PART 2 ~HER~
She closed the door after her friends left. She had had a small get-together at her place and invited a few close friends from her building. It had been nice to spend quality time with friends, now that she was a bit free from the hectic schedule of shooting that she had had for the past 2 years. At that time, she had barely had time for a chat with a friend, leave alone a get-together. But now things had changed. A lot of things had changed.
'Like the way you miss him,' a voice inside her spoke.
She stood stunned for a moment. She was indeed missing him. A lot! A lot more than she used to. A lot more than she should.
"Stop thinking about him!" She scolded herself and headed to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee for herself.
It was pretty late (late enough for her now that she was used to sleeping early) but she was not sleepy at all so to prevent unwanted thoughts she decided to do some cleaning up while the coffee was brewing. She arranged the living room and cleaned up the coffee table. The coffee was ready and she carried it into the living room. She switched on her laptop and decided to watch a few videos of her previous show. The show that had given her a lot. Recognition, fame, some great friends and...love!
"There you go again! Can you just stop thinking about that aspect of your life?!" She sternly said to herself.
'Gosh! I am scolding myself! How pathetic could I get?!' She thought.
She sipped at her coffee and watched a few episodes of the show. She remembered the times she had spent with the crew members and co-stars on the sets, joking and enjoying the shoot. She had never had such great times before and even now, as she thought of those times, tears welled up in her eyes. She tried to blink them away but one fell out. She wiped it off with her hand and taking a deep breath, drank the last sips of her coffee before going to the kitchen to rinse the mug out.
She had just placed the mug on the rack and turned when her eyes caught something that was hanging out of a slightly-open drawer. She opened the drawer and saw that the something was indeed a small towel that she had stashed there a few months back to prevent a friend from seeing it. She had later forgotten where she had placed it and looked for it everywhere but could never find it. And now here it was! She removed it from the drawer and shook it slightly to remove the dust on it. The writing on it was as clear as it had been when he had written it. It said, 'You make the world's best butter chicken.'
She recalled the incident and it brought a sweet smile to her already beautiful face. She had invited a few friends from the sets over to her home and obviously, he had also been one of them. She had prepared an Indian cuisine and butter chicken had been one of the dishes. It was her fav and a dish she prepared the best. She remembered his reaction on seeing the butter chicken and laughed lightly. He had been so excited and wanted to taste it immediately though she had forced him to wait till dinner was fully served.
When she had served dinner, he had been the first to taste the butter chicken and the look on his face had been like that of a child given his dream candy to eat. He had looked at her and given her a thumbs-up then carried on eating like there was no tomorrow. Then later on when everyone had been leaving, he had been scribbling something on a towel with a permanent marker and when she had asked him what he was up to, he had just shook his head and told her to quit being so curious. So she had left him alone.
Later when everyone had left, she had walked into the kitchen to clean up and seen the towel placed on the counter top. She had picked it up and laughed when she had seen what he had written. She had quickly texted him, "Thanks for the compliment. I will always keep this towel with me."
He had replied immediately. "I had been waiting for your text. Butter chicken is my fav dish. And no one can prepare it like you do. Trust me."
She still had the towel and his text also. She hugged the towel close to her heart and her mind went into flashback once again.
She remembered the first time she had met him at a friend's party. Her friend had brought him over to introduce him. She recalled having marveled over what a beautiful smile he had. And those dimples! He could flash them at someone and get away with murder. She had not talked much to him but that night she found herself suffering from insomnia, owing to his smile. Everytime she had closed her eyes, his smiling face had flashed in front of her. She had forced herself to put him out of her mind because she knew she would probably never meet him again.
But destiny plays its part well...and she had ended up landing the same show as him, and as his co-star, no less.
They had been very surprised when they had first met on the sets and gotten to know they would be working together. She could not ignore the way her heart had lifted when she had seen him again and she recalled having butterflies in her stomach everytime he smiled at her.
She was quite reserved by nature but his friendly nature was pretty infective and she had found herself spending more time with him as time went by. They became pretty close in a very short span of time. He used to flirt openly with her and she used to enjoy it though she hardly used to flirt back. But the rare times that she did reciprocate with the flirting, she used to revel in his surprised reactions.
They were a couple in the show so they had most of their scenes together. She used to enjoy the scenes where their characters had small but cute fights and he, on the other hand, enjoyed the romantic scenes and had mentioned that to her very often, making her blush.
As time went by, her feelings for him grew stronger than friendship. Their comfort level with each other had always been great but things became even better. She found herself agreeing to do every scene that they were told to do, however intimate, without hesitation. He was very gentle whenever he had to handle her and she loved being in his arms as much as her character loved being in his character's arms. He always used to ask her if she was okay with the scene and the closeness and tried to make her feel as comfortable as he could.
He was a great friend to everyone but when he was with her, he was a totally different person and many a times, people had commented on that. She had shrugged it off but found herself wondering about the same when she was alone. They used to be teased quite a bit, especially when they carried off a romantic scene realistically. She had realized that most of those scenes had had her true feelings involved and she knew that she was treading on dangerous grounds because she had no idea what he felt for her. She had tried hard to fight her feelings and even used to stay away from him sometimes but it had not worked one bit because he would come over to her and start joking around and there she went.
She had tried very hard to prevent her true feelings from getting displayed though and she had succeeded to a certain extent. She could only let go during their scenes together and sometimes interviews also where she would hide behind her character. He would do the same and that made her wonder whether he also felt the same way she felt. But she was afraid to ask. Afraid that if she told him and he did not feel the same, she would lose a great friend in him. His friendship meant a lot to her and she could not lose it at any cost. Even if it meant letting her love go unreciprocated...
When their show was drawing to an end, she used to get sad just thinking of the times they had spent together. She did not know when they would ever get such times back and that saddened her immensely. He was also not himself and they would find themselves sitting together but not saying a word to each other. The silence conveyed their emotions and that was enough for both of them.
On the last day of the shoot, he had been even more withdrawn and often seemed like he wanted to say something to her but was unable to. She was constantly feeling teary but she knew she couldn't afford to break down. Then he had come over to her and just a look from him had broken her down. He had hugged her tight and kissed her forehead. He had buried his face in her neck for a few seconds and she had felt his tears.
All good things come to an end. The show did too. It had now been a month and they had always kept in touch. They had met a couple of times but it had not been the same and she could tell he felt the same way. She often thought of meeting up and telling him what she felt for him but again the fear of losing him would come up. She was not at all sure of his feelings for her. She had always had a positive feeling about it but she was afraid to blow up the whole thing. She missed him greatly and wished she could turn back time. She would do anything to have him by her side at this moment. She could not count the number of times she had cried herself to sleep because she missed him.
She was a brave person by nature but when it came to him, she did not know what to do and how to go about things at all. She hugged the towel tighter and just then, her phone rang. She quickly wiped off the tears that she had not even realized were falling out of her eyes and went to pick the call.
Her heart leaped greatly when she saw his number flashing on the phone screen. She took a deep breath and accepted the call.
"Hello," she said.
"Hi. Can we meet? I need to talk to you urgently. Same place we always meet. In 10 minutes." He said, in his beautiful voice and in a tone that never failed to increase her heartbeat.
She smiled. Maybe the time had finally come. She had always believed he was her soulmate and maybe it was time she let him know what he really meant to her. It was now or never. She felt it in her bones. This was it!
"Okay." That was all she said and when he said Bye, the smile in his voice convinced her that she was going to hear what she had always wanted to hear from him.
She hung up and could not stop smiling. She placed the towel on the cabinet in her living room and went to get ready to meet him - the man of her life; the man of her dreams; her SOULMATE.
