Supriya Pilgaonkar- I think she has been one of the most consistent actors right from the time she started and I think she has managed to survive in the TV industry very well. All her characters upto what she did in the recently Shergill parivaar show were strong and well etched. I love her acting. She is my favorite TV actress.
Other TV actresses whom I used to like a lot were Churni Ganguly for Choti Si Asha, Sandhya Mridul, Anita Kanwal, Neelanjana for Hip Hip Hurray, Renuka Sahane for Surabhi, Durga jasraj for Antakshari, Pallavi joshi for Alpaviram, Ratna Pathak for Filmy Chakkar, Iravati Harshe for Chota Muh aur Badi baat along with many telefilms, Surekha Sikri ,Shefali Chaya, Achint Kaur and Mandira Bedi.
Someone spoke about the content of the serials in the 90's being better than the present day and that's because of the names attached to the old serials- Mahesh Bhatt, Anurag Kashyap, Imtiaz Ali, Siddharth Kak, etc.
I literally roll on the floor laughing while seeing the shows telecast today which are promoted as 'bold', having 'stong characters' ,etc...Just an eye wash...The shows in the 90's were much more strong, bold and beautiful..let it be a show involving teenagers like Hip Hip Hurray or a show like Banegi Apni Baat where the title track includes a kissing scene.
I really don't have any hope for future of Indian TV. A 24 , Rishta.com, Satyamev jayate might crop up here and there for a while but at the end everything will come down to Gopi, Topi, Jopi, Hopi bahus.
