Leena Jumani, who shot to fame with the daily soap Bandini as Khemi and was recently seen in 'Punarvivah', 'Amita Ka Amit' was in Surat on a whirlwind promotional tour when we caught up with the petite actress. The hazel eyed Leena who's currently playing the lead in 'Piya Ka Ghar Pyaara Lage' made her acting debut at 16 with a Gujarati film and has never had to look back since.
She recently made her big screen splash in Bollywood as Ajay Devgn's sister in Himmatwalaand earned brownie points. Leena admits, "I was raw and immature when I started my career as an actress and I had never done any course in acting. But I feel I'm blessed because it was a dream come true working with such great actors and I totally loved the experience."
Leena who's dabbled in fashion designing, commodity and online business and belongs to aapnu Amdavad confesses that she had problems while delivering dialogues in Gujarati! "Initially I had a lot of problems expressing myself in Gujarati and would end up making some hilarious grammatical mistake or the other (laughs). I still remember that one word 'dildu' in Gujariti which means heart, for which I had to take several retakes because I couldn't pronounce the word properly. I've done my fair share of Gollywood films and shows in Gujarati and now I'm comfortable with the language."
This pretty actress has seen Surat change over the past few years and is surprised at the rate this city of diamonds has grown. She says, "I've been to Surat many times especially when I started working as an actor. I did many catalogue shoots here and would visit Surat as often as twice or thrice a week. Surat has really progressed."
Though her debut Bollywood film Himmatwala didn't rock wonders at the box office as she'd expected, it hasn't dampened her spirit. She says, "Jitni umeed the utna nahi ho paya, but I've got a lot of good response for my role in Himmatwala. Yes, I was upset because the film didn't do well commercially, but that was for a short span. I've got offers after the film, for more Bollywood movies and I'm presently working in one film with Rajeev Khandelwal as the main lead."
