When Dhruv inquired after the health of her and her unborn child , Shradda had been ecstatic.
Maybe " their" absence was making Dhruv miss ' them '.
There was that saying after all that absence makes the heart grow fonder wasn't there.
With that in mind , Shradda decided to pay a little visit to Pandey Nivaas to gauge her husband's feelings.
She went on the pretext of getting more clothes for Vasundhra.
She walked breezily through the front door to be greeted by an amazing and to her , an amusing sight.
Thapki's hand held captive by the gorilla and all the family members helpless to help her including Bihaan.
Her amusement soon turned to horror.
The gorilla looked at Shradda and recognised a kindred spirit.
The animal in him recognised the animal instincts in her.
He had been drawn to Thapki because of her sweetness and her care and concern for him but he felt raw animal attraction with Shradda so he relinquished Thapki's hand and headed to his true love , Shradda.
All Shradda saw was over 500 pounds of brute animal force headed her way and her natural flight instincts took over.
She turned to run back out the door , but forgot about the front door step and so tripped and fell flat on her face, fear making her lose consciousness straight away.
Almost simultaneously the animal control officers arrived and tranquilised the gorilla and took him away.
Because Shradda took a while to regain consciousness and concerned about the welfare of the unborn child, Thapki's lady doctor was called to the house.
Everyone milled around anxiously in Dhruv and Shradda's room as the doctor tried to listen for the baby's heartbeat. The doctor was alarmed when there was no heartbeat, so asked all the male members of the family members to vacate the room while she did a more thorough examination.
She reached her prognosis and called the men back.
Shradda regained consciousness just in time to hear the doctor telling everyone that Shradda was not pregnant and had never been pregnant.
Everyone stood aghast.
" There must be some kind of mistake" were the first words uttered by anyone and they came from Dadima.
" Oh, I assure you there is no mistake. It's hard to be mistaken when Shradda is actually in the process of menstruating right now. We can do a simple urine test right away and I can remove all your doubts by tomorrow morning when I have the results of this."
She held up the vial of blood she had drawn from Shradda while Shradda was unconscious.
"Anyway let's ask her. Shradda are you pregnant?"
All eyes turned to Shradda.
Shradda felt trapped.
Her truth had finally come out and she had no option but to admit the truth, that she wasn't pregnant.
Bihaan looked at Thapki with a look in his eyes saying didn't I tell you this.
The big shock however came from Dhruv.
" I knew it. I just knew it. With my medical problems I wondered where I got the wherewithal to get you pregnant"
Dhruv didn't know how to feel, disgusted at Shradda for this the biggest of all dhokas or relief that he didn't have to be trapped in this big lie of a marriage anymore.
He felt a little disappointment that he wasn't going to be a father but now he understood why the thought of fatherhood had not been sitting well on him.
"What medical condition" Shradda asked.
Ashwin answered" When we were children we were playing cricket, Dhruv was batting and Bihaan was bowling. Unfortunately Dhruv got hit in the groin area by one of Bihaan's quick balls whilst he was not wearing protection. We used to call Bihaan the Pandeymonium Express because of the speed of his balls."
"He had to have some minor surgery to repair some damage but everything seemed normal after that." Sanjay continued.
What they all didn't know was that everything had not been normal.
The incident had left Dhruv with the inability to maintain a sustained erection.
Because of this he had never looked at a woman before.
That's why he had not had any interest in getting married until Thapki came along.
With Thapki he had genuinely fallen in love, but he had also felt that because she stammered she knew all about shortcomings so would be able to understand his shortcoming too.
When Shradda had claimed that they had had marital relations, Dhruv's denial had been so emphatic because he knew it was impossible because of this problem.
However because he had no recollection of the event and faced with Shradda's absolute conviction he had been swept away mostly because he was hopeful it was true.
He badly wanted to be normal.
