CHAPTER 41
A RAY OF HOPE

(Banner credits - Cutyee)

Panchi was looking at the deep waters of Thames. They were painful yet mesmerizing at the same time. Just like her life, which had turned upside down due to the vicious play of time. Though they say that, "When heart cries, eyes smile" but for Panchi her eyes rested in her heart. It was her heart which saw each and every event that happened in a last few day and felt itself get crushed under its weight. She closed the pair of those eyes which were equivalent to lotus in beauty. Feeling the warmth of her soul, she sought to cleanse herself and get free of each and every debt which rested deep inside the layers of her heavy heart.

But soon a voice disturbed her as Ulupi said from behind, "Panchi, which new ways are you searching to find yourself a new world? Because the old one is destroyed".

Panchi opened her eyes and turned around to confront Ulupi. "And it is you who worries about me? I thought you were the one who destroyed it! Why then, dear,do you worry about me?" .

"You are too timid to be a human! Panchi, you ask me why I worry about you? Well the thing is that in your destruction, lies my victory. Also, what do you think you can do now, Panchi? I guess it is too late. I mean, the quest you came for has stopped before completing. You should better return back to India and lead a normal life".

"Ulupi, have you ever heard of the word - HOPE! That is what I believe in. You might have split the our family, but you still have not even touched the unity. They possess unity in their hearts. They might be pieces of a broken light but deep inside their heart is the same source of light, which binds them all into a single ray of light which is capable of defeating every possible stone which rests in their way. And if you talk about the quest? I have no idea, why don't you want us to complete it but I can surely tell you that we will. Ulupi you don't even know how much we all bond at heart. And I pity that!" Panchi told her with all the might as possessed.

"Sad! But Panchi! Let me remember what happened on 1st of January. The day when Vasusen returned home after almost twenty-four hours. I am sure you remember it vividly! Don't you?" Ulupi replied back.

Ulupi's words forced Panchi to peep back in time and remember what happened on that fateful day, when their lives took a rapid change.

Vasusen entered into the house and shouted out of the agony which was felt by his heart on knowing about his brother's betrayal, "Paarth!".

True to his words and obedient to his brother's command that he was, Paarth came running and the second his eyes saw Vasusen safe and healthy in front of them, all the worry in his head due to Vasusen's disappearance, vanished in a split second. "Bhai!" he called out with utmost affection and went ahead to hug his elder brother.

But blinded by anger, Vasusen stopped Paarth and called out, "Everyone! Where are you all? Come out! We need to talk some things out!".

When everyone came out and saw Vasusen back, their joy knew no limits to rejoice. Vrushali in particular could not control her happiness and ran straight into Vasusen and gave him a tight hug.

After getting free of Vrushali's hold Vasusen continued, "So, I guess you all were worrying a lot about me. Well then you could have asked Paarth! Right?".

Everyone was swept by shock and astonishment due to Vasusen's words. "You knew about his whereabouts, Paarth?" asked Shubhi. Confused and shocked at the same time Paarth answered, "Bhai, what are you saying? How will I know about you? And where were you all the while?".

"Oh... Really Paarth? You didn't! Well then remember the day of 31st December. Everyone was getting ready for the party, when you called me and asked me to reach Western London since you sensed strong energy signals there? You remember something?" Vasusen asked a dumbstruck Paarth.

"What! Bhai! Why would ... Why would I do that? And what energy signals? I didn't even catch any signals that day. I didn't do anything to do with the quest that day! What are you saying?" Paarth asked in great shock.

"Exactly! You didn't sense anything there but you still called me there so that you could kill me with that big robotic monster you had left there! " Vasuen shouted at him, shocking everyone.

"What! Vasusen now what is it? What are you saying? Why would Paarth do that? Why would anybody do that to you?" Vrushali, who was always believed Vasusen's words, asked him.

"Paarth can answer your question better, Vrushali! Come on Paarth! Why? Why did you do that?" Vasusen asked him with fire burning in his eyes.

"I didn't do that! Why would I do that! I am your brother. Why would, for God's sake, will I try to kill you. Bhai, this is surely someone else who is trying to rift us apart!" Paarth told Vasusen, who was not ready to believe him.

"No Paarth! You are lying. I somehow escaped that giant. But I never knew it was you. But until that man showed me a photo in which you were clearly adjusting the machine there. You did all that! You planned all that!" Vasusen said with confidence. He was completly convinced that it was indeed Paarth who had planned to kill him.

"Picture! What picture! Bhai, that man might have used some idiotic computer means to edit it. And why did he click my picture anyway! I am telling you bhai this all his plan to stop the quest midway!" Paarth tried his best to explain Vasusen.

"I am not here for explanations. I have come back to tell you that I today, from this very moment forget any kind of relation, whether as a brother or a friend, I had with you. You have killed the faith I possessed for you, Paarth!" Vasusen told Paarth, shocking everyone. The brothers who believed each other more that they believed on God, were fighting. Paarth was broken. His senses had all stopped working. He could only see his brother go to his room as he ended his talk. Paarth was not only broken but devastated.

As a tear forced out of Panchi's eyes, she was brought back to reality where Ulupi waited for her to answer.

"You know what Ulupi I really pity you. I mean the victory on which you are rejoicing, don't you know it is just an illusion created by you and that vicious Iravan. Let me tell you that illusions don't last long. And when this one will end, you will see the faith Paarth and Vasusen have on each other. You think you have split them into two separate ways. But I promise that they will come together again and show you that the little illusion which you have created, cannnot harm the affection they have for each other. You will never be able to stop us in the quest by using such baseless trick because truth, even if is hidden under endless sheets, has the power to come out" Panchi told her confidently, which did alarm Ulupi.

But Ulupi did not stop is asked Panchi a new question, really close to her heart. "Even if those brothers reunite, Panchi, do you think I will lose? You Panchi lost everything that very day when you lost your love!".

Panchi once again was forced by Ulupi's words to remember her confrontation with Paarth.

"You ask me Paarth thay , why cannot we be together? You ask me why have I abandoned your love? You ask me that why don't you have any right on me? Paarth, a husband does have a right on his wife. But he also as to retain it by fulfilling all the duties he has to fulfill for her. But the day he fails to fulfill any duty, which he should - he loses any right which he once possessed. You too have failed Paarth" Panchi told his as tears flowed down her eyes.

"Which duty is it that I did not fulfill?" Paarth asked her.

"Don't you know Paarth? You vowed in the presence of pure fire that you will protect me. Did you fulfill it? Tell me Paarth? Did you speak that day when your wife was dragged in a court full of people and was disrobed? Tell me Paarth. Answer me. Did you speak that day when your wife, purer that soma, was called a prostitute? You didn't! I know it very well Paarth ,how does it feel when, the only person you want to speak, remains silent, when you want him is stand for you but he is busy in following their "so-called" dharma. I know it very well Paarth. It know it very well! I know what is pain, what are sorrows!" Panchi told him, looking straight into his deep eyes, which were slowly filled with tears.

"I too know, Panchi. I too know what are pain and sorrows!" Paarth told her.

"No. You don't! That is the only difference between you and me, Paarth! When wishes are someone else's but your world is destroyed, that is called pain. When someone else vows but your world is barred, that is called pain. When someone wants revenge but you have to burn in its fire, that is called pain. When someone blindfolds their eyes but you feel the darkness, that is called pain. When one's blindness causes your life's light and joy to disappear, that is called joy. When you have to lose your loved ones because someone is proud of his wealth and wants more of it, that is what you call pain. When a warrior calls you a prostitute in court, that is when you feel pain. When you have a husband who is claimed to be the best archer in the world but still keeps silent when you are insulted in front of his eyes, that is called pain. When you are an empress but are treated worse than a slave, that is called pain." Panchi told him. Her tears were not her weakness but her strength. But today, it was different.

"Maata Satyawati had wishes, but then why, did we and our children suffer? Pitamah Bhishma vowed to protect Hastinapur, why then did we lose our loved ones? Mamashri Shakuni wanted revenge, why was I disrobed of self respect? Maata Gandhari blindfolded herself, why did we lose our joy? It was Taatshri Dhritrashtra who was blind, why did happiness run out of our sights? It was Duryodhan who was proud and had greed for more, why did those innocent people of Hastinapur lose their loved ones? You brother, Vasusen, Maharathi Karna, he was a warrior a great warrior, why did he call me a prostitute in a court full of people? You were a warrior, why did you not utter a word when your wife was insulted? Why did they treat me like that even though I was the empress of Aryavart? Go Paarth first search an answer for these questions, then ask me something else." Panchi said.

Soon enough Panchi returned to reality and answered Ulupi, "Words like love don't suit your tongue. Don't use them. Ulupi do you even know what is love. Love is not a war which is lost or won. It is a temple, where two people worship each other with idols of affection. It is a school, where two students learn the lessons of faith, affection and truth. Ulupi, you said that I have lost my love. I say, I am the won who has actually won it. And you, Ulupi, have lost for eternity. You know why? Because you have no one to love you".

Ulupi was left numb. Her senses were shouting loudly, " Because you have no one to love you". She knew that every word Panchi told was true but also she was the won would lose everytime even if she wins because in this fight between emotions and greed would tear her apart.

Hello,

So I decided finally to start reading your story chronologically from the beginning. 7 chapters down so far but definitely intrigued by this quest. Each of the characters seem really interesting and I am loving the incorporation of gadgets. I am also thinking that if I read seven chapters a day I should be able to catch up within a week. I hope you don't mind me being late but I'm going to try my best and then I can finally understand the story.
I have one question though and as I have little knowledge of epithets and other names for the characters of MB I was going to ask if vasusen was karna. I mean he is with vrushali so I guess it is him. am I right? 😳
Next my favourite line from the seven chapters I have read so far is:
"Why are you holding that big book in you hand bahiya?", asked Yudhishtir. "Good! Now you take this book and find out the meaning of the word 'privacy' from it. If you are able to find the meaning, do whatever you want to but don't you dare knock on this door again",
I also do not understand why paarth left the scroll like that - ready for anyone to steal and why the door was open so that he could get into the house between the dense trees. of course I found out in the next update that is was just a dream 😆
the only thing I found difficult to follow and I hope you don't mind is the dialogue. sometimes I have to read it twice to figure out who is saying what as they are incorporated into the same paragraph but that is easily worked out.
will read the next seven tomorrow hopefully and return with more detailed comments.
I don't have a favourite character so far but I like the personalities that all the characters do have. 😊
