Kajol isn't active anymore and same goes for Rani the two queens of acting.

They call Ash plastic and she is indeed more famous for her good looks.

Kareena over reacts and is doing useless roles.

Priyanka is gradually improving.

Katrina, Lara, Bipasha, Deepika and Sonam are nowhere close.

So this leaves Konkona Sen Sharma and Vidya Balan...t he two mind boggling actors!

Konkona is married and might be doing less movies now and that just leave Bidya Balan.

Is she the best female actor that we have today ? Watch her in Parineeta, Paa, Bhool Bhulaiyya or Ishqiyaaa.

Don't go for the disaster dressing sense or looks. Acting only!

Just teasing, but as fan I just had to! Vidya is a great actress no doubt, but she's not fantastic when it comes to commercial cinema...IMO, PC, Kat, Sona, and Kareena are fantastic in romantic comedies...but I can't see Vidya doing a Kiara, Aisha, or Geet! Kajol is def the best...she rocks both genres! But I think with all actresses it's a hit or miss...they do well in some films and bad in others...I think Konkona is the best and Tabu is by far the better of all, but in terms of TODAY...actresses need to be able to pull off critical and commercial acclaim! Also, I didn't find Vidya real in KK and Heyy baby...i think that's not her genre!

She was ok in Kismat Konnection and indeed a disaster in Heyy Babby..

I blv the Heyy Babbyy roled just didnt suit her.

And ur first made me edit my post and then I continued reading, LOL.

Without a Doubt... She is the best!. If by commercial roles people mean the half baked, wafer thin, dancing around the roles that even an actress who doesn't speak hindi can pull off better than our top tiar of of commercial actresses then yes I don't care if she can fit into those or not. VB looks great in your average next door desi indian girl roles, she is way more natural, effortless, and spunky in them compared to any other actress. I personally can't imagine anyone else doing roles like Paa, so convincingly and that too opposite an actor like Amitji.. And loved the fact that despite not aping the conventions she is giving comepeition to mainstream actresses like Pri and Bebo.. loved how she took away best actress mainstream last year.

the prob is vidya's not versatile as far as roles are concerned....which is why she holds less appeal....she always does (and suits) this "mummy" or "aunty" type roles which alieanate her from the so called young and hip crowd...when she tried to a KK or a heyy babyy....she epic failed. She is a good actor...but if she keeps doing similar kind of roles, ppl will get bored of her. As it is, her screen age is like 35...when shes in her 20's and made her debut after priyanka and kareena!!! ppl...get tired of slightly mature luking female actors...sad but true fact...how would u explain actors like tabu, koko not getting as many films as deepika or sonam??

I don't doubt her versatality at all. And whats with the "mummy" "aunty" thing.. why do women who potray roles which look and act and speak more like an average indian girl are stereotyped like that?? If you look around in India even today more than half of the population looks like Vidya balan's onscreen persona.. rather than bebo, pri or anyone else.. Somehow i think Indians are losing their own identity.. they don't know how even their fellow indians look like in the race to ape the west.

Great topic!

She is def a good actress! Acting comes naturally to her in some roles! But is she the best? I don't think so! She bores me though! And like someone said She is not versatile and only good in Paa kind of roles! Can't see her in films like Golmaal, or JWM, or fashion or Kaminey, AA! She can't do glam roles! either! I thought she was okay in KK! But in Hey Babby she hammed so badly! I cringed seeing her acting in that film! Heard she was good in Ishqiya, but I have seen it! Paa haven't seen the whole film! From the promos and the little stuff I saw, she wasn't that impressive!

I think Koko is a better actress than Vidya! And tabu is overrated sometimes!

Vidya Balan I'd say is the second best to Konkona Sen Sharma. Koko is my favourite and can adapt herself to just about any role. She's plain brilliant! Vidya on the other hand sometimes lacks the charm (Hey baby, lage raho munna bhai) but is brilliant none the less.
