The serial follows the life of Geet (played by Drishti Dhami), a simple Punjabi girl who is brought up to live according to the will of others. "It is the story of every other Indian girl who is denied her right to live the way she wants to. She is constantly told to talk in a particular way, learn to adjust, dress in a particular way. Geet too is eventually pushed into marrying an NRI, but once married, problems begin, and Geet is faced with the tough choice of either submitting to it or standing up for her right. There is a craze about NRI sons-in-law here, bordering almost on obsession, who followed newspaper stories and reports on incidents of NRI marriage scams to give shape to the serial
Maan in a nutshell- an angry young mean who is happy being by himself and aloof from the world.Always secluded and doing his own things, Maan is not much of a talker and prefers to keep his distance from people, especially girls who aren't fond of him much either because of his background and elusive nature. He is also very calm, buts his is the last word. So he is one of those guys with a cold and hard exterior. He is hardly bothered about anything. He is always present around Geet in hour of need.
Geet belongs to a traditional family living in a small town. She is a 18 year old girl who is in college. She is educated, pretty and warm. Brought up in the midst of values and traditions, she lives a happy life, but knows when to tow the line with respect to the norms and rules set by the elders of her family. Belonging to a Punjabi joint family, Geet is very close to her parents and shares all her joys and sorrows with them. She knows that honor and dignity are two words that her family holds dear to their hearts and will never cross her boundaries.
