MUMBAI: In a startling revelation, Parvez Iqbal Tak, the main suspect in the mysterious missing case of film actress Laila Khan, admitted that she, her family and a friend were killed in February 2011 in Maharashtra, said sources in the Jammu and Kashmir police.
While the state anti-terrorism squad had been probing a missing case (of Laila and her family), the Mumbai crime branch had on Tuesday registered a kidnapping case against Tak, who is currently in the custody of J&K police in connection with another case.
"During the interrogation Tak has admitted that Laila, her mother, sister and a friend were killed in Maharashtra in February last year," said Gareeb Das, DIG (Doda-Ramban range ) of J&K police. When asked how was she killed, Das said, "Tak told us that gun shots were used in the killing. We have not found the bodies yet so we have to first get the bodies before reaching to any conclusion," he added. Das said it was not appropriate to disclose information as it could hamper the probe.
There is possibility that the Mumbai crime branch will now book Tak for murder.
According to Das several people were involved in the mass murder. "We are verifying several things and doing our probe," he said.
Earlier there were reports that Laila was in Dubai but there were no entries at the airport in her name. Laila, whose original name is Reshma Patel, was last seen in a movie Wafa with Rajesh Khanna.
However, her mysterious disappearance from Mumbai in February 2011 and subsequent probes found she had questionable connections. The last call records of her mobile phone that the police have been able to obtain show her location as Nashik. Laila had a farm house at Igatpuri.
An anti-terror squad (ATS) had visited her Igatpuri farm house to gather information and check on the farm house that caught fire sometime ago. "We have found out that she used her mobile phone in Nashik for the last time in February last year. Since then, the phone is switched off," said an officer.
Sources said Laila had become close to suspected Lashkar militant Tak through a Bangladesh-based terrorist Munir Khan, whom she allegedly married. Laila's role in Delhi high court blasts came into picture after reports suggested that a Mitsubishi Outlander which was in her mother's name, Saleena Patel, was used for ferrying the explosives.
