Ask yourself who you really are, your very essence, why do you think you are here on this planet, whether you think there's a BIG secret behind the universe and, if yes, what would you like to do to find it. It doesn't have to be conclusive. You don't have to arrive at a final answer kind of thing.

I would like the main contributors on this topic to go first but others are welcome too, to take a crack at it. I will wrap it up with my thoughts may be on page 148 or 149.

Good luck.

Ahvery well said.
Basically we have established that the real I is the consciousness or Atma.
Although intelectually and truthfully there is only One my personal experience is that of many and each of the many is intricately linked like the forming of a garland with the Atma (or Divine Spirit) at the core binding all.
My brains, my mind, my senses are all inadequate to grasp and experience the Truth, as I currently am only able to have limited awareness. so I have realised the unimportance of my so called individual character or ego ( no one is bigger than the show).
There are at least 2 sides to each of us, the unmanifested pure self and the manifested ego; the first being the real self and the second a temporarty character (basically ego with only physical or body awareness) There is only one real Self, who is present in all.
How to expereince the "I" in who am I?
some do the "soham" breathing mantra, which constantly reminds us that we are that.
yet others engage in intellectual analysis and enquiry and reject everything that is non-self.
Some follow various yogas and paths.
It is said that if we can remain conscious even while in deep sleep, we should be able to experience the atma. So keep trying folks and may God Bless.

"You (God) have made us for yourself and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee."

We are created in God's image for relationship with him. Being in that relationship is the only thing that will ultimately satisfy our souls. Until we come to know God, we've had many wonderful experiences, but we haven't hit a nail. We've been used for some noble purposes, but not the one we were ultimately designed for, not the one through which we will find the most fulfillment.

Until we come to know God, we are hungry and thirsty in life. We try to "eat" and "drink" all kinds of things to satisfy our hunger and thirst, but yet they remain.

Usually when we keep God out, we try to find fulfillment in something other than God, but we can never get enough of that thing. We keep "eating" or "drinking" more and more, erroneously thinking that 'more' is the answer to the problem, yet we are never ultimately satisfied. Our greatest desire is to know God, to have a relationship with God. Why? Because that's how we've been designed.

That is infinite and this too is infinite
Although from infinity is infinity is born
Yet the infinite remains forever full
Everything that we see, hear, taste or feel is the consciousness which dwells in the universe. living a life of renunciation and non-attachment do not covet the property of others.

Agreed , but I have to repeat my question regarding the purpose of this intricate creation. If it is without a purpose then we might as well just sit idle doing nothing , after all its perhaps all an illusion . But even if its an illusion I feel there has to b some purpose behind the illusion. The cycle of karma is b'lived by many. Re incarnation explains many of the questions regarding karma & its effects. Many Gr8 yogis too have spoken of different realms or dimensions to which souls seem to migrate as per their stage of evolution. "The consciousness" apparently has worked up quite an elaborate creation with many intricate "laws governing it ". It doesnt appear to B a simple case of waking up from our physical reality unto "the consciousness" There appear to b intermediary steps involved. There has to B a purpose for all this. If not then why even strive for anything including the struggle to survive...any clues regarding this ..anyone ???

Ya Allah kaun jane.😆 The pupose none knows, some say it is just a sport or a play and yet others say "What creation? wake up and stop dreaming! All is just an appearance and temporary".
From what I read it is the duty of each and everyone to try and wake up or find out who we are. Having to work and earn a living and help others are basically our responsibility, but we should not forget our duty. We have to play our part eventhough we may be just mere characters in a story or a dream.
From a practical point of view we cannot deny what we see and feel, it may have a temporary existence but still we should try to lead an ideal life.
It seems that once the Truth is known and fully experienced the individual soul becomes part of the whole (basically the false identity and reference is erased).

Then perhaps thats the "Purpose" ie to realise the "Truth". But that wud mean that the individual soul is not aware of the truth. Or , the Truth has been deliberately hidden from the soul whch is supposed to B a part of the ultimate Consciousness. (..why?)So the part is not equivalent to the whole !

Angie ji, you are right. It is not that the individual soul progresses because the real self is ever perfect.
It is said that when the light shines the darkness disappears, but darkness does not go anywhere.
One of the best examples I got was that all of us are in a dreamland, we should try to wake up and in waking the dream disappears ( and so does our false identity and identification). But there are some who love to live in the dream world.

Thats a good analogy S3, dream or sleep passes through different stages .The soul too possibly does the same B4 'waking up" to sleep again 😆 And yes whats wrong in enjoying a dream esp if its a pleasant one !

Sorry Angie! It's time to submit your own views on this topic instead of looking at the heavens for answers.

well the more I think about it i feel that the theory of re incarnation & karma answers many questions though not all. The purpose of being born into the physical world is to earn karma good points faster or rather to help one evolve faster & go on to the next stage of soul progression. ultimately to lose all identity & become one with the Consciousness .The progress of the soul is said to B very slow in the soul stage as not much karma is earned in that stage. The physical world is said to b denser & things take longer to manifest and allows ne to work out ones karma & also earn some more good ones thus helping one on its journey. The minus point as explained somewhere is that one loses soul memry and so is liable to fall back further by earning neg points. Thats where the samskaras earned over many lives help to guide oneself. thats all I can manage at the moment. Dont know how far i b liv all this but it at least looks plausible.
