KIDS!!! Where will our Hindi films be, without kids. The cocky kids, the oversmart kids and some downright sweet and believable. Hindi films thrived on family melodramas in 50s,60s and 70s. Every second film released was either a family drama or a social drama and had atleast one prime child character..Eg..Khandaan, Do raaste, Saural, Main chup rahungi, Dhool ka ohool, jagruti etc etc. But what is fascinating about all this is that we have had some very beautiful songs for kids from these movies. Songs either sung by these child actors or songs, sung for these child actors. There are prayers..like tumhi ho mata, birthday songs like hum bhi agar bachche hote naam hamara hota, etc. Some ruthna manana songs like Dadiamma dadi amma man jao., gori jara has de tu etc.some stories told in a song, like chal mere ghode tik tik tik!!!

But, I am for this post, categorizing these songs into 3 main sections.

A .Fun filled songs…full of non-sense stuff, rhythm and rhyming words, but absolute delight for the kids. These songs used to be full of animals, kiddish imagination, chocolates…etc. My favorite 5 of this section will be:

1-Chakke mein chakka, chakke pe gaadi…..Shammi Kapoor and a dozen kids crammed in a jeep, singing this song in an amusement park.

2-Re mama re mama re..again Shammi Kapoor, following his ruthi hui beti in a car , singing this song, which remains the most popular kiddie song to date.

3-Chun chun karti aayi chidiya…greatest achievement in 1950s and 60s seems to be getting a nice dulhaniya for the son!!..this song is to a kid of about 8-9 yrs old..seedha Dehli jaaunga..teri dulhaniya layunga..again Rafi Sahab has done a marvelous job.

4-Railgaadi…Ashok Kumar crooning this all time hit to the lyrics of Harindranath Chattopadhyay…brother of Sarojini Naidu.

5-Naani teri morni ko mor le gaye…made immortal by 4 year old Rano Mukherjee, daughter of Hemantda.

B. Inspirational or philosophic songs. These were the ones that teachers or mothers used to sing to the kids for either inspiring them or making them socially aware. My favorite 5 in this category will be:

1-.Hum laye hain toofan se kishti nikal ke…Jagriti

2-Insaaf ki dagar pe bachchon dikhao chalake…Ganga Jamuna

3-Aao bachcho tumhein dukhayen jhaanki Hindustan ki…again Jagriti

4-Mithi mithi baton se bachna jara, duniya ke logon mein..

5-Tu Hindu banega na Musalman banega…dhool ka phool

C. The one and only way known to Hindi Film Moms to put their kids to sleep. Lorie!!! In this category I have 3 favorites, which can be termed exceptional. You are welcome to add more.

1-Nanhi kali sone chali…the lyrics are so indulgent..ghungar ka dana koi shor macha jaye….over protectiveness at its best.

2-Ari aaa ja, neendiya tu le chal….Mehmood –KK..tugging-at-your-heartstrings.

3-Dheere se aaja re ankhiyan mein…Lorie form was made popular by this immortal one from C. Ramchandra's Albela..with Latadi at her best.

Which ones are your favourites and why?😊

I really liked Hum Ko Mann Ki Shakti Dena from Guddi, nice song..

there were a couple of songs in Boot Polish I think, they were very good..

Dosti (i guess it qualifies as teens and not kids) had good songs..

My 4 yr old son loves the second son because it's little easier for him to sing. He sings that song all the time. Although, I love to sing the first song to him.

Yes, hum honge kamyaab is very popular in schools in India too. When my kid had to sing in a concert...he opted for aye watan, aye watan, humko teri kasam😕😕.He was onlt 6 and a half then...he sang the whole song very well and won.....😳
