I follow Akshay into projects: Katrina Kaif

MUMBAI: Britain-born Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, who has given many hits with Akshay Kumar, says she trusts the star's script sense and often follows him into projects.

Katrina's last hit with Akshay was "Singh is Kinng".

"He has a fantastic script sense. And you know, when he's doing it, it will work. Not that I go blindly into films that feature him. But, yes, he does have a fantastic knowledge of what works at the box office. That explains our success ratio together," Katrina said.

Interestingly, in Vipul Shah's "Namastey London", Katrina had the main role while Akshay played the supporting part. The tables were turned in "Singh Is Kinng". But Katrina says she wasn't allowed to complain.

"Every time I'd start complaining about the size of my role, Akshay would order me to go and stand in a corner and repeat 'Namastey London' five times and be quiet. He's right. He needn't have done 'Namastey London', which was the girl's story," said Katrina who teamed up with Akshay in "Welcome" as well.

After doing out and out commercial roles, Katrina changes gear with Prakash Jha's "Rajneeti" in which she'll go from a young student to a married woman, and beyond.

"I didn't think I was ready to do something like this. But then I heard the script and I couldn't resist it. Maybe because Prakashji is such a good narrator, I fell in love with my character," she said.

She feels if "Rajneeti" works, it will bring an interesting turn to her career.

"I'm doing enough hardcore commercial films. At this juncture of my career I can afford to do something that challenges me. As long as the script is entertaining, I'm all for it.

"As for my character, she's a light-hearted character to begin with. Later she grows serious and ambitious. If it works, it can do a lot for my career."

Katrina has a spate of releases lined up including "Hello", "Yuvraaj" and "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani".

"Is that a bad thing? A lot of my films have run into one another, films that I had committed to way in advance. These are things I can't control. And I really want to do these films. Or I wouldn't be doing them in the first place."

However, Katrina won't be taken for granted by people around her.

"You've to stand your ground. I can't please everyone all the time. I've realised that."

cinnamonrani, hey stranger! Haven't seen you around the forum much, hope you're keeping well :-)

Back to the article, it's quite interesting. And it's also interesting to know that Katrina has so much faith in Akshay Kumar. She does, however need to be careful. So much faith isn't always good. But I'm glad that she has different types of films lined up and roles that are more performance based. After watching some promos of Yuvraaj I have to say that Katrina is looking amazing. But methinks Yuvraaj will be her real test as an actress.
Oh, and thanx for posting!

in other words she chooses those "scripts" with Akshay because she has full faith that the movie will be a box office success...

Yeah, I am just very busy right now. It feels like forever since I have talked to you. This is so random, but I imagined Jeremy Paxman interviewing Sarah Palin, and I started laughing because she was forced to admit the truth that she was vastly unqualified. Then I woke up. Just thought I would tell you that because you know he could eat her for breakfast. He is the best interviewer ever. British journalism is the best. Heck, I actually stay up to catch the BBC World Service on the radio.
Back to the article now, I completely agree that she can't rely on Akshay forever. Have not seen the promos of Yuvraaj myself so can't comment on that. You are very welcome by the way.

Well, that is obvious.😆 I mean I don't know if I should laud her for her honesty or be like uh don't you care about your own artistic sensibilities. But she is more about the whole commercial aspect if you take the article by face value.

If Paxman was to interview Palin, that would be something I wouldn't want to miss ;-) he would most probably grill her big time. and lol...your dream sounds like a prophesy....who knows! I was watching her "debate" on CNN and was horrified. Politics is seriously dumbing down lol.
Yes, Katrina shouldn't rely so much on Akshay's selection. Blind faith is never good. And it's important for an actor/actress to live a little dangerously (not in the literal sense of course!) it's always good to try somethnig different, and make your own decisions. Even if you fail, you get the satisfaction of coming out of your comfort zone.

I really like Kat as a person, but as an actress, I feel that she leaves a lot to be desired. It also feels like she doesnt really have any passion for cinema, and her only desire is to retain that sucess ratio and the final outcome of a hit movie. Where is that desire to try different roles and cinema? To explore different genres? I'm really disappointed with this mentality Kat 😒
