Story So Far
Brij is also responsible for the death of Channi, a friend of Geet's, who had fallen in love with a boy before marriage (thus disgracing the family in Brij's estimation). This drives Channi's mother crazy who makes several appearances in front of the Handa's and curses them.
One day Geet secretly takes her younger brother, Titu, riding on a scooty where she loses her chunni and they get in to a small accident. This is the first meeting point of Dev and Geet who tries to give Geet back her chunni, only for a terrified Geet to bolt. However, when a Canadian rishta arrives, Geet is shocked to find that the prospective groom is none other than Dev, accompanied by his mother, elder bhabi (Naintara) and sister.
Whilst Geet does not wish to go to Canada, the alliance is fixed and Dev quickly wins over her trust. However he informs the family that due to some problems back in Canada, they must get married in the next few days, and that too from Dev's house as that is their tradition. Geet's family reluctantly agrees and heads towards the wedding point.
En route they stop at a mela where Geet is given a taveez by a palm reader who tells her that she will meet her life partner very soon. Geet is separated from her family and chased by goons when she bumps in to Maan Singh Khurana. She begs him for help but he walks away. However when Geet falls in to the sea, he saves her and despite wanting to be rid of her, drives her to where her family is in an attempt to get rid of her.
However he quickly becomes annoyed with Geet and leaves her in the middle of the road where she is found by her family. Unbeknown to both of them, Geet's taveez is left with Maan.
Naintara informs Geet that her signature is requested on a blank piece of paper for the Canadian Embassy. Dev's family also receive many gifts and Geet's share of the Handa land as Dahej. The wedding takes place and both Dev and Geet consummate their marriage. However it is revealed that Naintara is Dev's real wife, the wedding was a fake in order to get money from the Handas and Dev's family have no intention of taking Geet with them to Canada. This is proven when they drug her and leave her at the airport.
The Handa family on learning the truth are devastated but Geet refuses to believe that Dev has left her. She runs away from the family in order to find Geet but is chased by her brother Brij. Geet hides in a jeep which turns out to be Maan's. She learns that her land has been sold and realises that Dev has betrayed her.
Maan returns Geet to her house and demands that she signs some papers finalising the sale of the land. Geet refuses, adamantly insisting that the land is hers. Maan, under the impression that the Handas have taken his money and are trying to trick him, is furious and tries to force the signature. Brij sees the opportunity to get rid of Geet and proposes that Maan marry Geet and the land will automatically be his.
Maan in reply humiliates the Handas in front of the village.
Geet learns that she is pregnant and tries to contact Dev with the news only for Naintara to hear it instead. She hurries back to India and makes arrangements to meet Geet in Amritsar under the guise of being Dev. Geet tells Maan that she will go with him to Amritsar to sign the papers.
However on arriving in Amritsar she faces Naintara who tells Geet that she (Naintara) is Dev's real life and that Geet should get an abortion. Geet is devastated but Maan believes that she has run away from home to meet her boyfriend.
On learning that Geet is missing, Brij hunts her down and brings her back home.
Meanwhile Rajji (Geet's sister) saves a wounded Gurvinder - Channi's lover (who actually married her and thus was Channi's husband) ' from Brij and his goons and hides him in their house. Maan returns to the Handa house to give Geet's copy of the land papers. He bumps in to Geet who begs him to help Gurvinder get out of the house safely otherwise Brij will kill him. Maan is under the impression that Gurvinder is Geet's boyfriend but helps her all the same.
Geet's family learn that she is pregnant (through a phone call by Naintara) and insist that she abort the baby. Geet refuses and an enraged Brij chases Geet to kill her (approved by Darji despite the rest of the family pleading otherwise). Geet is attacked by Brij and his goons only to be saved by Maan on his way to Delhi.
He dresses her wounds and tells her to report Brij to the police, under the impression that Brij has learnt of Geet and Gurvinder. Geet refuses resulting in an angry Maan leaving her to her fate. Instead Geet returns home and reveals the entire truth of the Handa family in front of the village.
Brij is arrested and Geet breaks all ties with her family, leaving for Delhi.
*****
In Delhi, Geet's father (unbeknown to Geet) has made arrangements for Geet to stay with his friend and his daughter Pinky. Pinky works at Maan's company along with Adi (who is sympathetic to Geet) and Sasha (who is Maan's right-hand in the Delhi office and has grey shades). Through miscommunication, Geet ends up interviewing for the job of Maan's personal secretary. Whilst Sasha is not happy about giving her the job, Adi convinces Maan that she is the right choice. Maan agrees, not knowing that this is, in fact, Geet.
Pinky convinces Geet not to turn down the job.
Geet heads to the Canadian Embassy to find out about Dev but is turned away. She bumps in to Maan who is surprised to see her alive but remains his brusque self. Geet promises herself that she will start a new life.
Both the families go shopping together. Geet goes to an astrologer who tells her that she is going to meet her life partner today. The families leave leaving behind Geet by mistake. Geet is followed by some goons, she tries to escape and bumps into a stranger.

And so on!
Our first word is
It was deep into the night as the moon now shone brightly and slowly poured into the window of the room in which she sat. The moonlight along with the multiple candles adjourning the bedsides, tables and floor seemed to illuminate her surroundings.
She was sitting patiently in the middle of the bed on which were numerous red rose petals. All around the bed seemed to be garlands of flowers the reached from the ceiling to the ground. It created a cascade all around her and in it's midst, she sat.
It was a rather uncomfortable feeling, she could feel her heart beating against what felt like her ribcage and her stomach churning in fear or anticipation or both she was not sure. She was thankful for the heavy red dupatta which acted as her veil.
She had her chin resting on her knees and she was clad in a heavy red and golden wedding langha. The jewelery itself seemed to add to the weight she wore and she wasn't sure whether it was the reason she was becoming more and more agitated.
The jewelery was the same that Dadimaa had requested for her to wear before, however than she had not known its importance. Today, she was a new woman whose identity had changed so that the jewels which adorned her now belonged to her as well.
There was a familiar shifting and than click of the door to the bedroom.
Geet inhaled sharply and looked up through her veil to see if she could see anything, or more like see someone. Obviously she couldn't and she realized this, the fabric was far too thick. So she had to listen in order to calm her heart which had begun to race even more if possible.
Maan slowly stepped inside his bedroom and paused, surprised at the decor. He slowly let it all sink in and the depth of his actions hit him. As he eyed his bedroom decorated with flowers and candles, his eyes soon found what they had been searching for so helplessly.
It knocked the breath out of him, and he was left staring at the young woman who sat in the middle of the shelter of flowers which seemed to fall all around her. Her face was veiled with the dark red dupatta and she sat with her hands around her knees.
He could see her golden and red bangled wrists and arms hugging her legs, while her hands with the dark colour of mehndi clutched at the fabric of her langha. He soaked in the site of her that was so alluring and seducing that it was pulling him towards her very slowly.
Geet could hear his footsteps as he was slowly making his way towards her. As he grew closer her heart was beating like a drum and she feared that he would be able to soon hear it. She was thankful that her face was hidden for she knew she was probably flushed.
As he drew closer he pulled the flowing curtain of flowers away and ever so slowly and lightly sat at the side of the bed. A few moments of silence passed between them as he observed his bride and she was rocked by nervous curiosity as to what he was doing.
Geet could hear her heart pounding in her head as she finally saw a small movement from the corner of her eye as she looked down through her veil. Maan was ever so slowly moving his hand on the bed towards her.
She gulped as she didn't want to shrink back but didn't know how to react. So when his hand made its way to the border of her dupatta she was paralyzed. She didn't think she could look him in the eye so she kept her gaze planted on her bangles.
Maan had slowly reached towards her dupatta and holding his breath carefully lifted it. He felt his heart thrash in his chest as he slowly uncovered her slightly parted lips and than her lowered eyes. Resting the dupatta atop her head, he let this image sink into his memory.
Geet itched to look at him, but she was terrified out of her mind at what she would find within his eyes. Anger or love.
She therefore continued to look at her wrists but was shocked when his fingers slowly made their way under her chin. Obeying their command she allowed his fingers to slowly turn her towards him and raise her face so that her eyes met his.
It took every ounce of his self control to let this moment play out slowly. He wanted each and every memory to be sealed within his mind and heart forever. So when her hazel eyes looked into his own he found himself unable to keep his hands off of her.
It began with his fingers traveling from her chin to cheeks and slowly caressing them as she closed her eyes and turned her head away. He didn't stop and trailed his fingers done her jaw and than neck.
She again averted her gaze from him as his fingers made their way around her neck and both his arms met at the nape of her neck to unfasten the necklace. His head dipped towards her and she felt his breath on her ear as she allowed him to unclasp the hook and than gently pull the necklace off of her.
He didn't move as he enjoyed the proximity of being so close to her and inhaling her scent. He lowered his head closer to her jaw and ran his nose along her jaw line.
Geet was petrified and her hands which were clutching her knees abruptly stopped him from grazing her face with his own. She placed them slowly on his chest to try and create a sense of a barrier between his body and her own.
She didn't know why but she needed it. She slowly whispered, "I'll do it." She was referring to taking off her jewelery and went ahead and demonstrate this as she made her way to her earring.
However to her dismay Maan did not move away but clasped her wrist firmly. Her lowered gaze rose to meet his eyes, questioning his action. But he had not moved no matter that her hand remained over his heart trying to stop him. On the contrary it only aggravated him further.
His eyes peered into hers and though hers questioned him, his firm jaw indicated that he wasn't about to let her stop him. One hand still gripping her wrist he used his free hand to pry off her earrings. His touch lingered on her ear and than his fingers yet again made their way down her neck.
She was getting restless under the gaze which he continued to hold and gasped as he bit her ear and with his teeth pried off her other earring. She now struggled under the grip he had on her wrist and was yanked forcefully forwards so that her face was mere inches away from his own. Their noses touched and she gulped as she tried to pull back.
He didn't let her and draped a hand around her waist to let their rising chests collide. She flushed and turned red as she tore her gaze away from him.
Her gesture and their bodies proximity was making it very, very hard for him to continue this slow, treacherous game.
"What are you doing." She said her voice strained and a bare audible whisper in his ear. Her breath electrified him to the core.
He answered in the same tone in her ear, as he let a hand slide and take off her tika. "Helping you."
She gasped at his audacity and boldness to compel her in such a situation and she said, "Stop it."
Instantly he released her grip on her wrist and her waist. She fell slightly back as he bore his eyes into her own. She felt a pang of guilt, he was her husband and he had a right to . . . She gulped at the thought. No, it was better this way. It was all to fast and too much she said trying to convince herself, but her heart said otherwise.
Just when she thought he had stopped the corners of his mouth turned a little and he made his way down her arms to raise both her wrists in his hands. He than began to take her kangan and bangles off.
Realizing she was only encouraging him by denying him to simply take of her jewelery she seemed to be sinking deeper and deeper into the allure that his gaze held.
"I . . . I think----"
He didn't let her finish as he again pulled her wrists towards him and this time forced his lips onto her own. Her eyes widened as she met with the contact of his fierce lips atop her own. His arms snaked around her waist as he crushed her to him.
Her hands became fists as she struggled against his grip. He continued to kiss her wildly as she didn't know how to respond or to just give in.
He could feel her thin body trying to escape from him, and it made him want her all the more. Her soft lips were under his own and he forcefully parted them as he explored her mouth.
She instantly stopped and her hands now rested on his chest, she let him continue as she slowly gave in.
Her acceptance made him realize what he was doing and he instantly turned his face away.
They both faced away from one another, breathless at what had just taken place.
Maan repented as he began to slowly back away, "I . . I will sleep on the sofa and uh . . . You can have the bed . . . I got carried away . . I shoul---
It was Geet's turn to shut him up as she slowly raised her face to his own. He stopped when he realized what she was doing and she paused fearfully before his lips. But it was all the time he needed to realize what she wanted as her eyes spoke it all.
Very slowly he dipped and this time gently met his lips onto her own and as she voluntarily circled her arms around his neck, he smiled as he slowly eased himself forward on top of her on the bed.
"I love you." She breathed uttering the words she had never said before and finally seemed to have the right to.
"I love you too . . ." He wanted to say so much more. But instead just said, "Mrs. Maan Singh Khurana." And than went back to continue where he had left off.
And finally, the husband and wife became one.
How, how, could I have let her talk me into it? People like me do not go on blind dates. It's just'wrong. I mean, what if the guy's a murderer? Or a rapist? Or how about plain old freak?
Hai Babaji. What the hell is wrong with me?
The doorbell rang. I stomped angrily all the way to the door, and opening it, with a scowl plastered on my face. Great way to greet a person, huh? But this wasn't any person. It was Pinky. She is horrible. Also my best friend, but yeah, horrible. You see, she's the one who talked me into this 'blind date' nonsense. And I actually got talked into it.
"I am not going," was the first thing I said to her.
She was probably expecting that. She rolled her eyes, and said, 'relax, Geet. I know the guy. Properly, okay? He's not a freaking rapist or something. Trust me.'
"NO." Okay, so I was acting stubborn. Sue me.
"Well, too bad," she said. "Hey, you look great. He'll love it."
I raised my eyebrow. "I don't even know who he is. You know what, call him up and tell him that I don't wanna go. Say I'm busy or something. Because I changed my mind ' I'm not going."
"Yes, you are. Look, it's all planned. The guy will meet you there; you already know the table number. He has black hair. Okay? Not that hard." It was very hard. Very, very, hard. She didn't have to make small talk with some random guy, so it was probably easier for her.
"But well'I dunno; what if I get the wrong guy?" I know, I know. Fat chance of that happening. I mean, not everyone out there went on blind dates. It was probable that it would only be the both of us there.
"Yeah'okay,' said Pinky, rolling her eyes again.
"Anyway, enough chit-chat for now. Off you go," she said with a wave of her hand. Yeah, she was kicking me out of her own house.
Instead of saying anything, I chose to give her one of those fake smiles, the ones everyone hates. The ones you get from those people who pretend they like you. Those ones are the worst. She, however, saw all through that, and gave me one right back. Humph.
I got into my car, and closed the door with a slam. It was until I was there when I realized that I still didn't catch his name. Hai Babaji! I smacked my forehead with my palm.
Okay, okay, I told myself, taking a deep breath, it's not that bad.
So what, I didn't know the guy's name. Big deal. It was a blind date, anyway. At least I knew the table number. It was eleven'no wait'ten. Uh'or was it eleven?
Hai Babaji!
I took in a deep breath. To any random person on the street, I was probably looking like some moron who lost her way. I mean, here I was, standing outside a restaurant, taking deep breaths.
I shook my head to myself, and walked into the restaurant. I glanced from one corner to the other. I wasn't sure if it was table ten or eleven, so I looked at both of them.
Hmm. Table eleven was empty. Okay, that probably wasn't it. I mean, it was probably reserved for some family who wanted to go out for a nice dinner. Like normal people.
My eyes shifted to table ten. Ah. There was one guy there. I couldn't really see his face properly. Yeah, it had to be him. Plus, he had black hair.
I slowly walked over to table ten, suddenly feeling self conscious.
"Hi," I said uncertainly, unsure of what to do what my hands.
His eyes flew up and he stood up. Great, the guy was like seven inches taller than me. I look up.
"You're very tall," I informed him.
He grinned, and I took the time to notice how he looked now. Pinky never told me how striking this guy was. First of all, he was incredibly tall. Lean yet muscular. He had black, messy hair and a gorgeous smile. Not to mention a very attractive stubble.
"You must be Gauri," he said.
"It's Geet, actually," I said.
He frowned. "Really? Oops, sorry."
Hai Babaji. I could tell; this was going to be awkward. What if we didn't have anything in common? This was going to be bad.
Maan nodded. Oh, I found out his name, by the way. And, contradictory to what I was thinking all along, I could definitely get along with him.
"That's so weird. Do people even do that?" I asked, shuddering.
"Apparently, that guy does. Hey, I had to be his roommate, okay? Feel sad for me," he said, grinning.
"Yikes. I wonder how you did it."
"I know. I deserve a Nobel. Although, I had to switch rooms after around two weeks."
"Really? I don't exactly blame you."
He nodded again. A waiter approached our table.
"Excuse me, sir," he said and turned to me with a bow, "madam." I nodded and smiled. That's one thing I like about these rip-off restaurants. They were shockingly polite.
"I'm sorry; but the restaurant is closing down now."
I blinked, and looked at my watch. Hai Babaji! It was nearly one.
"Of course," said Maan, nodding, "we'll be right out."
The waiter left. "Oops," I said laughingly.
"I think we should go before they kick us out."
He took my by the hand after paying the bill and led me out. We starting walking with no particular destination, and our conversation about his weird roommate continued. Then we switched topics to toasts. I was pretty sure my toasts were better, and I told him so. He didn't think so.
Finally, we got back.
"I guess I'm going to go now. It's already two," I said, with an apologetic smile.
"Do you need me to drop you home?" he asked.
"Nope, my car's right here," I said, pointing to the car opposite us.
He took my hand and kissed it. It was such an old fashioned gesture that I nearly melted right there.
"You have my number, right?" I asked him. He nodded. I had his as well, so it was all good.
I got into my car, that stupid grin refusing to leave my face.
I yawned and opened it, to find a guilty looking Pinky looking at me. She walked in and sat on my couch. I frowned, wondering what went wrong.
"Hey'?" I said unsurely.
"I am so sorry,' she said hurriedly. 'I know, I know, you wanna kill me, right? Well, feel free to do so. I am an awful person.
"Pinky, what are you talking about?" I asked her, confused.
"About last night," she explained.
That irritating grin made its way back. "I actually wanted to say thanks. I'm sorry I didn't trust you."
Pinky frowned. "What are you talking about?" she asked.
"Last night," I said, "the guy, Maan. He was so interesting. And damn, he was gorgeous."
Pinky got up. "Who's Maan?" she asked slowly.
"Oh, very funny," I said, rolling my eyes. So immature.
"Geet, I got a call from Dev. You know; the guy you were supposed to meet at table eleven? He couldn't make it because of a family emergency." Dev? Table eleven?
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Table eleven?" Suddenly, everything was making sense. Table eleven was empty. It remained empty throughout our meal. Wait a second'who the hell was Maan?
"Oh my god, oh my god," I breathed, "are you telling me'.I went on a date with the wrong guy?"
That's why Maan got my name wrong! He was probably on the wrong date as well.
Hai Babaji!
"You went on a date with the wrong guy? What do you mean?" asked Pinky, in a high pitched voice.
"I don't know," I said, really fast, "I mean, I went there, and table eleven was empty, so I figured it had to be table ten, ya know? And there was a guy with black hair there, an insanely gorgeous guy, who called me 'Gauri', but I didn't make much of it, since Geet's well sort of close to Gauri. Oh my Babaji, he was probably on a blind date as well; I don't think his date showed up either. And we both spent forever there, not even realizing we were with the wrong people!"
Now was probably a good time to freak out.
"Well, was he some sort of freak?" asked Pinky.
"No, he wasn't," I replied, in a high pitched voice as well (that's what normally happens to us women when we freak out); "he was a bloody chivalrous gentleman! I really liked him!"
"Well, what're you gonna do? Do you have his number?" asked Pinky shrilly.
"Yeah'I guess I'm just going to call him'and I'll see what happens from there. Go with the flow, I guess."
But Pinky stopped me before I could dial his number.
"Go with the flow?" she asked incredulously. "NO! You are going to have a plan, okay? Do you wanna see this guy again?"
"Yeah," I said, sighing, "I really do."
"Well," said Pinky, "what if they guy doesn't know he went out with the wrong person?"
"I'm pretty sure he knows," I said.
"Call him. Tell him you wanna meet him in, like, fifteen minutes. Once you meet him, well, you'll be able to tell if he knows or not. If he doesn't know, all the better for you. If he does, well then, figure out something."
"That's the worst plan ever. As in, ever."
I have no idea why I actually did what she said.
He jogged his way to where I was, and said, "Hey listen, we need to talk."
That would probably hurt if we were going out. Sad thing was, we did need to talk. So he knew. Hmm.
"Yeah, we do," I said, nodding.
"Yesterday, I was supposed to on a blind date with someone named Gauri," he explained. "I thought I got the name wrong. Turns out, I didn't."
"Yeah, I was supposed to go out with some munda named Dev. Guess I got the wrong person as well."
"So we both went out with the wrong people, huh?" he asked, while I stood up
"I guess we did," I said.
Oh no. This was probably it.
"So'what are we going to do?"
"Honestly?" I asked, nibbling my lower lip, which is something I do when I'm nervous. "I'm not sure." I know what I wanted to do. But I didn't exactly voice that out.
"The funniest thing is," he said quietly, "I'm glad Gauri didn't show up."
No that, got me astounded. I looked up and frowned.
"And I'm glad," he continued, "Dev didn't show up either."
"You are?" I asked, in a whisper.
"I'm also glad," he went on, "that I met you in the craziest way possible."
He brushed a thumb over my cheekbone, leaned down, and lightly brushed his lips against mine.
"So, that's it?" I asked. "It's kind of like a 'let Dev and Gauri' go to jhanum kind of a thing?"
He grinned, and interlaced our fingers. "Indeed."
And what a grin it was. Hai Babaji!
