Hi All,

Just wanted to ask you all, the importance of classical dance forms & folk dances on Dance India Dance stage. I personally feel DID lacks Indian dances. Ultimately its Dance INDIA Dance & not Dance US Dance.

Do you think, somebody should win the show who does not have any decent knowledge of Indian classical? I dont think anybody apart from AMRITA has fair amount of knowledge on Classical. Among the mentors only GEETA is classically sound.

Before the GEETA-bashers start shouting at me, I genuinely want to say that, classical dance forms are much tougher than western dances. For instance, one can master the basic Salsa/ Samba/Hip-hop moves in about a week s time (Atleast I learned them in short time) but people take years to dance Bharat-Natyam.

Please think twice before bashing somebody like GEETA. Bcoz Not Knowing Hip-Hop is not a crime but, being a INDIAN not knowing Bharat-Natyam or Manipuri IS A CRIME for a choreographer!!! Think about it, and don't take it personally. Talk about dance not about personal favorites.

@d4u .. SO TRUE!!

I remember during the auditions in vadodara, the first participant did a classical act..he wasn't selected.. but he was really upset that young adults + the judges are focusing more on western than classical nowadays. The judges totally bashed him, which was so wrong of them cause he really had a good point to share. If anything, classical should be incorporated a bit more into the show to balance it out. Indian dance is as important and beautiful as any other form of dancing is.

I WAS GOING TO MAKE THIS TOPIC SOONER OR LATER! THANKS FOR MAKING IT! Honestly, why won't they do classical dance on an Indian show ? Terrence brings styles from outside, fine that's alright but then you shouldn't forget your own culture's styles now should you?

Also one more thing, slightly off and connected to the topic (both :P) , why do the mentors like talking in english more than in hindi? It's an Indian show. Honestly, it is hard for some people to understand who don't know english very well and it is unfair because it is an Indian show so they shouldn't speak in English most of the time! So weirddd.

Amrita Performed classical dance and she was looked over and Tina was picked by Geeeta Maa
DID 1 TOP 12 first round a classical dancer was eliminated can't recall her name...Pretty gal and very good dancer...So what r u talking abt? It is the same Janta keeps eliminating classical dancers like Kruti, Tashu, Amrita who prove their versatality and keep one dimentional dancer like Dharmesh IMHO...

  1. Salman never did a classical dance still he was the winner in season 1
  2. If Western dance styles were not required,DID producers would have chosen Saroj Khan, Vaibhavi and not Terence and Remo.
  3. I would love to see more classical dances. Kruti an exceptional dancer, did not want to do classical coz our Indian junta does not vote for classical dancers.
  4. Geeta is a classical dancer, but she shows more of Hip-Hop/Freestyle dances than classical dances. Count the number of times her contestants have shown classical dances and compare it to the number of times her contestants do freestyle/hip hop.
  5. Geeta chose Teena over classical dancer like 'Amrita"

hmmmm.... there is a hypocrisy in it.... people apparently who love classical dances & boasts of there classical training mostly love bollywood freestyle dance when compared to pure classical dances.
they also prefer to pay 'tribute' the classical dances of India by their weird choreography along with hinglish raps!!

No I am facing the same problem like ALD !! I am not able to LIKE posts !! but anyways I agree yeah Geeta is the only one who must have showcased a lot of regional/classical dances. Really proud of her. Moreover she does more of hiphop/freestyles because the audience likes more of these western dances than Indian ones. She must have had a bad experience when she asked D sir to do Tayyam and he was out. So she is not takign any chances but still she tries her best and whenever some one does classical she is full of praises for that contestant be it from her team or be it from any other team. She praised both Tashu and Kruti whole heartedly. Oh wait but , does anybody remember that ? Oh yeah, that should be ignored !! 😆😆😆

Doing classical is like a death sentence in DID..Look at Kruti, Amrita, Tashu..Enough said..If you want to win, steer clear of classical..Indian Junta does not appreciate Indian classical dance..Its a shame really..

Why blame the junta even..Remember how Geeta chose Teena's item dance over Amrita's mindblowing manipuri? Proof enough of Geeta's appriciation of classical dance style 🤢

I admire all those who are classically trained or currently training. I know myself how difficult it is master dance forms like Bharanatyam. Even some of the mudras are soo difficult!

But so what if Geeta has some sort of knowledge in classical. To be honest with you, Terence seemed to know more about classical dancing than Geeta. She admitted that Amrita taught her so much about classical dancing. In the Theyyam dance form, Terence taught her so much about how the dance really should be. This is why I feel like laughing in her face when she says to contestants like Shakti/Ameeth 'that you did something simple and did not experiement much'. I rather someone does something simple and sweet in Indian classical than experiment with something you haven't even researched properly. The thing with Indian classical dancing is that you can't just perform even if you have not learnt the steps properly because a lot of these dances have a religious meaning to them and some may even get offended.

But I do agree with you that Indian classical dancing is so hard and beautiful to watch too and we should see more contestants performing on classical dance forms.
