Thank you for bearing with me😊 (i'll turn this OS into SS if you would like to endure more😆)
Ahem went downstairs in a rush of confusion and anger. He was just
not at peace. He was feeling so perplexed, and had no idea why he
felt like that. Something deep inside was torturing and troubling
him. It felt as if he was walking on a sword. He had been so sure
of himself, about his life, his profession, his family, his
ambitions in life, infact he was sure of almost everything in his
life. He had always thought that he had everything under his
control but today it was as though things were slipping away from
his hands like a silken cloth.
He remembered very well that day when he had found a gift lying
on the table of his room, he had felt so joyous, so much that he
couldn't quite control his emotions. He was grinning to himself
thinking of his sweet and innocent wife and her love for him. He
felt so peaceful and complete thinking of her. And when he opened
the gift, he was taken aback. How could she be so open to him, but
he liked and admired her surprise gift. It was as if she had
infused all of her feelings in one toy and presented it to him.
But the moment he was made to realize that it was not for him, his
dreams shattered like a million pieces of broken glass lying on
the floor. And today, he felt even worse. It was as if someone had
slapped him tight and made him mingle with the dust. How could
someone be so humble, so selfless, so forgiving? He was feeling so
upset that he was so lost in winning that insignificant
competition that he just could not accept his sudden defeat. He
had become so inhumane in his thoughts and actions over the years
in his ambitions that he could not perceive what she had tried to
do on the terrace few minutes back. Rather than supporting and
defending her, he got annoyed and came down. Was he upset at her
for letting him down in front of his mom or was he disappointed
with himself for not being able to see her beautiful soul. She had
always been like this before, only he was blind, not just blind
but heartless to the core.
He was lost in his own world of thoughts when suddenly he heard a
commotion outside his room. He startled as if someone had woken
him up from a deep sleep. It had never happened before. He had
never been thinking of past in his entire life. But what was
happening now? He seemed to be behaving so weirdly these days.He
stepped outside the room only to find out a big chaos in the
living room.
Her mom was looking very agitated, saying that Gopi had gone
against her wishes for the first time and it had really hurt her
to see her Gopi vau changing nowadays. She told Gopi not to show
her face to her till she turned back normal. Gopi, on the other
hand, was trying to pacify her. And the rest of the family were
all standing there motionless, watching silently and helplessly.
He had no clue as to what was going on, what the ruckus was about.
Gopi almost on the verge of tears, was saying to her mom that it
was only her fault and noone else's to bring the pigeon down with
her as she could not see the pigeon being hurt and thought to
apply some haldi paste on it's wounds so that it becomes fine once
again, free to fly in the air. And had no idea that the pigeon
would mess up the place like that.
She was begging mom for forgiveness that she would never go
against her wishes in future and abide by all the rules and
decorum set by her. But her mom wasn't listening at all as if she
had put a deaf ear towards Gopi. He had a feeling that his mom
wasn't looking her normal self these days and something was
troubling her, but she was venting all of it out on his gopi (did
he actually say "his"). It wasn't fair as his mom had always been
right, though strict from outside, she was soft like a cotton from
inside and he could not see her in this condition. She could not
become so incompassionate. Neither he could see Gopi being treated
like this by anyone, be it her mom as well. He didn't know what to
do? What should he say? How should he react right now?
Then suddenly he came up with an idea. He had never done this
before but it was very important as it seemed to be the only way
out now. He could not see two very important persons in his life
losing themselves like this. He wanted them to retain their nature
and be what they have been all their lives. His mom had been his
inspiration and role model but unknowingly his wife has become his
dream, his fantasy, his strength, his journey, his destination and
countless other things. And he had slowly let her become all of
that, and an integral part of his life and now he can't even
think of a life without her.
He sprung into action and started walking up towards his family.
His heart was racing very fast and his mind was going numb. This
was the first time he was going to do this to his mom and wife. He
had to take the lead now, it was as if it was now or never. His
mom didn't react at all seeing him standing there, as if all her
thoughts had stopped for a moment and Gopi didn't even look at
him, just kept her head down, tear about to sneak from the corner
of an eye.
He called out "Mom! Would you please calm down a bit? It's just a
pigeon, no big deal...you are so mature, so why are you
behaving like this? please dont get so upset, i cant see you angry
and unhappy!!!!!! saying this he smiled and hugged her mom and
then turning his head towards Gopi he winked and said, "Gopi,
please would you bring green tea for me. I badly need one."
Thank you,
Shruti.
