PART TWO

Dhruv had walked out while Ashwin and Sanjay were relating to Shradda what had happened during his childhood.
Now he came back, apparently from one of the store rooms, ladden with Shradda's suitcases.
He opened the closet doors and started removing Shradda's clothes throwing them willy- nilly into the suitcases.
"Dhruv, what are you doing ?" Shradda jumped off the bed and rushed over to Dhruv.
"Packing karo. What do you think? " Dhruv answered without stopping.
Rage seemed to emanate from him in waves such that he could hardly get the words out.
"Why Dhruv, why?" Shradda had dissolved into tears.
Dhruv turned to face her incredulity replacing the constipated face.
"You dare to ask me why? Really Shradda? "
His hands waved in the air in a 'Lord save me from stupid here' motion.
"After this nautak of yours you dare to ask me why? "
Shradda turned to Dadima, getting on her knees , touching her feet and pleading,
"Please Dadima, please make him stop. "
Dadima neatly stepped away and turned her head disgusted not even bothering to deign her with an answer.
Shradda then folded her hands at Bauji,
"Am I not your daughter too like Thapki? Bauji will you let this happen to me?"
"You are nothing like Thapki"
Her eyes roamed over everyone else seeking help, Ashwin, Sanjay, Suman , Preeti but couldn't see help coming from them.
Bihaan?
Never.
Finally she threw herself at Thapki's feet.
"Please, please Thapki don't let this injustice be done to me. He will surely listen to you. You fight all injustices right?"
Bihaan walked over and extricated his wife from Shradda's clutches
"Don't sully my wife with your evil claws"
"Oh don't bother appealing to any of them. They can't stop this. Nothing and noone will stop me today"
"But I love you Dhruv. I love you so much, please please don't do this. "
Dhruv's laugh in response bordered on hysterical.
"You love me? What a ridiculous statement. You love me. Well let me tell you to me you are nothing. Just another betrayer. I don't love you, never have and never will. In fact I hate the sight of you now. Come"
He took her arm in his hand and dragged one of her suitcases with the other hand headed down the stairs.
Her pleading cries fell on deaf ears.
At the door he picked up her suitcase and threw it out of the door then whirled her out like a spinning top.
She fell out of the door on to her hands and knees.
" My lawyer will be in touch tomorrow. Don't fight this divorce. You have no grounds after your shenanigans and you know it"
For a long time she lay there crying, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
An hour and a half ago she had come to this house half believing her husband loved her and now this?
Eventually she got up, picked up her suitcase and headed to her car.
She wiped the tears away and pulled herself together.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Just wait and watch she assured herself.

Bihaan and Thapki rushed to their room, thinking the same thing without even needing to communicate.
Bihaan brought down the suitcase from the almirah and gave it to Thapki who started packing their essential items whilst Bihaan got on the phone.
She had finished packing and was sitting on the bed waiting for him when he finally hung up ,phone still in hand.
"Everything is arranged. "
His look was pensive.
Thapki got up and walked to her husband.
She took his empty hand into both of hers and held it between them squeezing it tight to give him assurance.
"Everything will work out. You'll see. Haan"
She smiled up at him.
He squeezed her hand back
"Truly"
She nodded her head in agreement.
Bihaan hugged his wife to him.
Thapki never lied needlessly and if she said it would all work out, it would.
Finally he released her only to interlock her hand in his then he picked up the suitcase and they walked down the stairs to the front door.
Still with her hand in his he put the suitcase down and together they walked to the temple to seek their deity's blessing.
Lastly, they headed to Dadima's bedroom where they knew everyone would be gathered.
Sure enough everyone except for Dhruv was gathered there.
Silence prevailed at their entrance.
Bauji looked questioningly at Bihaan sensing something was up.
His fears were compounded when Bihaan failed to meet his eyes.
The pair of them headed to Dadima and together bent over to touch her feet.
"Bihaan? " it was a question from Bauji.
Automatically and almost unthinkingly Dadima blessed them.

PART THREE

Next they turned to Bauji.
"Bihaan what is this? " Bauji asked.
"I am sorry Bauji, you know with everything that's happened tonight, Maa will be thrown out and left to fend for herself. I can't let that happen , so I have arranged for a small house for us. Nothing fancy, just enough for Maa, Thapki and myself. Please understand Bauji. "
Bauji had looked away confused as to how he felt.
He was torn up that his most beloved son was leaving him and his home but at the same time proud that he had sufficient forethought to recognise the crisis his mother could fall into.
Noone else had, including himself.
He placed a light hand on his son's and daughter in law's heads and they got up tears glistening in their eyes.
Quickly Thapki and Bihaan rushed out before they could change their minds.
Suman and Preeti started bawling loudly.
Both their husbands weren't too far from shedding tears either.
Everything seemed to be falling apart.
They looked at Dadima and Bauji who returned their looks with helpless ones themselves, tears falling down their cheeks too.

Bihaan installed his wife in an auto and he himself rushed to Shradda's maayka on his motorbike.
Thapki would follow him in the auto and pick up Maa but it was more imperative for him to get to Maa before or at the same time as Shradda to prevent her from harming Maa.
Thankfully for him traffic was heavy so Shradda was delayed but he managed to weave his way through it and got to Shradda's maayka before she did.
There was hardly anything for Maa to pack so they were waiting outside with her small valise when Shradda's car came screeching into the driveway.
Shradda had been yelling at the driver to get her to her maayka as quickly as possible, the sooner to get to Vasundhra and cause her untold pain and suffering.
To describe the feeling she had at the sight that met her upon her arrival as disappointment was the biggest understatement ever.
Bihaan stood in the driveway with a protective arm wrapped around his Maa's shoulder.
His look at Shradda was all challenge.
She wanted to say so much but thought the person she was dealing with would have no qualms about harming her if she crossed the line so she gritted her teeth.
"Oh good, you are here. You have saved me the trouble of throwing her out."
Bihaan gave her a wry smile as at that moment Thapki's auto drove up to them.
There was so much he wanted to say to Shradda too but all in due course.
Thapki stepped out of the auto and together with Bihaan helped Maa inside.
Bihaan then got on his motorbike and rode ahead of the auto directing it to their new home.

Shradda stepped into the house unable to control her rage.
She could feel her psychopathic tendencies coming back full force.
Ever since she was a little girl her father had been worried about her strange behaviour.
His worry increased even more when she took to killing animals needlessly.
At first it was small things, he found her plucking off the wings of flies, cockroaches, crickets, locusts, etc.
Then she graduated to mice and rabbits first cutting off their tails then their legs.
When he enquired as to why all she said was because she wanted to see the level of pain they could withstand.
When cats and dogs would disappear at the army bases they were stationed at suddenly, Shradda' s father , Sinha, had his suspicions as to who was responsible.
She never seemed to have a single friend.
In fact most children were afraid of her and avoided her like the plague.
The last straw was when Shradda was caught red handed trying to kill one of the senior army officers daughter after the daughter had made an innocent comment about Shradda's hair.
Sinha was forced to resign from the army to avoid the ensuing scandal and it was recommended that Shradda see a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist diagnosed Shradda with acute psychosis alledging she was a psychopath in the making and it wouldn't take much to tip her over the edge.
He prescribed pills which she was meant to take religiously.
Fortunately for them because they had been living and moving around on army bases from the time Shradda was young the scandals never reached the general public.
There was no end to Sinha's relief when Shradda's marriage proposal came from Vasundara Pandey.
He eagerly accepted the proposal hoping marriage would tame and stabilise her.
Unbeknownst to him though Shradda had stopped taking her pills when she got married.
She alledged they turned her into a zombie draining the life and soul out of her.
Eventually her psychopathic tendencies started manifesting themselves once again hence her murder attempts on both Thapki and Vasundhra.
Right now once again she was feeling murderous.
She went into the kitchen and started breaking everything in sight, smashing plates, glasses, everything.
She took a knife out her father's kitchen drawers and began ripping the upholstery , the curtains and everything that could be cut up.
Eventually tired and the rage dissipated somewhat she dissolved into tears huddled in the corner of the living room.
Sinha walked into his house to find total carnage.
Everything that could be broken was lying shattered and everything that could be cut up was lying in shreds.
He didn't even have to think to know who was responsible and it was confirmed when he found her huddled into a ball in the corner.
"What's happened my poor darling? "
"It's Dhruv papa, he is divorcing me."

PART FOUR

Thapki explained everything that had happened to Vasundhra on their way to their new house.
Vasundhra was devastated, she couldn't believe it
How they had all been taken in.
Worse, she was the one who had brought that reprehensible woman into her family and look at what had happened.
Her family was no longer intact.
She cursed herself so much.
How could one little prejudice on her part cause so much havoc?
Up ahead Bihaan indicated and turned into the driveway of their new house.
From the outside it was a modest little house that looked neat and tidy.
The door opened suddenly and Bihaan's three best friends stood at the doorway one even holding an aarti plate.
Thapki recognised them from the day they had come to watch the cricket game and she had pretended to drink after she had swapped all the bottles of alcohol with tulsi.
Bihaan paid the auto and helped his wife and mom to the door.
"Wait," Vasundhra stopped Bihaan's friend from doing the aarti.
"Let me do it. Let me welcome my son and bahu to their new house."
She took the plate and proceeded to do the aarti.
After having been applied tilak , Bihaan and Thapki stepped into their new house together.
How it looked on the outside was reflected on the inside too.
It wasn't big but it was bright and neat and clean.
Thapki looked at her husband and gave a little nod at his enquiring look.
"Its beautiful, " she whispered.
She walked to the kitchen to survey it.
It was small but all the amenities were there.
New plates and cooking utensils were laid on the kitchen counter still in their wrappers.
By the sink, a carton full of fresh fruit and vegetables stood along with other daily food rations.
"Bhabhi , I am sorry we haven't been able to put together a lot at such notice but we promise we will get you all else you need tomorrow. "
"You've done brilliantly, thank you so much."
The boys shyly turned away and headed towards the exit.
Bihaan let them out and locked the door.
"So, what do you really think? Anything you don't like we can change straight away. "
She turned to Bihaan with shining eyes,
"Like I said , Bihaan its beautiful. Our own little house. "
She clapped her hands with excitement.
Her husband stepped closer to her.
"Well , is that the way to express happiness or gratitude? "
He pulled her into his arms.
"Bihaan, Maa."
"Maa has gone to bed already. Besides she will understand.
"Well, how about it Mrs Thapki Bihaan Pandey? "
To answer his question she stood on tippy-toes , closed her eyes and puckered her lips in anticipation.
Bihaan tilted his head until he was only millimetres away from her lips but didn't put his lips on hers yet.
He stood admiring the incredible beauty that was his wife.
Finally when her long lashes swept open to see why he was taking so long did he press his lips on hers.
She could hear the whistling of blood rushing to her head and the thudding of her heart when he finally released her.
"I promise I will make love to you on every inch of this house but for today lets start in the bedroom. "
Having said so he picked her up in his arms and headed that way.

After throwing Shradda out, Dhruv had gone back to his room and lay on top of his bed fully clothed , trying to calm himself down.
So much had happened in the last few days if he thought more about it he would go crazy.
After a long while and a lot of effort his equanimity returned back to him.
He got up and headed towards his Dadima's room like everyone else knowing that is probably where everyone was gathered.
Before he could knock and enter, he heard Bihaan and Thapki seeking Bauji's blessing and telling everyone they would be leaving Pandey Nivaas.
Dhruv stood shocked.
His reason for waking up every day, Thapki, would no longer be there anymore.
At first he thought of making some excuse to stop them, then his brain engaged into gear.
Let them go.
Quickly he walked away from Dadima's room and back to his own room before they could see him.
It was now time to break them apart.
Thapki might have given Bihaan a chance but she didn't love him.
She had told him so herself.
Even if she had changed her mind why then was she not wearing those basics of adornments that every dharam patni wore for her husband.
She wore no sindoor or mangalsutra for Bihaan therefore couldn't have accepted him.
Besides they were as different as different could ever get.
Chalk and cheese.
Plus Thapki loved him. Dhruv
If he hadn't been able to get over her after all this time how else could she have got over him and that too for Bihaan.
No effing way.
He had to make a plan to break them up and he knew just the person to help him.
First of all though, he had to get rid of Shradda.
Thapki would never come to him with him still married.
He knew that about her pretty well.
He now phoned his lawyer outlining his requirements and they made an appointment for the next day.
