I still haven't seen NOKJ but it's nice to hear that Rani is getting good reviews!
I hope she sticks around a while longer, and why shouldn't she? At one point she was one of the best actresses we had around. Bollywood actresses honestly needs to start breaking that mold - I would love to see Rani come back with some powerful roles and from what I've read the past few months she has some good stuff lined up :)

Rani NEVER had it easy. The media ALWAYS just looked for a chance to write her off,be it before Saathiya OR presently(before NOKJ)...
There wasn't even a SINGLE site who DID NOT write her off only because of her flops.
Did that happen with Kareena?
This may sound very OTT or cheesy but I really DO believe that no one has seen worse than what Rani & her fans have in the past few years.😊

But the same media praised her to the skies too, did it not? So if the media is to be blamed (for her downfall, or whatever), then the same media should be credited in making her career. I'd argue that Rani, despite of being reasonably good actress, had the advantage of being surrounded by powerful people and having the media/industry on her side. It's the media's job to exaggerate things, so I wouldn't say I'm really surprised with it. When she gave a few decent to above average performances, the media often elevated her talent/capability and praised her performances to the skies, while now, when she hasn't done anything worthwhile for a while, she is being written off.

As for Ash - like said, she was never considered a 'living legend' (in the acting department) and she was never really consistent in giving hits, so frankly, her flop status never affected her as much as Rani's. On another note (since you brought Ash into the discussion) - did she not have a far worse time than Rani immediately after the Salman-Vivek thing? If what Ash said is true and she indeed got abused, then can you imagine how hard must it have been for her to endure such attacks days after days (btw, I just brought them to make a point; not trying to stir anything up)? At least Rani isn't getting attacked on a personal level (baring the one constant rumor with her alleged affair with a certain other 😆).

gr8 points pheonix.....👏

and i agree...when rani was at her peak with black, yuva, saathiya etc...even a mediocre Bunty aur babli got her acclaim and a hit status...she has had her share of media glorification....with her bagging awards for black and hum tum and getting films from top banners at tht time...the media just blew it way out of proportion to declare her as the best thing since sliced bread and placing her with the likes of madhuri, meena kumari and other legends..(😕)....if its the media bringing her down today, it was them who gave her all the unnecessary praise too...

It is not like Saathiya and Yuva were big commercial hits or anything. Rani gave acclaimed performances at this time and she was competing with Preity as well. But, she was not consistent and her reign ended with KANK. It has taken her a very long time to come back into the spotlight. I think at least her career is back on track, so it is not a total loss for her fans! 😊
And thanks Maddy, everyone for making this topic active! I really thought it was going to be buried!

whatever guys, Rani - pretty had many hits in this decade. Katrina and Kareena just got it at the end of the decade. The good thing is, though Rani gave flops, she was praised for her performances. She was never lost the main touch of acting.

Ash had more flops in this decade with very less hits, compared to rani- priety but she is bachchan so media don't target her. She gives decent perfomances and then horrible acts but no one write articles on her. Look at abhishek, Salman, DID MEDIA EVER WRITE NONSENSE OVER THEM? any day?

Nope, but Hrithik , SRK too went on harsh criticism and media pounding over them calling they are finished. Kareena too. But they quickly came back, I am sure Rani too.

I don't buy that the media doesn't criticize Aish and Abhi just because they are the Bachans. Wasn't Abhi ripped apart by critics and the media for his role in Ravaan? Same with Aish too...they criticize her for her performances, weight, flops, and even for her not having a baby.

I have read a lot of articles and blogs that speak about the Bachchans and it cracked me up🤣

😕 If you take a look at the hits Rani, Aish, Preity had in the last decade, it is actually pretty much equal, only five in total! I am not talking about semi-hits or average movies, but actual hits according to the box office from India. Preity Zinta actually had five real hits in the last decade, same for Aish and Preity.
Rani - Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham, Hum Tum, Veer Zaara, Bunty Aur Babli, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
Preity - Koi Mil Gaya, Kal No Nal Ho, Veer Zaara, Salaam Namaste, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
Aish - Mohabbatein, Devdas, Dhoom 2, Guru, Jodhaa Akbar
Yeah, I know Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham and Mohabbatein were guest appearances/cameos for Aish/Rani, but a hit is a hit, right?! LOL. 😆
All three are on the same level commercially, no one beats the other. In terms of acting, that is another debate. But, commercially, I think I have laid out the logical facts here.

And movies like Lakshya, Josh, Kya Kehna, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Khakee, Bride and Prejudice, Saathiya, Mangal Pandey, Black, Sarkar Raj, etc. were mostly average/semi-hit/coverage earners, but not "full-blown hits." Just in reference to my last post. 😊
