Koimoi analyses the profit and loss measures of each film that is released, keeping a close eye on the investments made on it. The profit margins of the films are calculated on the basis of the film's return on investment (ROI). ROI is calculated by the number of times a movie earns over its production and marketing costs. Contrary to popular belief, 100 crore club is not the index of profit or success. But it is the ROI the film garners that makes it lucrative of profit incurring as a venture!

PK 3rd Monday (18th Day) Collection Update, Marching towards 350.

As early reports for the 3rd Monday (18th day) is coming for PK, film is holding exceptionally well at places. In fact drop in occupancy is just around 20% from 3rd Friday. However ticket prices on Monday is much lesser than weekend and hence, drop in collection will be bit bigger than occupancy.

PK started slowly on Morning shows with occupancy reported around 15%. After that film picked up well in Noon shows to report good occupancy of around 25%. Occupancy in Evening and Night shows are in the region of 30% which is pretty good again.

PK has so far collected over 305 crore nett at box office. Film has broken all existing record. Film is trending exceedingly well and is now aiming for an unrealistic and tough target of 350 crore nett at box office. Good trend of Monday suggest film should do well in 3rd weekdays also.

Though it is too early to predict any numbers, but looking at early samples. PK should easily cross 4 crore nett for the day. If film performs well in Rest of the day shows, there is outside chance that film might even touch 5 crore nett mark for the day. Excellent!

PK 18th day 3rd Week Monday Box Office Collection is around 5-5.5 cr taking the 18 days total collections to 310 cr. The third week business should touch 42-43 cr mark easily.

The film should cross 320 cr mark by the end of third week . The movie is running to packed houses in single screens even in the third week which is a big task to achieve in today's times. Multiplexes are as usual running to very occupancy in most number of shows.

The film has dropped by around 52 % from the second week which a very good number for a film aiming at high lifetime numbers PK is having an unprecedented run at the ticket window and will target the 4th week record of 3 Idiots too in spite of a new release in the form of Tevar. If the movie manages to beat the fourth week record the the movie has good chances of touch 350 cr mark.

PK MUMBAI Business:: 100cr crossed
2015-01-05 16:47:590News
100cr is figure which is crossed by only 7 films (excluding PK) from All India this year whereas PK makes it in a single territory alone.. Movie has collected 99.15cr approx by Sunday and is all set to cross 100cr Mark today.. PK is first film ever to reach 3 digits in any circuit..

Mumbai circuit was not expanding much over the years as 79cr approx of 3 Idiots is not even reached close by any movie but PK not only reached it rather it crossed it.. Movie will end its run over 115cr approx Mark which is more than All India figure of biggies like Jai Ho and Holiday..

Lifetime Benchmarks :: All Belong To Aamir Khan
2015-01-05 21:20:110News
In last few years business is becoming limited to big opening Weekend or Week.. If a movie scores record opening Week and then perform average after that then too it get tag of huge blockbuster at Boxoffice..

But still in such situatuions a movie need to get record Week two and three to create new benchmarks Which is only possible if you get record opening and then must have fantastic reports to ensure record coming Weeks.. In last few years this thing of creating benchmark is done by very few films and all those films belong to same actor I.e. Aamir Khan.. Except him there is no actor in recent years whose single film created record for more than One Week rather they created for only first Week.. Since last 6 years Week Two onward record is with Aamir Khan..

Below Are Big Benchmarks with films creating those benchmarks in last few years..

100cr.. Ghajini (2008)

150cr.. 3 Idiots (2009)

200cr.. 3 Idiots (2009)

250cr.. Dhoom 3 (2013)

300cr.. PK (2014)

PK' Overtakes Dhoom 3 As #1 Bollywood Movie Ever In India, North America

by Nancy Tartaglione January 4, 2015 10:30am

Bollywood star Aamir Khan has officially outdone himself. His holiday season release PK already held the record for the biggest-ever North American bow of a Bollywood film, and as of last weekend was the market's top foreign-language title of 2014. At the end of its second week, the Rajkumar Hirani-directed comedy/drama has become the highest-grossing Bollywood movie ever in North America with $9.15M, and in Australia at $1.9M. Meanwhile, at home in India, it is now the No. 1 release of all time with $65.2M. The global cume to date is $86.2M.

Since going out day-and-date on December 19 courtesy of Disney-owned UTV, PK has steadily beaten records previously set by Aamir Khan's 2013 megahit Dhoom 3. Its opening in India was $21M, besting Dhoom 3's $17.64M locally. Its North American bow of $3.57M outperformed Dhoom 3's $3.44M. And, its current North American cume of $9.15M sits above Dhoom 3's final tally of about $8M. For it to beat Dhoom 3's final worldwide gross, PK would have to reach $89M. It's still got a clear run for the next several days at home " until Tevar with Arjun Kapoor lands on January 9 " so it wouldn't be a surprise for it to pass the milestone.

Khan, one of Bollywood's biggest names, is known for blockbusters like 3 Iditos and Dhoom 3, and also produced and starred in 2001 Foreign Language Oscar nominee Lagaan. Anushka Sharma, next up in Anurag Kashyap's Fox Star Studios-produced Bombay Velvet, also stars in PK. The story sees Khan as an alien who lands in the Rajasthan desert with a mission to study life on Earth. When the device that allows him to communicate with his spaceship is stolen, he sets out to find it while attempting to blend in. Ultimately, he heads to Delhi where the fish-out-of-water asks innocent questions that hold a deep and valuable meaning about the belief system that humans have created to reach God. The film has stirred up some controversy over its faith-based elements, but that clearly hasn't dented box office.

After a strong year for Bollywood films around the globe, 2015 is shaping up with some exciting looking titles. They include drama Piku with Amitabh Bachchan, Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone; Bombay Velvet, which I expect to see as part of the Cannes selection; Salman Khan in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo; and Shah Rukh Khan in Fan. However, the 2015 Christmas corridor currently has no Aamir Khan title slated. Instead, the frame for the moment belongs to Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in Bajirao Mastani, and Padukone again, with Ranbir Kapoor, in Tamasha.
