Those who have watched this classic sitcom should have guessed why I'm using Monica and Richard as a reference in the Gulaal forum. Those who haven't watched it, what are you doing? It's one of the best shows if not the best show ever.😛

There have been quite a few frowns about a woman falling in love with a guy whom she has seen as a child. In general terms, it does make you feel slightly uncomfortable but as I always say that every situation should be judged on its own merit. There's no point of seeing the entire world through a rose-tinted colour glass when there are so many other colours in life.

The 2 characters in FRIENDS: Monica and Richard, though they didn't end up together nonetheless they had a very serious relationship. However, their age gap was much bigger than GKs and Richard was actually the friend of Monica's father so he was double her age. He had seen her as a child and most probably was around at the time of her birth. She urinated in his pool 🤣 20 years or however many later, they end up falling in love with each other and sleeping together . I don't think I'm wrong in saying that not many created a fuss over that...possibly because it's a sitcom or possibly because the west is more open-minded. So the girl who he once saw as his best friend's daughter, the girl who he saw at different stages of her life... almost ended up being his wife!!

Gulaal hadn't even seen Kesar for 10 whole years while Richard saw Monica growing up at least.
Is it really so eww if Gulaal does fall in love Kesar? I know most of us are dying to see them together anyway but I just wanted to make a post for those who are uncomfortable with the whole issue of falling in love with someone you had seen as a child. It's not a common thing but human emotions are so complex and they can change over time. Kesar is a grown up MAN now, he was openly flirting with Gulaal in Saturdays episode (Is flirting the correct word?), she is aware that he is no longer a kid hence the awkwardness portrayed by her whenever he is close to her.

Plus the way GK are...how can you not want them together?😳

Well said

Who hasnt seen Friends lol, if yiou havent where have you been living lol
I dont see no eww factor in it, because as you say human emotions are complex and esp for us who have seen Kes-Gul so far from the start to their journey now - how can it be eww factor, when things have always been not against them but for them coming together - and that bond you cant define even to each other they were always Kesar-Gulaal not given a proper relation name just as bhabhi/devar was it - that was never emphasised on even though they were (you get what i mean lol), the only awkward thing is that she has SEEN him as a child but not seen his growing up, thats about it and also in Gulaal's case she has a block where all she knows and does is walk on Vasant's given path, keep the family binded etc
Well like you say i wouldnt call it flirting but something along that line, teasing and so on i guess
For Gulaal to ever feel more, my answer would be seeing the kind of woman she is and so on, and what she lives by and so, you cant pressure her into feeling more - am not saying its not possible - but its something Gulaal herself will find it impossible to even see beyond that (if you get what i mean)

Good point Reemz.
Actually I think Richard didn't really see Monica grow up but did see her as a little girl on some occasions all those years ago which makes him falling in love with the woman she became so much more plausible...
Same with Gulaal and Kesar. Gulaal left a child and got reacquainted with a young man. She knew Kesar the child but doesn't know Kesar the man, she had no contact whatsoever with him for 10 long years. In some way it makes separating the child from the man easier and so if in getting to know him again she ends up falling in love that wouldn't be so awkward...
That's said, I do understand her reluctance to see him as a man and a potential lover. She did see Kesar as a child and acted as a surrogate mother to him at some point so it is understandable that she would have a hard time or be afraid to accept the fact that she can have some romantic feelings towards him now ... I just wish she would have realised that putting him in an other woman's arms against his will isn't the solution to their situation though. I must admit that her current attitude is quite grating on my nerves but oh well let's see how it will play out ...

LOL I agree! You haven't watched anything if you haven't seen FRIENDS!😉

I don't see the eww factor at all because as you said, if you have seen the Gul-Kes bond then you will appreciate how their relationship has evolved. They were always soulmates even when there was nothing romantic between them.

Gulaal is placed herself in a box, she doesn't even really understand what makes her truly happy. She isn't even aware of her own desires :\ Obviously something special has to happen for her to think outside the box.

Maybe he saw at different stages!? Once in a while at a house party or something. Not that it was dwelled upon.

I totally understand her reluctance too. Wouldn't we all react in a similar fashion? For a woman like Gulaal it's even worse because she has really suppressed her desires for the sake of fulfilling Vasant's dreams. I'm glad Kesar voiced our opinions in the kitchen scene! She is playing around with 3 different lives who will all end up being miserable because of that one promise she made to Talli.
