeev himself didn't try to make it big in Bollywood.He accepted every offer that came to him.Most of his movies are critically acclaimed but not successful.He didn't run behind successful movies.Good networking and strong PR was needed.

Secondly,even today people look down upon tv actors.People prefer to cast foreign actors and actresses over talented tv actors and actresses.TV actors don't get good movies,good roles.

Thirdly,people prefer to run after models and star kids than tv actors.

I am guessing next generation superstars are only going to be star sons and star daughters.
