5 reasons why we still love Chak De India!

August 10, 2015 Urvi Parikh 382 reads 2 comments

'Chak De India' is undoubtedly one of the best sports film in Bollywood. The film which released in 2007 went on to become the biggest blockbuster of the year. And today as the movie has clocked 8 years, we present to you 5 reasons why we still love the movie. Tell us which is your favorite reason to love this SRK starrer!

1. Sports Drama: 'Chak De India' was probably one of first movies which revolved around the game of Hockey, which is our National sport! Director Shimit Amin not just focused on the story but also included lot of the game which connected with the audience.

2. Shah Rukh Khan as Kabir Khan: Shah Rukh, who was synonymous with romantic roles, stunned all with his role of coach Kabir Khan in the movie. He played a serious, sincere and a loyal coach in the film. His stubble look was to die for. This has been SRK's one of the most endearing roles and I am sure many would agree! Interestingly, this role was first offered to Salman Khan, who couldn't do the film due to create differences with the director.

3. Girls as protagonists: The movie highlighted the gender disparity in the sports field and how women were looked down upon. With 16 girls playing the lead along with Shah Rukh Khan, this movie was sure to click with the audience. From Vidya Malawade to Shilpa Shukla, Chitrasi Rawat, Sagarika Ghatge, all were bang on!

4. High on Patriotism: The level of patriotism is so high in the film that it increases the flow of your adrenaline ten times. The scene which shows SRK watching a 'firang' hoist our National flag gives you goosebumps! Absolutely whistle worthy moment of the film!

5. Sattar Minute: Director Shimit Amin and producer Aditya Chopra took several months to audition girls who became the members of the women hockey team in the film. The selected girls underwent rigorous training and workshop before shooting the actual scenes. Probably this made the movie look more real and created a strong impact on the minds of the audience. And who can forget the inspirational Sattar Minute speech by SRK. It still inspires many!

All those points + Jaideep Sahni's story, beautiful direction of Shimit Amin and of course star power of SRK.
He actually acted in this movie. SRK has now stopped taking risks 👎🏼

I don't think I have ever seen a film with a more layered narrative than CDI. It was a film on hockey in a nation where whatever little sports-craze is left after cricket goes into football or tennis. It dealt with prejudices against muslims, stereotypes of the northeast, divisiveness among people from various states, evoked patriotism; all while making a strong feminist statement challenging the conventional gender roles. And there still might be points I am missing. This masterpiece Bollywood should rightfully be proud of churning out ❤️
