Here I am posting a dialogue from my favourite Mahabharat where Krishna discusses about the reason and the implications of the name 'Rannchhod'.




After completing Gurukul, Krishna and Balaram join Mathura in their war against Jarasandh. The following scene comes just after Krishna and Balaram triumph over Jarasandh.

Mathura Raajsabhaa

('Krishna-Balaram ki Jay'- can be heard from the background)

Ugrasen- Yadi Krishna aur Balaram thik samay par na aa gaye hote, to Mathura ka paraajay aaj nishchit tha. To Mathura par in dono ka ek aur rinn chadh gaya.

Krishna – Kshama chaahta hoon Maharaaj, parantu maatrubhoomi kabhi rini nahi hoti. Aur yadi koi yeh soche ki usne ya uske parivaar ne maatrubhoomi par koi upkaar kiya hai, to yeh uski bhool hai. Maine jo kiya, wo mera kartavya tha. Aur aaj ke pashchaat mai jo kuchh karunga, wo keval kartavyapaalan hi ke liye karunga. Vijay ki is kshan me mai yeh kehna chaahta hoon ki Magadh Naresh Jarasandh phir aakramann karenge.

Balaram- To is me chintit hone ki kya aavashyakta hai? Yaduvanshiyon ko yun Magadh Naresh se ghabarana shobha nahi deta.

Akrur- Mai Balaram se sehmat hoon, Maharaaj.

Ugrasen- Phir bhi hume Krishna ki baat to sunni hi chaahiye. Hum yeh kaise bhul sakte hain ki yeh Devaki ka aathvaan putra hai, jo Mathura ko hi nahi, balki poori Vraj-bhoomi ko, Kans se mukti dilaane ke liye aaya hai.

Akrur- Parantu Mathura to Kans se mukt ho gayi hai Maharaaj.

Vasudev- To yeh Jarasandh kya hai? Aur yeh baar baar Mathura par aakramann kyun kar raha hai? Abhi yeh yuddh samapt nahi hua hai Maharaaj.

Krishna – Mai Pitaashree se sehmat hoon Maharaaj.

Balaram – Yadi yeh yuddh samapt nahi hua hai Pitaashree, to Jarasandh ko aane dijiye. Is baar yeh yuddh samapt hi kar dete hain.

Krishna- (smiling) Veer Purush ko yuddh ke liye itna utaavalaa nahi hona chaahiye Dau. Balveer ki to pehchaan hi yeh hai ki wo aavashyak aur anaavashyak yuddh ka antar samajh sakta hai. Anaavashyak yuddh to keval abhimaani karte hain.

Vasudev – To kya hum Magadh Naresh ke paas yeh praarthana leke jaayen Putra ki yuddh me hamaare haathon paraajay to avashya hui, parantu hum par daya karo, hum ladnaa nahi chahte?

Krishna Yadi yeh kehne se yuddh tal jaye, to yeh kehne me bhi kshati nahi hai Pitaashree.

Darbari – Yeh tum kya keh rahe ho Vaasudev Krishna? Kya hum Yaduvanshi us Jarasandh ke aagey ghutne tek den?

Krishna Nahi, ghutne to keval kaayar tekate hain, to yeh mai kaise keh sakta hoon? Apni rakshaa ke liye, raashtra ki rakshaa ke liye ladanaa to hamaara kartavya hai.

Balaram – To phir tum keh kya rahe ho? Kabhi to do bol seedhe bol liya karo…

Krishna – Mera prastaav yeh hai ki hum Yaduvanshiyo ko Mathura chhod deni chahiye.

Public – Hum Mathura nahi chhodenge … Hum Mathura nahi chhodenge…

KrishnaKrodh ki kataar krodhi ki buddhi ko kaat deti hai. To koi aise shastra ka upyog hi kyun kare?

Balaram – Baaten na banaao Krishna … Tum yehi keh rahe ho na ki Jarasandh se darr ke hum ghar bhi chhod den aur rann bhi?

Akrur – Parantu itihaas to isse kaayarta kahega.

Balaram – Yeh kehkar Nandgaon ke maakhan ka apmaan to na karo Krishna.

Krishna – Yeh kehkar mai Nandgaon ke maakhan ka apmaan nahi kar raha hoon, Dau. Uski rakshaa kar raha hoon. Magadh Naresh ki ladaai to mere saath hai na? Ki maine Mama Kans ka vadh kiya hai? Unki do putriyan to mere kaaran vidhawa hui hain. To Magadh Naresh ke krodh ki agni me Mathura kyun jale?

Balaram – Haan, to tum akele hi unke liye bahut ho.

Krishna – Prashna yeh nahi hai, Dau… Parantu yuddh tabhi hona chahiye jab doosre saare maarg bandh ho chuke hon.

Vasudev- Parantu Jarasandh ne kaunsa maarg khula chhoda hai Putra?

Krishna – Ek maarg hai Pitashree. Mathura ko yuddh ki agni se bachaane ka ek maarg ab bhi khula hai.

Ugrasen – Kusnsa maarg khula hai Vats?

Krishna – Mathura se kahin aur chale jaane ka maarg, Maharaaj.

(Genaral public are astonished by this suggestion… They all stand up…)

Krishna – Mathura me hamara yug samaapt ho gaya hai. Naye yug ke swaagat ke liye hume ek Dwarika banaani chaahiye.

Balaram – Yeh kyun nahi kehte ki rann chhodne ka prastaav rakh rahe ho?

Vasudev – Yadi tumne aisa kiya to log tumhe 'Rannchhod Shri' kehne lagenge Putra.

Krishna Jis Mathura, jis Vraj-bhoomi ko swayam maine Kans ke atyachaaron se mukti dilaayi hai, usse Magadh Naresh Jarasandh ki badle ki bhaavna se bachaane ke liye mujhe yeh bhi swikaar hai ki log mujhe 'Rannchhod' kahe. Naamo me kya rakhha hai? Naam to pukaarne ka ek saadhan hai. Aur bus log mujhe chaahe jis naam se pukaaren, parantu jab mujhe aisa lagega ki pukaarnewala mujhe pukaar raha hai, tab mai avashya bolunga. Aur rahunga mai wohi, jo hoon.

Balaram – Main to phir bhi kahunga ki Sudarshan Chakra nikaalo aur…

Krishna Har gardan Sudarshan Chakra ke yogya nahi hai, Dau! Yaduvanshiyonko apne abhimaan se pyaar hai to hum yehi rahenge. Aur yadi unhe apni Vraj-bhoomi se pyaar hai, to hume swadesh tyaag karna hi padega. Kehna mera kartavya tha, maine kar diya. Ab nirnay lena Maharaaj ka kartyya hai.

Ugrasen – Mai Vaasudev Krishna se sehmat hoon.



(After this discussion, Krishna calls Dev-Shilpi Vishwakarma, tells him about Dwarika and Vishwakarma shows the plan of Dwarika.)


All the introductory dialogues by all the other characters were necessary😆 to reach the nice ones⭐️   ….The way Krishna says- 'Naamo me kya rakhha hai? Naam to pukaarne ka ek saadhan hai. Aur bus log mujhe chaahe jis naam se pukaaren, parantu jab mujhe aisa lagega ki pukaarnewala mujhe pukaar raha hai, tab mai avashya bolunga. Aur rahunga mai wohi, jo hoon'- is just Awesome! 👏

^ This was beautiful . I absolutely loved this scene , how he reasons everything.

I think u missed one dialogue. He says  "Main naam ki parvaah karoon ya parinaam ki " (Should I worry about the name or the consequences"

Or did I miss it ?

Indeed superb reasoning. Now this one is one of my and Lola's most favourites. After Draupadi swayamvar and marriage and just at the time of Vidur's visit to Kampilya to invite the Pandavas and Draupadi back to their HOME Hastinapur.

Krishna: To phir aapne kya nirnay liya yuvaraj Yudhishthir?

Yudhishthir: Mai yuddh nahi chaahta Vaasudev.

Krishna: Yuddh to mai bhi nahi chaahta. Aur naahi mai yuddh ka prashn utha raha hun. Mai to keval yeh keh raha hun ki ab samachar phail chuka hai ki aap log jeevit hain. Aur isliye aavashyak hai, ki aap log apna adhikaar mange. Apna adhikaar maangna, manushya ka kartavya hai. Aur yadi aap logon ne aisa nahi kiya, to ek aur aapatti bhi khadi ho sakti hai. Duryodhan yeh keh sakta hai, ki Hastinapur na aane ke kaaran aap logon ne apne saare adhikaar kho diye.

Balram: Parantu Duryodhan ek veer purush hai. Woh aisa kyun karega?😕

Krishna: Nihit swaarth Daau, nihit swaarth.

Drupad: Vaasudev thik keh rahe hain, Yudhishthir. Rajmukut vastu hi aisi hai. Iske liye, Dron jaise aachaarya ki aatma shakti ke paanv bhi dig jaate hain. Na keval Paanchaal ki senaayen, balki mere mitron ki senaayen bhi tumhare sath hai Pandu rajkumar. Tum jab chaahoge tab, yeh senaayen, tumhare dhwaj ke neeche, Hastinapur ki ore jaane ke liye prastut rahengi.

Krishna: Nahi Panchaalnaresh, nahi. Adhikaar maangne ke liye sena se adhik aatm vishwas ki aavashyakta hai. Senaon ki yaatra se udnewali dhool, adhikaaron ke prashn ko dhak legi. Log kahenge ki Yudhishthir ne apne jyesth taatshree par aakraman kiya. Aur unhe bhi apni raksha aur Hastinapur ki suraksha ke liye rannbhoomi me aana pada. Abhi satya Pandavon ke paksh me hai. Pandavon ke shibir me satya ke dhwaj ko leherane dijiye. Kyunki ant me vijay, satya hi ki hoti hai. Yadi rannbhoomi me aana hi hai, to pehle we log aayen. Pandavon par aakraman karne ka aarop nahi lagna chaahiye.

Dhrishtdhyumn: Yuddhniti to yeh nahi kehti. Woh to kehti hai, maar pehle karni chaahiye.

Krishna: Sach keh rahe ho. Par mai to yuddh ki baat hi nahi kar raha hun. Mai to shaanti ki baat kar raha hun yuvaraaj.


Dhrishtdhyumn: Yadi aap yuvaraaj ke sthaan par rahe hote, aur aapke chaaron bhai aur aapki maataashree samet sabko Laakshagruh me jala kar bhasm kar dene ka shadyantra, racha gaya hota tab aap kya karte?


Krishna: Tum mujhse char bhaion ki baat kar rahe ho yuvaraaj? Mere to chheh bhaion ki hatya kar di gayi thi. Mere pitashree aur maatashree kaaragruh ke andhkaar me, dino ki baat alag, varshon tak ki ginti bhool gaye the. Phir bhi maine mama Kans par aakraman nahi kiya. Jab unhone mujhe bulvaaya, tab mai Nandgaanvo se Mathura gaya.

(The level of talk is highly spiritual over here. Human Krishna - who was not supposed by people in general to have the knowledge about his real father-mother & there whereabouts - is not talking over here; but someone - God Krishna - who was knowing everything right from the childhood is talking over here and acknowledging that to Dhristdhyumn that he knew everything in his childhood about the secret of his birth and who he was and was not told at teenage by anyone but stayed in Vraj deliberately till the appropriate time arrival. Krishna not only did wait for the right time for Kans' death and end of Vasudev-Devaki's sufferings but he also mentions it here as an example - loksangrah - for ordinary humans to be followed. Very strange and complex dialog over here. Same point Lola also pointed out in her talks with me on Orkut scrapbook.)

Bheem: To hum log kya yahan baithe baithe, nimantran ki pratiksha karte rahenge?

Krishna: To aap hi bataaiye aap log kya chaahte hain?

Bheem: Sabse pehle to mai us Duryodhan ko patak patak ke maarunga.


Balram: Yeh majla Kuntiputra to sadaiv veeron ki hi bhaasha bolta hai.😃

(Krishna also laughs. Then a door keeper/messenger enters and informs everyone that Vidur has arrived from Hastinapur. Drupad instructs Dhrishtdhyumn to welcome him and give him stay in guest house to allow him to rest after the journey so that next day, official meeting can be arranged.)

Balram: Kya tum jaante the ki Vidurji aanevale hain?

Krishna: Yeh to aap bhi jaante rahe honge Daau. Kyunki iske atirikt Maharaaj Dhritaraashtra aur kar bhi kya sakte the? Unhone to, Duryodhan ko bhejna chaaha hoga. 😊 Parantu uske paas abhimaan adhik hai, aur samajh kam.

Yudhishthir (Hurriedly): Yadi aagya ho, to hum kaakaashree ko pranaam kar aayen?

Krishna: Nahi yuvaraaj. Aaj we kaakaashree nahi hain. Aaj we Hastinapurnaresh ke doot hain. Isliye uchit yahi hoga ki sabke saamne mila jaay ki sab sun sake, ki unhone kya kaha, aur tumne kya uttar diya. Yeh, kudhaaranaaon se bachne ke din hain yuvaraaj.

@ Debi di - bahut maza aaya padhke, thanks for posting di 🤗that's the first scene MB establishes Krishna and Balram's contrasting personalities in, and it very beautifully mirrors the difference between Ram and Lakshman that RS shows us especially in the Setu Nirmaan scene - that "daiv is only invoked by lazy cowards" exchange... and it's a perfect way to guide us in the right direction, showing us how silly we must be sounding to Him when we are short-tempered and arrogant 😆 and in comparison, how much better we would sound if we were more like Him, calm and composed 😍

@ Shivang bhaiya - aapko bhi bahut bahut dhanyavaad... one of my most fav dialogues The comment you made under that particular line we love is so true and so well written, reminds me of this line from one of my fav bhajans that my mom taught me when I was little... very hard to find though...
"antaryami andar baitha, sabka hisaab lagaata,
mere daata ke darbaar mein sab logon ka khaata!"

So very rightly said Lola.👏 👏 That Rannchhod scene was the first ever exhibition of different ideologies of Krishna Balram which stayed afterwards from that stage of their lives in most cases. And whatever well written lines you found in my post were inspired from you and your point only behena. Us paragraph ke liye dhanyavad ka hakdaar to meri sweet sister hi hai. I have made some grammatical changes by the way in that paragraph by rearranging some of the words & phrases so according to me, the original framing of sentences was still not perfect.😊

Antaryaami andar baitha - bahut sahi likha - Ishwarah sarva bhootaanaam hriddeshe tisthati. Waise ye Krishna ke janam se hi apni identity ke knowledge ke context me to nahi tha I think. Sab ka hisaab lagaataa - I think you wrote it with reference to the words 'Appropriate time arrival'. Right?

What I liked most about the above scene posted by Shivang is the way Krishna says- '…Par mai to yuddh ki baat hi nahi kar raha hun. Mai to shaanti ki baat kar raha hun yuvaraaj'- Just Excellent! ⭐️

The transition from Human to Parabrahm Krishna (and also the reverse process) is so Subtle that sometimes, if not given proper attention, we may just miss that particular moment.

Such an EXCELLENT analysis Dear!⭐️ I LOVED IT 👏 ….The way you have mentioned about our 'Silly Approach in being short tempered and arrogant'- So True Dear! Aim to wohi hona chahiye ki kisi bhi situation me Unki tarah respond kare, but our attachment with 'This World' binds our Thinking.

That sentence "Main naam ki parvaah karoon ya parinaam ki " is not there (in my DVD) in this scene. But lets see, aage ki kisi scene me to mil ji jayega. Maine bhi yeh dialogue suna hai.. but i can't remember😡 the situation right now...
