Deejagey It is not about whether Sandhya wins or not- we all know that by 2014 she will win. It is how the story is told.
As Walquest has said it is too backward for 2012. She is shown as so backward and parochial, surely she too watches TV! although have not seen one in their house!
The thing is that how can they show Bhabo like character in this day and age. My view is that they could have followed the same story line- that is- Bhabo being upset at being cheated without such violent and abusive content.
I can see a point in her being concerned that Sandhya may not be suitable for her uneducated son who may suffer from an inferiority complex down the line or perhaps Sandhya may not accept him or look down upon him (which to be fair she has- until she found out he was a halwai, she was attracted to him- but after that it was down hill). So they could have followed that story line in a dignified way. Even the current 15 day test could have been fun.
But no, it has to be shown in the most crass way. If she fails,son throw her out. End the marriage because I say so. Because I conceived you- you are mine till eternity. YOU OWE ME and I will make you feel guilty for the rest of your living days. I have great principles but only when they apply to other people. My way or highway. Sooraj, you are my sacrificial cow in the alter of motherhood!
I have great power-can you not see I have reduced my husband- an intelligent, gentle man (who I think Sooraj takes after) into a quivering mass of hypochondria. Ha Ha Ha.
I have shown power by getting Vikram throw Meena out, Slap her, beat her and humiliate the girl's parents.
I have screamed and shouted at the press and the public but hey I am the Sati Savitri, great model wife (although I do not even care to show minimum respect to my husband even in front of the children), model mother (even though my daughter Chavi is a lazy, slimy, lying, devious low life and my son Mohit is a deceiving, manipulative loser with no hope at all and Vikram ka to pucho hi nahi) honest (although I encourage stealing slippers in a temple!!) and great protector of family values "Ghar ki izzat" ( I fight with my neighbors, demean them, quarrel with co passengers, believe marriage is for producing babies).
All of the above is shown as virtuous conduct. BUT, complaining to the police about such a person is shown as a heinous crime and a blot on the "ghar ki izzat".
One decent educated woman comes into the family and she becomes the symbol of all all things that are wrong in this. She should be crushed and destroyed!
The only virtues of a woman are cook, clean, work as a slave during the day and please your husband at night after pressing your sasu's feet. That should be the aim of all good Indian women!!
The icing on the cake is she accuses Sandhya of not coming to her and telling her the truth. How can she when every time she opens her mouth the dialogue is "Binidi-shut up-speak when you are spoken to".
The slaves in 18th century had better dignity !!
Its been 4 months and the marriage is not even close to consummation. Weird or what!
Come on writers buck up and pull your good thinking woollie hats on and come up with cracking situations and contents - not this rubbish.
And please do not say that the Indian public likes to watch this Bhabo show- the TRPS are for the Sandhya /Sooraj story. Or perhaps I am bonkers!
