Ashoka failed because of poor script, dialogues ( they had a johnny level scene who jokes about modern technology or something- very silly). And it tried to present the entire life-span of Ashoka without doing any phase it's proper justification.
Dialogues are also a reason why SRk never became the Ashoka, it was always him the superstar than the king.

Physically i think he was spot on.

Usually Hrithik is lauded for his depiction of Akbar , which is silly because height wise, Akbar was barely 5 or 5'2. The film scored, because of love story, the gorgeous sets and the chemistry between the leads.

Ashoka had incredible cinematography and excellent music. Just that much attention wasn't paid in fleshing out the characters.

In that movie, you replace SRK with any actor and the result would still be the same.

How did this go from SRK and Ashoka to Lord Shiva and how masculine he is ? 😕

He can dance with the best of them, but you better hope he is not dancing as the world will end...😛

As for how masculine Lord Shiva is or not, he could be 5 feet tall or 50 feet tall, but people do know what the linga is, right ? 😉

I better leave now before Lord Shiva opens his third eye and turns me into dust for blasphemy. 😆

My bad. 100% my fault.

I disagree with the misconception that a warrior/Kshatriya is a macho man of big built and stature. I have used examples of most well-known historic warriors including Shivaji and even resorted to mythology to no avail.

SRK was miscast as Asoka because he isn't masculine enough. I strongly disagree.

SRK was miscast as Asoka because his acting range is limited to romantic or he was a bad actor. This I can accept to be a valid argument.

I guess if people have a very strong perception of what being a warrior is all about and ties it solely to contemporary macho images, I can never change that.

Exactly...it had nothing to do with SRK not looking masculine enough to be Ashoka...I mean that is the most ridiculous argument I have heard so far😆😆

One can disagree but no denying that public at large has certain perception. Even when Asoka was announced with SRK many had either laughed or got surprised.
It might be ridiculous to some but this perception exists.

They like kings or warriors to look tough. Mukesh Khanna got accepted as Bheeshma and other king type roles but got rejected when he played Buddha in 90s. Thanks to perception as he was considered tough enough to be Bheeshma or a Rana but too tough to be Buddha.

I am not justifying these perceptions are all correct. But do accept that they play their role.

Nothing against actors.

On HR, I think he was too glamorous to be Akbar. I read Akbar was not that tall and was kind of overweight.
