Chapter 74: Indu and Jaan
"Meet Indu." Dev was in scrubs and holding the tiny bundle in his arms. Geet peeked over his arms at the little angel, her eyes filling with tears.
"You want to hold her?" he asked and passed the baby on when Geet nodded and extended her arms.
"And here…" he turned towards the bed, but Maan was already standing there looking at the other little bundle fidgeting right next to Tara.
"… is Jaan." He finished and Maan looked up in suprise.
"Jaan? As in Jaan that rhymes with Maan and Viraan?" They heard Vicky behind them and turned around to watch him grin like it was his wife who just gave birth. He rushed over now, first stopping by Geet's side to look at Indu and then over to the bed to look at his rhyming name-sake.
But Maan was already lifting the baby up and now held him away from Vicky.
Tara gave a smile at their antics, but Dev could see the fatigue on her face and he came over to her side now.
He brushed her hair back and took a cold towel to press against her forehead where her hair was sticking in perspiration.
"Do I look a fright?" she asked then, smiling up at him.
He sat her up straighter and brought her closer to him to now apply another wet towel to the back of her neck.
"You are probably the only woman in the world who would be happy to hear that you look less than perfect." He felt her smile against his chest.
"I am sorry to disappoint you sweetheart, but you have never looked lovelier." He whispered and she pulled her face away from his chest to look at him with all the love in the world shining in her eyes.
"We made two angels, Dev." Her eyes filled with moisture and he kissed her forehead as he felt his throat close up with emotion.
He looked at Geet holding Indu and Maan holding Jaan and looked back at Tara. "I don't know, between having uncles likes Maan and Vicky, I think Jaan is going to be a devil more than an angel…"
"Hey hey, what a stereotype. Indu could just as much be the devil." She took mock offense at her poor girl already being cast into gender stereotypes.
"Well, that would be a real shame, don't you think?" He asked.
"Why?"
"Well, if she looks anything like her mother, she is going to have everyone eating out of her hands anyways. She will be an unstoppable terror if she turns out to be a devil too…"
She laughed and he joined in for a moment until they the heard the door open again and saw Dadi come in with Nayana and Nirosha.
And a short while later, other visitors started coming too, one of the first ones being the ever-interesting pair of Shiv-Gauri…
And here's how that all played out…
From Maan and Geet:
Maan: So, you think the vixen got to them?
Geet: Among other things. But on a positive note, she has left behind the virgin status.
Maan: How can you be sure?
Geet: Oh believe me, a woman knows these things.
Maan: But how?
Geet: See the way they are trying to avoid looking at each other. How she doesn't want to be near him, but her body does. And how his eyes are on her at all times. And he is always around her, almost in a protective stance?
Maan: No, I don't see that.
Geet: (after looking up at Maan) well, you are not going to see all that if you just stare at me.
Maan: You know, Indu looks a bit like you.
Geet: (now distracted and smiling) You really think so?
Maan: No, but doesn't Jaan look like me?
Viraan: How can you even say that? He totally looks like me!
And then they said some other things, but I lost interest, because they stopped talking about Shiv and Gauri. Who else is talking? Oh, there… I hear another conversation of interest… Man, I am such an eavesdropper!
From Vicky, Nayana, and Nirosha:
Nirosha: What do you think? Is there enough sexual angst there?
Vicky: Enough to drown me.
Nayana: I don't know… this is not just sexual angst. Something else is going on.
Nirosha: You mean, they haven't done it yet?
Vicky: Oh, they've done it.
Nayana: And liked it.
Vicky: And wants to do it again.
Nirosha: But…
Vicky: But… they're fighting… what else is new?
Nayana: No, something is different.
Vicky: What?
Nayana: She knows she is in love with him. And he knows he is in love with her.
Nirosha: I sense another But coming up...
Vicky: But…?
Nayana: They don't know how the other one feels.
Nirosha: Well, that's just stupid. Why can't they just talk to each other?
Vicky: Yea, why not?
Nayana: That's not their thing. At least not yet…
Nirosha: I don't understand.
Nayana (with a smile, now turning to look at Nirosha): That's bullshit. Like you share all that you feel with Aarya. All you do is make him suffer.
Nirosha: Oh please! No one has made anyone suffer like you did to Viraan.
Vicky: Thanks Ni. I know I can always count on you for support.
Nayana: You have to work to earn anything worthwhile.
Vicky: You beat me up Anya!
Nayana: Like I said…
Well, we all know where that is going to go, so let's move on to the next pair…
From Dev and Tara:
Dev: I think something's happened between them, don't you think?
Tara: Yes, definitely. I think she's pregnant Dev.
Whoa… man, I know she just gave birth and all, but how could she possibly know that??
Dev: Man, for a pair who have claimed to hate each other all their life, all it took was six months?
Tara: I am surprised that it took that long…
Well, well, well….

ok I am generally not a poem person, but I was searching for something and came across this one. When I read it, it immediately reminded me of Thalia, so here goes.
Phenomenal WomanPretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.Maya Angelou
