First of all sorry I haven't commented for 3 updates and a preview but I've been really busy with revision :P
Coming to the updates I loved the way you've expressed Zoya's feelings :-) I hope Asad realises soon he's been acting like an idiot and apologises soon

OK. So apparently my brain decides when I get inspired. Hence this chapter was finished earlier than I anticipated. BUT since it is longer than the ones before.. I will update next on the weekend. Also i kinda felt bad.. since I would update once or twice a day before =P

You guys are really amazing 😳 Really didn't expect so many people to love my story so much 😊 Thanks guys

Well here it is! The whole of Chapter 9!

Chapter 9: "How do you find the words to say, to say Goodbye?"

The previous night at the hotel, Zoya had been tossing and turning. The events and words from that day kept running through her mind like a roller coaster. Allah miyan! Why can't I just stop thinking about all this?

When sleep finally over came her...

Zoya walked in a straight line, down a long corridor, with many doors. The corridor was white, impeccable, glistening. As she passed the doors, she noticed each one had a small window into its respective room. She peered inside one of them. Then the next, and the next, only to see... Mr. Khan.

Mr. Khan saving her in Mangalpur. Mr. Khan carrying her out of Akram's house. Mr. Khan fighting the goondas for her. Mr. Khan comforting her in the garden. Mr. Khan bringing her cheesecake. Mr. Khan holding her while she mourned her father. Mr. Khan telling her not to go...

Mr. Khan... Asad...

She was smiling, tears of happiness welling up in her eyes. Zoya walked further down the corridor to even more doors. But these weren't doors of fond memories...

Mr. Khan... she saw... telling her she is a musibaat, a misfit, has no tezeeb, tameez...

Mr. Khan throwing her out of his house. Mr. Khan threatening her life. Mr. Khan blaming her for his mother's condition. Mr. Khan slapping her... she cringed... Mr. Khan questioning her upbringing...

Mr. Khan... "Khuda ka shukar ki aapke abuu aaj zinda nahin hain, une aap par zaroor sharam aati agar une yeh din dekne par the!"

Zoya jerked awake, her face moist with tears. When she realized where she was, and why, a new rush of tears trickled down her face.

Mr. Khan mujhe kabhi nahi samaj paenge. Aur mein une khabi nahi samaj paongi. Yehi sab ke liye acha hoga, she tried to convince herself.

Dejected and numb, she laid back down. Slowly her sobs lessened, as she softly cried herself to sleep.

* * * * * * *

Dilshad was in no mood to talk to anyone, but she figured it might be someone important. And when she heard the voice at the other end of the line, she knew she made the right choice.

"Phoopi..."

"Zoya! Beta, tum kahan ho! Aur aise kyun chali gayi!" probbed Dilshad, relieved to hear her voice.

Asad opened his room door the slightest bit. Hearing her name, despite his anger, still made his heart skip beat. Maybe I can still... No Asad, screamed his brain. She's trouble. She's a musibaat. And if she comes back she'll cause problems. Even yesterday, she went to Ayaan's sagai and ended up causing the biggest problem we've ever had to face with that family. And yet, his heart kept him frozen at the door, listening to his Ammi's conversation, hoping he could catch a glimpse or a clue as to where she'd gone.

"Phoopi," Zoya repeated on the other end, "I'm sorry Phoopi, I'm so sorry. Par mein aapke ghar mein aur nahi resakhti. Mera visa khatam ho chuka. Aur mein Mr. Khan ko jooth bol ne ko force nahin kar sakhti. Please, Phoopi. Aap samaj ne koshish kije. Mujhe aapse door nahin jaana, lekin mein kisi aur ki zindagi... barbaad nahi karsakti," explained Zoya, whispering those last few words. She had tried to maintain her composure, but hearing her Phoopi's- No. Her Ammi's voice, she felt like she was ripping her heart out, knowing that she won't be seeing her. Maybe forever.

"Shh, Zoya, sambhalo apne aap ko. Yeh tum kaisi baatein kar rahe ho. Kiski zindagi barbaad hogi? Kisi ki bi nahin. Hum mein se kisi ko bhi nahi cheiye ki tum jao. To tum kyun gai?" Dilshad was utterly confused. She knew Zoya would be hurt by Asad's cold words, but she didn't understand why Zoya thought she would be ruining his life.

"Phoopi, Mr. Khan sagaai ko ek paak rasam mante hain. Aur mein bhi manti hoon. Isi liye mujhe une aise karne se rokna para. Phoopi, mein mehman thi. Mujhe ek na ek din to jaana tha na... Aur jab mein mehman hi hoon, to Mr. Khan mere liye itna bada kadam kyun utainge? Lekin mujhe jaane se pehle, aapse ek akhri baar baat karne ki icha thi... " Zoya couldn't hold her tears back. She had finally found someone who made her feel like she had an ammi. Her aapi was always there, but she was just that, her aapi. Not her ammi. And now she had to leave her. She didn't want to. But just the thought of Mr. Khan sent a stabbing pain to her heart. How could she live in the same house with him, just across the hall?

"Zoya.. tum kyun gayi, mujhe aab tak samaj mein nahi aa raha hai. Tum his parivar ka ek hisa ban chuki ho. Aur sagaai wali idea Asad ki hi thi. To phir tume aise kyun lag raha hai ki woh tum par aisa inzaam lagaiga, ki tumne ek paak rasam ka mazak banaya?" She was hiding something... why was she using the fake engagement as an excuse?, thought Dilshad.

At the mention of his name, Asad was even more curious, and dejected. She left... because of me? Meri wajeh se? Sagaai... Oh. I see. Lagta hai Ms. Farooqui came to her senses. But... I didn't want her to leave... I didn't want to... or did I? Did I want to do the sagaai? NO! She's not right for me! Stop it, Asad. She's irresponsible, childish and immature. It's for the best. But as he said these words, he felt an ever so slight pang of guilt. Big enough to be noticed, but too small to instill a change in his opinion.

Zoya, Phoopi is not gonna stop, she told herself. You have to avoid giving her a chance to change your mind. You can't stay. Mr. Bhat- Bhatwa- Whatever, already knows it's a false engagement. But Phoopi can't know that. She'll get Mr. Khan involved, aur woh mein har kis nahi chati, she thought to herself.

"Phoopi, mujhe jaana hai. Mein aapko aur Tamatar ko bohut miss karoongi. I promise Phoopi mein touch mein rahoon gi. I'll be in touch I promise. I love you, Phoopi. Allah Hafiz..." And with that she hung up the phone, never ending streams flowing from her eyes as she let go of her... ammi.

"Zoya! Hello? Zoya! Ya Allah!" cried Dilshad. She fell into the living room sofa, the receiver on her chest. Najma came, as she heard her ammi's cry.

"Ammi? Kya hua? Aap phone par chila kyun rahi thi? Kiska phone tha?" asked a worried  Najma.

"Zoya... Zoya ka phone tha... woh... vakei chaligay... woh... sagaai... Asad.. patani kya khe rahi thi. Lekin mein jaan ti hoon. Mein use achi tara se jaanti hoon. Woh humse kuch chupa rahi hai. Par aisa kya ho sakta hai... jo use humse itni door bhej raha hai..." Dilshad closed her eyes, letting the tears that had welled up in her eyes escape. Wapas aao Zoya.. tum is ghar ki khushi ho, is ghar ki roshni ho.. wapas aa jao..

Najme sunk on the sofa, next to her ammi. Zoya... ab mein kise baatein karoongi? College mein mera kaun khayal rakhega?, thought Najma to herself, heartbroken.

Asad shut his room door. Had he done this? If she left because of him, was he the cause of his mother and sister's current unhappiness? Nahi. Zoya chailgay. Khudi chaligay. You didn't kick her out. In fact its completely her fault. Again she left with no notice, no goodbye... not even for me. And not once did she think about the toll it would take on Ammi. As Asad's thoughts ran wild once again, he felt his fists clenching, his breathing getting ragged and his heart beating a million miles a minute. He could lie to himself through his mind, but to anyone with eyes and and a heart, his body language would give him away in a split second. He missed her. He was not happy she had left. But his ego would never let him admit this to himself, let alone to those around him, especially to her.

Asad blinked. Letters... Ammi said she had left them letters. But I don't see anything here... He scanned his room and then his closet. He thought of checking in the living room, but decided against it, since Ammi was there. And if she did leave something it wouldn't be in the living room. So, she didn't leave me anything? Did I mean that little to her? Ugh. Why do I care? She was a guest. Nothing more. But once again his fists and breathing gave him away as he thought of that word: guest.

* * * * * * *

Dilshad and Najma sat there on the sofa, Najma leaning on her Ammi, both of them crying softly.

"Ammi, hum Zoya ke bina kya karenge? Unki wajeh se is ghar mein hassi thi, khushi thi... woh kyun gay..." let out Najma, between soft sobs.

"Najma, hum Zoya ko wapas nahi la sakhte, lekin use baatein karsakhte hain. Usne kaha ki woh touch mein rehe gi. Aur mein Zoya ko jaanti hoon. Woh apna vada kabhi nahi todegi. Tum fikar mat karo. Hum use bohut jald baat karenge. Hmm?" Dilshad knew that more than Najma, she was trying to console herself. This girl had come to their house like a tornado. Disrupting her son's perfect life, and painting her and her daughter's grey and color less lives. She turned the quiet meals into happy affairs. She filled the enormous villa with laughter and her silly shayaris. She had turned this dull, quiet and colorless house into a home. Home.

* * * * * * *

Zoya kept the phone on her heart, as tears dripped from her chin. Phoopi, I'm sorry. Lekin mein Mr. Khan ke saath us ghar mein nahin reh sakthi. Ab to bilkul bi nahi. She wiped her tears, and put her phone away in her pocket. Zoya reached into her leather backpack, and pulled out her most prized possession. As the music box's sweet lullaby played, she closed her eyes. Flashes of Mr. Khan and her were before her eyes, and she jerked them open. Was I thinking about him... instead of my Abbu? No, Zoya. Stop it. He hates- She chocked a little. Don't waste your time or your thoughts on him.

She wiped her tears, and carefully put the music box away.

Zoya waited patiently at the lobby of the Taj, for Mr. Bhatawdekhar to come. She had called him last night after checking in, telling him where to find her so he could escort her to the airport.

She hadn't slept well last night, so she thought she'd give her eyes a rest while she waited for him.

"ZOYA!"

Ok guys.. I know this wasn't as good as the others oness but I had ideas flowing and just wanted to put them down in writing... the next chapter will be about Zoya with Mr. Whatever and the much awaited convo's between Asad and Dilshad and Asad and Ayaan :)
