Innovative reality shows hit small screen
Buzz up!
Reality television in India has always been popular because you get to see the true colours of your favourite television or movie star. You realise that they are as human as we are and are susceptible to losing their tempers, stressing out, joking, laughing, getting charged up or even doing something as normal as going for a run. Over the years, reality shows have become an integral part of Indian television and come 2011, three more shows are going to hit our screens. These are Zor Ka Jhatka, Wife Bina Life, Maa Exchange and Dance India Dance Doubles. We speak to TV stars and find out which of these shows they are excited about.

Nupur aka Reshmi Ghosh
Which reality show are you looking forward to as a viewer?
Definitely Wife Bina Life because men are nothing without women. It would be interesting to watch how they handle tasks that women handle so effortlessly.

Given a chance which of these would you participate in?
I think you have already got a clue but besides Wife Bina Life I would also choose Zor Ka Jhatka. Its not because SRK is hosting it but because of the tasks.

What do you think of the concept of these shows?
The concepts are great. Its so different from the regular stuff. Some years back Nach Baliye was a hit and everyone started similar shows. It is good to see new ideas coming up.

Have you seen the international versions of any of these shows?
The day I get the time I will definitely watch them.

'Hotseat'-SUPRIYA SHUKLA

Supriya Shukla

Recently in New Delhi for her school reunion function, who also originally belongs with saadi Dilli, the noted actor of Parineeta, Lage Raho Munnabhai and daily soap ' Tere Liye, SUPRIYA SHUKLA, got candid with KARTIKEY AGGARWAL about her roles, debut, family, aspirations and more. Excerpts from the interview:

When did you settle in Mumbai, when you got your first break? How did it

come to you?

I got married and shifted to Mumbai for more than a decade now, but my first break actually happened in Delhi itself. I was in school (Gyan Bharti School, Saket), in class 9th when I had done a serial on DD Metro, and interestingly my dramatics teacher was also a co-writer to it, so I was chosen from school as I used to do lead roles in dramatics.

My talent got more shape and picture when I got admission in LSR [Lady Sri Ram College]. This is around 1993-94, when we used to compete against colleges at various fests, and LSR used to have many renowned persons as Guests, I started getting offers to anchor their projects and as speaker in their telefilms.

It was given to me
and came just like a jerk.
(Laughs)

Around the time I got married, I had a friend who used to work with Pradeep Sarkar in Delhi, and I started working in commercials with him. When dada [Pradeep Sarkar] shifted to Mumbai, he was planning a feature film. By that time I was expecting my 2nd baby and I gained a lot of weight, and this is then when he surprised me by telling not to lose weight as I was to play a role in Parineeta. And the rest is history!

Your role as bubbly Bhabhi from Parineeta is well remembered. What is the role that is closest to your heart?

After Parineeta, I got a bonanza of roles. I did Raju Hirani's 'Lage Raho'', Rituparna Ghosh's Sunglass and so on, Do Dooni Char being the latest one. However, as you say, the first baby is always closest to the heart, so Parineeta would always have that special place with me. It was a first complete feature film for me.

You moved from films to televisions. How far was it planned? And what are the current roles that you are playing.

It just came to me. It was given to me and came just like a jerk. (Laughs) I was offered a negative female character for a Zee project, 'Rakhi'. I got amused by it because so far everybody found me too bubbly to be offered a non-positive role, and this made me thrillingly grab it. My role had a negative shade in terms of the deeds of the character which she does for the sake of her brother against everybody else.

Currently, I'm very much packed with 'Tere Liye' on Star Plus, which air at 10 pm primetime. I play the character of 'Lahoni'. The serial is based on a Bengali scene, which makes it an interesting affair for me.

"Jab acting acting naa lage
toh woh acting hai."

What about the roles you have to play off the screen? How far is your family able to manage with your shooting schedules?

I'm a mother of two daughters, the elder one study in class 9th and the younger one, Damya, is in 3rd. My husband, mother-in-law and kids, all are very supportive. They were equally supportive and encouraging when I told them that I want to keep working with ads at least once or twice a month, and even now. However, I don't shoot beyond certain hours and keep my family time very much intact.

What type of roles do you aspire in future? Don't you want to appear in any lead roles?

Look, there's no such role that aspires you basically, it's you who makes your role yourself. 'Just put yourself in it so much that it looks so natural. Jab acting acting naa lage toh woh acting hai.' Always, I've done that, followed that and I'm learning it every day. Any role that comes to me I perform it dedicatedly. The capacity of power to attract audience to the role is the acting and role I believe in.

I've done lead roles throughout my school and college life in dramatics. But now, in films, I never wanted to have any lead roles.

Lastly, who have been your role model and the person who's been behind what you are?

Talking about role-models, not any actor definitely. But I really thank my school principal, Mr MN Kapoor, who appreciated me always; Mrs Mishra, in the co-curricular dept, who always helped and encouraged me, whether it was school or functions at my home. Lastly, my husband and my children, who are really proud of me; this is what makes me what I'm today.

(As told to KARTIKEY AGGARWAL)

Anurag,Taani and Robindo share their success mantra

Tere Liye is reaping the rewards for the hard work put in by the cast and crew and it's given tough competition to rival shows like Uttaran, Sanjog Se Bani Sangini. Anurag and Taani, who are the lead of the show, share with us the secret of the show's success.

They say that the off-screen camaraderie between the actors has made the show a success.

Anurag is happy with the overall performance of the show. "I'm happy that my fans love the performance of all the actors. I just came to know that we're doing very well in the 10 pm slot. We've given competition to popular shows like Uttaran. I'm sure that we'll continue doing well, as the upcoming storyline has an interesting plot," he says.

He further adds that the success of the show is because of the off screen friendship between the actors. "All of us get along and my co-stars are very nice people. We work well together." On his onscreen Jodi with Taani, he says, "I'm glad that the fans love the Anurag-Taani Jodi. Keep watching and supporting us."

Anupriya Kapoor, who plays Taani admits that she signed the show because she knew that it would rule the 10 pm roost. "I want to thank the viewers for believing in our show and making this moment special," she says, adding that the reality of the show is what has made it a welcome change for the viewers.

She commented some of her fans:
Shreejashi: I'm from Kerala, I like this show very much...also I learned Hindi by seeing STAR Plus.
Taani: It's amazing that you learnt Hindi by watching Star Plus. Thank you for watching the show. It feels great to interact with fans. I hope we will get your support for with our chemistry.

Robindo, who has a new look on the show, also expressed his happiness at the show's success. He said, "When there is a good story and a bunch of good actors, the show is bound to be a hit. I knew that the show was special and I would like to thank the audience for their support."

For Robindo this message is from london246
Anonymous: So is Robi coming back as a negative character or positive. I think that we have had enough negative characters and the last thing we need is Robi being negative!!!!!!!!!!!
Robindo: It's nice to hear that people haven't forgotten about me and I just want the audience to watch my entry."

Vikas Goopta, the creative head of the show says that the show is about power-packed performances. "I'm glad that the audience has loved the show, especially the Taani-Anurag love story. Ekta Kapoor is the master of love stories and she has proved yet again that she knows how to woo the viewer."

January 13, 2011: Star Plus' popular show 'Tere Liye' is going to bring another twist in the coming episodes as Ritesh has already sent Anurag behind the bars. He has made a cunning plot against Anurag and Taani by blaming him for the death of Gulabo.

Taani is now desperate to save Anurag and approaches Ritesh with the request of saving him. But, as we all know Ritesh hates Anurag, he will never agree to do that. He wants to see Anurag behind bars for his entire life. Interestingly, Ritesh agrees to help Taani but puts a strange condition for that. He wants Taani to become mother of his kids, who love her so much and she also adores them.

Now, Taani is in a dilemma because she wants to save Anurag at any cost but that will spoil her all life. If she agrees to Ritesh's proposal then she will have to marry him as soon as Anurag is out of jail. Ritesh knows that Taani is the only girl, who will love his and Ananya's kids like their own mother and thats why he has put this condition. This will also serve his purpose to take revenge from Anurag, who is in deep love with Taani.

In the coming episodes, it will be interesting to see if Taani accepts Ritesh's proposal and sacrifices her love to save Anu's life. If Taani accepts the proposal, how Anurag and the entire family will react to her decision of marrying Ritesh? Will they understand her plight or she will be misunderstood?

Don't forget to tune to Star Plus at 10 pm from Monday to Friday to catch the latest developments.
