The imagery these lines bring , you are there seeing the pattern on the ceiling while reading it. Many of us would have felt these form on the ceiling staring at it in the reflection of light but to get a child coo to it is a lovely thought process ... Very real

Moments of pain leave us numb

The realization that a dearly loved person ceases to be sinks in slowly

A helpless silent integral part of you leaves leaving a part in you

In time we come to terms with the void

Life moves on its altered course

We derive strength and solace in what they in us instilled

Peace that they no longer suffer and are at peace

We try to busy ourselves with shores or build a shell and step into isolation

Our state our response our attachment defines the intensity we hurt within

A distraction in the form of work hobby new person to love

Alleviates to some measure the weight that settles deep within

The world around gauges to some measure the pillow and pangs hunger and words

Express the rest indifferent and caring rally around us alike

To catch a final glimpse to bid a final farewell

Reality will hit us hard to struggle we succumb we rise we fall

Every loss triggers a stab in every heart...that which is festering or buried in a corner

Nourished by the grief and tear the mere thought ...memory evokes

It was magnificent writing Nisha
The way fear and warmth of all the characters came out was just awesome

Appa's care towards dude.. Inspite of the grief due to loss
Dudes way of reacting seeing Ranjan and hearing Nivi's voice
Wht can I say each and every line is just sooo good

Loss of those we love or memories of losses we have faced trigger fresh pain at times...posting this to remind all of us who in throes of pain of varying degrees that life is more important than perceptions we carry of ourselves and others.🤗 to those of my friends in need of it

"Never Leave"

Manya was a late arrival for Periappa's event
She did make it though, in between the family had flown to Sydney for her commencement
She was now a full blown Microbiologist
R&B had made a few phone calls to his "venture buddies" upon her asking, she as usual wasnt sure if she wanted to work for someone or be on her own
Makarand couldnt get a visa on time so he couldnt be with her for graduation

Amma woke when Appa clanked the pots and pans, and knocked on II's door gently

Greeted R&B asked him about his flight, asked him if he would eat idlis or II could make him a sandwich
    He would have agreed to a turkey samich but that wasnt happening

He wondered if he should have asked Sam to send some food for him

He was sitting on the divan consoling his wife as he held the baby

"Now you are here, maybe she can go home and come back for the 9th day?" Amma offered

"Naa engeyum poley ma PLEASE" (I am not leaving) II hissed

R&B squirmed unable to state his opinion

"I am going to bring something for u to eat" Amma left, glaring at II

Nivi stood on R&B's thighs, rocking and cooing

Sitting down every few second, an unsteady blob of a human

"I want to stay here" II said
He didnt respond

"Can u stay here for a week?" she asked

"I am sorry I cant, I can come check on you and HER" he kissed his daughter

"It wont be the same ever again... I hate to leave I know when I return, everything will be different" she whispered

He nodded
He didnt necessarily want to start a fight now

"U need to think of all the good things" he hugged her shoulder and kissed her head

"I told him I kissed you the evening you kissed me" she whispered
He half smiled

"Did he approve?" he asked

"Probably not" II joked, giggling and sniffling

"Ouch!!" he whispered
Nivi cooed-cried

"Ennadi? Like I am supposed to not kiss him or what?"II argued with her daughter

Nivi cooed back

"Vandutta ille iru koodave" (now hes here no? Stay with him)

"Do u mean it?" he asked his heart skipped a beat as he thought of taking the lil angel home

"Oh great!! He only cares about the baby" II cried

"I didnt say that" R&B quickly went on the defensive before he gave himself away too much

"Sam stayed here Wed night she lay by Sam al night... she just wants her bua or Daddee" II sniffled

"I was teaching her to say Periya Thatha" (badey tayaji) II began to cry

"shhh shhh" he said softly


Amma brought poha and chai for him... he wondered what happened to the Horlicks Mr Iyer was making

"Onakku venuma dee?" Amma asked (do u wnat some?)

II shook her head, but Amma brought some for her anyway

He enjoyed it a lot... it tasted good, his belly roared in agreement

He sipped his chai as Nivi angled for his cup, he dipped his finger and stuck it on her tongue
She sucked noisily

II laughed

"Wonder how she will react to Sam Adams" he whispered

II smacked him

II fed Nivi on the divan, he took the baby to bed and lay down by her, II stretched on the divan, shutting her eyes staring out at the
dripping tree leaves, every drop sparkling in one brief luminescent flash before it dived off the tree...

He was at Sam's the next day since Ranjan had planned on staying at D II until II returned

He chuckled to himself at the thought of being unable to go to the empty MM
Ranjan's presence was immaterial to him mostly, Sam pestered him to text Ranjan if he was outta town, so when ever he landed in Delhi, he would send a text "I am on my way from the airport"
He struggled to say "Home"

"Thank u" Ranjan would say politely

He had carefully noted how he struggled to sit up, wear his glasses and dropped his phone
Fumbled...
He wandered around Sam's pool, Lasya had a swim coach she growled at Nivi ever so often as she pretended to swim

"Look at me!" "Look at me" she shouted

She said many things that didnt make sense, she got Nivi super excited, she squealed each time Lasya spoke

Sam brought a chilled beer

"Woh naha legi to le ja usko D II, I know Iyers have a custom where u have to take a shower after every visit"

"Did u get to see him when he was in the hospital?"

Sam's eyes filled up, she shook her head

He exhaled

"Kitni daaku hai teri beti R&B, DO GHANTE ho gaye... chooon taq nahi" Sam smacked Nivi's swim suit clad butt

II had reluctantly let both of them go, she had joined him on the bed around 5 AM, cuddling, he slept with his two fave women on each side

"She wants to be out" "U know the moment he says "SAIR" she cocks up her head ready to break out of the arms that are holding her, R&B spoke findly of Ranjan

"I think more than II I think he wants to be with HER" Sam took a scowling Nivi forcefully from R&B

"Sabko apni is chhoti si finger wrap kar lena... haan?" she cooed to Nivi

Nivi smiled joyously, shaking

Lasya waddled to R&B "Phew!! I thought she will never leave!!" she quickly climbed on to his lap and leaned back clutching his shirt tail

Manya came down dressed in a pale orange suit and a bindi

"U look nice" R&B commented

"Ek din baarish nahi, so I gott to dress up" Manya smiled

"Ready to go?" R&B asked

"Chal.." she said

He waved his bottle, indicating he needs to finish first

"Are we going home tonight?" Manya asked missing MM

"She is goingt o be there for a while" he said

"While say kya matlab hai dimpal"

R&B fed Lasya some crackers slowly

"Not sure..."

Sam returned with Nivi

"Ready? Ja phir"


"Do u know she wants to be at D II?" "she doesnt want to leave D II?" Manya picked up the cudgel

"Haan to?"

"Its her tayaji... not" Manya stopped

"Watch ur tongue" Sam warned softly "Dad ke aage aise baat mat kar"

"I know he is there right?" Manya asked

"Ek kaam kar TU JAA MAT" Sam said

"Whose side are u on?" Manya argued

"TERI to bilqul nahi" Sam said furiously...

Uff  Manyas attention seeking naatak is back! Poor confused messed up girl. II and periappa - there are soemrelairknahips which go beyond the title. Sometimes the closest ones are the most distant and some like II and periaapa's withot a word ever said were the closest...it's all about the feeling not the rishta. RB B and Nivi - another inseparable bond has been created, a unique, sabse  alag, beyond the ordinary RB's and NIVi's will be one of the most beautiful relationships of SOSY From now.
