The NRIs living abroad r 30 millions.. lets include the overseas born Indians.. its @ 40 millions, now include pakistanis and bangladeshis its @ 50-60 Millions.
Now look at Indian poulation.. 1.2 billions, number of prints for a biggie is 4000 or thereabt. Going at 70% occupancy in first weekend.. and 50% in fisrt weekdays. Compare that too 400 screens abroad for a biggie. Tell me the occupancy rate for a first week and then 2nd and if survives 3rd week.

Now do the math.. no. of overseas ppl watching BW in theatres wud be less than half of Mumbai-Gujarat circuit... that too for a biggie like CE ot K3 or D3.. small movies dont even exist in most places.

The garbad gotala- confusion starts when currency exchange coverter comes into play. 😆 On ave. Us or canada or Aussie or NZ dllar means 55 Rs.. Pound is 100 rs, dirham is 300 Rs..

😆

When rakesh rosan said if u talk abt GROSS (and not net which is Gross- entertainment tax) plus all the revenues K3 generated which includes> overseas, tv/satellite rights, music rights, merchandise, and the SPONSERS (endorsements) which includes Air India, Coca cola (has always been with roshans since KMG), and Mcdonalds .. those 3 i noticed but reviews said there were like 15 brands were seen in the movie.. just imagine how much RR have got from them for movie that wud be watched by families around India.. at least once.. HUGE ammounts.. so he said 500 Crs . And ppl mostly srk and salman fans had a huge laugh at that. Without thinking CE and D3 might have also crossed 500 Crs ( gross+ everything else). 😆 Papa Roshan was called names for being honest.. and he will pay taxes .. others may wanna hide the whole picture.. 😆

To keep it simple, India or overseas .. its all abt distributors (and many many exhibitors) which decides the BO verdict.. hit ya flop. Not the producers. Thats what I tried to make sense numbers of times during K3 ... but i was hitting my head on the wall.. 😆 If producer lies and increase the BO numbers.. the distributors will have to pay taxes on that "fake" numbers.. which they wont and sue the producer. 😆 Its all abt money baby..

@ Blue-ice, I live in Auckland.. 1.5 mil population.. 60, 000 of that from Indian ethnicity.. but very close knit community.. any diwali mela ya Navratri.. its feels like mini India. I have 50 families in Auckland that r related to me someway or other.. and some in Wellington and Hamilton.. So I dont feel like outsider.. 😊

However, I have seen (covered) half of NZ but I still have to cover 90% of India.. even thou I have covered most of Gujarat, Mumbai, goa (south) Rajasthan , Up, Punjab, Delhi, Agra (Taj mahal),

Haridwar-hrishikesh (North)..

India is too big in everyway. 😊

I am a little confused by this concept, its a bit unclear.

Does a movie only get a hit status based on the collections in India only? Or are profits earned internationally also accounted for?

For example, Shaddi Ke Side Effects has a budget of 30 crores, and it has earned 30.83 crores in its first week in India. Now if we add International collections, doesn't that mean that they movie is a hit? So why is being called a flop? (I am only using this movie as an example because I don't get the concept and have come across this issue many times)

I maybe don't understand how this works, so if someone can clarify please 😊

Out of that 30 crore ,only 50 % goes to producers account and remaining 50% is taken by cinema owners.Meaning the film has only earned 15 crore till now for the producers.SKSE would have been a profitable venture at 60 crore .

Meaning any film needs to collect double of its budget to be termed a success.

Wrong! very wrong! A gujarati film made on budget of 50 lacs and earn 1 crs at bo.. is not a success.

The budget stays with the producers.. and what deals they come up with also stays with them.

The real deal is distributors (and then cinemawalas who r the last ppl on the chain) who decides.. profit= hit, loss= flop.. just more than costs= ave.

If budget is the criteria.. Ra-one wud be flop. Not only srk didnt include his fees.. but he sold it cheap tomake it hit. 130 Crs budget.. net is 110 crs..
Talk abt double standards.

By producers here I mean those who invest so it implies distributor as well.In case a film is released by producers ,they are distributors as well .In case they sell it another party becomes a distributor .Distributor share is the most important criteria to decide the verdict .

Budget is not the criteria!Amount the distributors have paid to acquire the movie is most important in deciding the verdict.Budget is not the right word here .Should be called investment.

Well SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS has been a Flop because of the budget...
can a film like this recover 50 crores...please bring any superstar...nothing can work out...in this manner.

i would like to ask the producers for what reason they can spend 50 crores...bull shit.

it should have made in around 15-20 crores max and it would have been a HIT for sure...

and we always blame the actors for the failures of the film -_-
