PPAW and Hindu patriarchy

I have started to follow some episodes of this show and was uncomfortable to find it patriarchal and parochial.
Every time Juhi is bossy over Sachin there's a huge fuss made out of it: with a voice over commenting on Juhi and Sachin being mocked with the "bechara bechara" song. While, though Gaurav Chopra is annoyingly bossy over Mouni, the show doesn't find a problem with it as if that's how things shud be. I find Mouni to be the most oppressed of all the women!
The whole show is modelled on a patriarchal Hindu family and the actors are supposed to live up to that model. Hence, the wives are supposed to perform Karwa Chauth, go to mandir, do Laxmi Puja for Diwali etc.
Also, it's true that Juhi has ruined her image totally now, but initially everybody found problems with Juhi because Sachin was shown to do household chores and was thus not being man enough!!!
I don't know, but you guys can better tell me, are there instances in the show that shows equality among the couples or a secular lifestyle that even non-Hindus can identify with?

p.s my objection with the Hindu actions of the show is also because Rakhi herself is not a Hindu, elesh seems more or less secular and even Shipla and Juhi refused to participate in Karwa Chauth.

Thats how majority of the families are during Diwali in India...Juhi didn't keep the karwa chauth because she thought she wud rather keep a real one than this one...The show is not forcing anyone to do anything, Rkahi decided not to follow it and she did so...The family has to follow some kind of a pattern on festivals and it was diwali time so thats how it was done...There is no reason to get religion in between...

I don't agree with your thoughts.......Here are instances in the show that demonstrate equality and a secular lifestyle....

1. Rakhi went out to work, while Elesh stayed home taking care of their cute daughter, Siya.

2. All the men folk help their wives with all the household chores like cooking, cleaning and dish washing..

3. Some men even wore the empathy bellies for their wives.....That is not patriachy....

4. Elesh gets vegetables from the vendor on the street...

3. Specifically about Mouni-Gaurav: They have shown a lot of situations where Mouni has left the house like a dump and Gaurav comes and cleans it all up, w/o a word....

4. Mouni didn't go to the temple....Juhi, Shilpa and Rakhi didn't follow Karva Chauth

5. Regarding Karwa Chauth, Lakshmi Pooja....This is a show made in India, being telecast in India, casting Indian celebs and with the majority of India with Hindus, it is easier for masses to associate with the Hindu functions and celebrations...I don't think it is non-secular in any way....Moreover, I live in the US and have watched "Baby Borrowwers, the non-Indian version of the same show" and there the tasks given to the teenage couples were different and fit the local situation, I still rememeber a couple tried to cook "turkey" for Thanks giving and the little kids went for "Trick or Treat" for Halloween...These are all customs followed in the US...but that can't be called.. "non-secular"!!!

Just My opinion.....People can add to my thoughts if they wish....

I respect the views posted in this forum and community over all. But I do not think that the patriarchy thing is related to any religion specially HInduism. In India every religion and region has its own way of living. I don't think that Islam or Christianity or Sikhism or any religion followed in India can be less patriarchial because accpet it or not we live in a male dominated society where women are working really hard to make their mark. Anyways that is a discussion for a different day but I think the mark about this being a "Hindu" dominated show that too patriarchial is really uncalled for. What is non secular about Diwali or Karwachauth ? They are the biggest festivals in India and as a reality show it just adds these elements in its programming style.. Every participant had the option of not following it and when they did not want to they did not.
About The bechara bechara song .. that has nothing to do with Hinduism or any other religion. It is sadly the mindset of many people in this country and has absolutely nothing to do with religion. You will find this mindset amonst the Hindus of Benaras, to the Muslims of Azamgarh, to the catholics of Bandra or Goa to the sikhs in Ludhiyana to the Jains in Gujrat. ANd that my friend is the biggest proof of secularism though not in the best way. But what to do .. Yeh hai India meri jaan ..
