Super happy for once a good movie has also worked at box office.

Most of the times crap movies like Dilwale and Ki and Ka end up doing business and you are like what??

And good movies like Lootera, HTP don't , and again you are like what???

So far, this year has been really great. I loved Airlift, Neerja and K&S and feel that good that these good movies could do well commercially as well.

Kapoor & Sons Business Update

Kapoor and Sons has folded up pretty quickly as the film drooped fast after the second week. The business of Kapoor & Sons till date is as follows

Week One - 44,77,00,000

Week Two - 17,46,00,000

Third Week- 5,65,00,000

Fourth Week - 1,25,00,000 (4 Days)

Total - 69,13,00,000

The film found appreciation in just the metros which is why collections are low in week three and week four. If the flow of releases was weaker it could have held better like a Neerja as that was appreciated in the same places but held out for a little longer as weaker competition.

Dilwale Was A Poor Film And It Still Managed To Gross 140 Crore And That Too With A Clash So Can We Assume That If Fan Is Decent It Can Do 200 Crore And Good Then Reach 300 Crore And Rescue Shahrukh Khan.

Q. Dilwale was a poor film and it still managed to gross 140 crore and that too with a clash so can we assume that if Fan is decent it can do 200 crore and good then reach 300 crore and rescue Shahrukh Khan.

Ans. Shahrukh Khan is an established star, just like the fate of Dilwale makes little difference, nor will Fan..For a big established star,you need a string of low grossing films to say a star needs to be rescued. As for Fan business it does not work the way you have pointed out. A Kapoor & Sons is for 5 cities, a Bajrangi Bhaijaan is for across the board, Fan seems for 20-25 cities (like Airlift) and if good the following of Shahrukh Khan will take it further but a 300 number is impossible without universal appeal and till today even 200 crore has not even been reached without it. If it gets 200 it would be a first.

Ans. Probably not the highest ever but in recent history its the highest ever though the rating systems have changed..

Q. Is Kapoor & Sons actually a bigger grosser than Airlift as both are content type films but Airlift had bigger cast which works better in Overseas?

Ans. Airlift is more in the main main markets of UK, US, Gulf and Australia as it is way ahead in Gulf but as Kapoor & Sons had a popular Pakistani actor and Airlift was patriotic film, the difference in Pakistan is over $600k and this will take Kapoor & Sons around $300k ahead in the final tally. .

Q. What sort of opening can be expected from Housefull 3 , Rustom and 2.0?

Ans. The promos are not out for any films and its that which decide initial. On fair value expectations, Housefull 3 should be aiming to be Akshay Kumar's biggest market, Rustom is a clash so impossible to say how that will affect but solo its level should be similar to Airlift initial. 2.0 is totally unknown, obviously South will be huge and in the Hindi market its totally unknown. Could be 5, 10 or 15, will depend on how the multiplex audience see the film.

Kapoor & Sons is the highest grosser of March, FAN expected to top April

2016 has been a good year so far for the Hindi film industry. Airlift became the all-time highest grosser of January, Neerja came close to beating Gunday but ended up taking the second spot and Kapoor & Sons continued the terrific run by becoming the all-time highest grosser of March.

However, no film in February and March has ever crossed the 100 crore mark, which is strange because every other month has two or more 100 crore domestic grossers. There can only be two reasons for this - exams and the fact that big stars in the last few years are opting to release their films in the second half of the year.

All eyes are now on Shah Rukh Khan's Fan. The target isn't big - the highest grosser of April is Housefull 2 (112 crore).

The modern-age family drama Kapoor And Sons has done a superb business at the overseas box office.

The film has grossed $ 7.02 million which is 46.61 crores in the international markets at the Box Office.

The film raked in around 14.05 crores from USA, around 3 crores from Canada, approx 5 crores from UK and Ireland, 2 crores from Australia.

This Shakun Batra directorial venture features Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Fawad Khan, Rajat Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Ratna Pathak Shah in pivotal roles.

The film is produced under the banner of Dharma Productions.

BOI is the only site writing negatives about Kapoor & Sons.

AFAIK, K&S has made ~ 73 Cr (72.97 to be precise) and was almost comparable to Piku (which was a higher budget movie)

BOI writes negative about any film which doesnt appeal to single screens of places like UP, Bihar, Rajasthan. They dont realize audience in cities and these places are very different and expectations of these audiences are very different too. Its great to have a universal hit but such films are fewer in numbers and coming down even more as audiences gets fragmented. Also K&S wasnt really meant to appeal to the wider audience hence its budget, promotions and release size was controlled from the start. The film though is a clean hit and even BOI had to give it that. Moreover they cant get themselves to still take Fawad's name. An actor who is two films old beat two decades old Akshay Kumar overseas that too for his highest overseas grosser. 😉But never mind...I believe if someone has to make a mark he will...if not now eventually.
