2009: Big Year for Bollywood

While 2008 has been an average year for Bollywood with just three big hits - Jodhaa Akbar, Race and Singh is Kinng. But it sure looks like 2009 is a year for Bollywood. Big budgeted films with stellar star casts are all in the run to release next year.

Chandni Chowk to China


First it was titled Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo. Then Made in China. But call it what you want, Nikhil Advani's Chandni Chowk to China is generating a lot of interest what with Akshay Kumar and Deepika teaming up for the first time. It also marks the entry of Warner Brothers in India. It is first film which has been shot in China with a budget of approximately Rs 65 crore

Kambhakt Ishq


Kambakkth Ishq also stars Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor along with Hollywood biggies Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Beyonce Knowles and Denise Richards.There are speculations that Sylvester Stallone will come to India especially for the premiere. The budget of the film is a whopping 90 crores.

Billo Barber


Billo Barber stars SRK and Irrfan Khan. Intially slated for release in Diwali this year, the film was delayed to ensure a better opening. The film also stars Lara Dutta as Irrfan Khan's wife while SRK plays himself. This film also has item numbers by Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor.The film is directed by Priyadrashan. Rajnikanth's Kuselan which was the Tamil version of this film bombed at the box-office in the South but SRK is hoping for a better a fortune.

Wanted Dead And Alive


Produced by Boney Kapoor and directed by Prabhu Deva, this Salman Khan starrer also stars Ayesha Takia, Vinod Khanna, Mahesh Manjrekar and Sayaji Shinde. According to trade sources, Wanted Dead and Alive has been made on a budget of approximately Rs 30 crore and an additional Rs 5 crore will be spent on its publicity. The actor is said to have performed quite a few stunts in the film himself and marks his return to an all out action film after a long gap.

Kites


Hrithik Roshan will be seen in his home production romancing Latin actress Barbara Mori and Kangana Ranaut.The film is directed by Anurag Basu. With a budget of 60 crores, the entire film is being shot in New Mexico and Las Vegas. Hrithik will also be singing in the film.

Blue


Again a multi starrer, Blue will star Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, Zayed Khan, Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta. It is an all out action film and is being filmed in the Bahamas. The film is directed by Anthony De'souza and was written by American writers Joshua Lurie and Bryan M. Sullivan. It is one of the most expensive films ever made in India with an estimated budget of more than Rs.100 crore.The film is expected to release in mid 2009.

London Dreams


Singh is Kinng producer Vipul Shah comes back to direction with this film. This film will also have famous South Indian actress Asin with Salman Khan and will be shot in London and Paris. The film is set for release in mid 2009.

My Name Is Khan


Karan Johar brings back his favourite pairing of SRK and Kajol with this film. My Name Is Khan, will begin on December 15 in Los Angeles.In this film SRK's character suffers from Aspergers Syndrome (high functioning Autism). The film will be directed by Karan Johar.

Victory


Based on the country's favourite obsession, cricket, Victory stars Harman Baweja and Amrita Rao. Victory will be Harman's second release after his debut film Love Story 2050. The film is directed by Ajit Pal and made with a modest budget of 25 crores, the film hopes to capture cricketing fanst he world over after having included international cricketers like Brett Lee in the film.

Imtiaz Ali's next


The as yet untitled film by superhit director Imtiaz Ali, stars Saif Ali Khan and Deeika Padukone. It marks the debut of Khan as a producer.

I swear other movies such as JTYJN and Kismat Konnection were box office super hits too..anyway forget that I'm also looking forward to 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani' which hopefully comes out next year!!

well dese r da big budget movies which bolly is lookin forward in 2009 but its not necessary dat all of dem will be hit..if tawking abt 2008 ppl had alottt of expectations frm movies like LS 2050...drona..kidnap..krazy4..but dey all failed badly...v neva know how many of da abv listed movies do gud n how many dont..so i guess its a bit too soon to say 2009 a year for bollywood...it wuld be a year for bolly if majority of da abv mentioned movies do decent business

Ur right they were!! Especially JTYJN was biggest hit except maybe SIK beat it, idon't know but definitly a super hit!! I agree also wanna see Ranbir's next APKGK and most movies in list!!😉

A variety of films to look forward to, and all are very diffferent to each other.
And 2 Salman films....I'm happy
