Subject of Analysis: The First Promo
Analysis:
An advertisement that is released of any product is always the most important. After all it is the ultimate deciding factor that will determine if the product is worth the investment.
Similarly, the initial promo that has been released for the show had to be equally important and showcase the premise of the show so that the audience knows what to expect.
The very first location that is used for the show is a gurdwara. It is highly symbolic as the backdrop has been revealed to be Sikhism. Nowadays, there have been many shows on television that have a Sikh backdrop but it is usually sidelined and not given much importance. The only indication that the audience usually gets of the characters being Sikh is when the elderly are praying or they let slip, "Wahe Guru". But other than that, there is no presentation of them being a Sikh.
This show however, has included Sikhism not only in the character's religious life, but in every aspect of their being. Their home, their beliefs, their language and diction - it all points to Sikhism.
Personally, this is a plus factor as Sikhism is finally being presented in a positive light. Sikhism exists in real life and should be presented as such rather than being used as a character trait.
The prayer that is being heard in the background, "Ik onkar" is one of the most important prayers in Sikhism as it is said to be the very first composition that was uttered by Guru Nanak Dev ji. As such it has been considered to be the founding block that all of Sikhism is built upon.
Due to the fact that this prayer is placed in the very beginning of the Sikh scripture, it is fitting that this same prayer is heard at the very beginning of the show. It is in a way blessing not only the characters within the fictional world, but also the show in the real world, for future success.
The interaction between Yuvi and Twinkle just within the promo is highly interesting.
We can see Twinkle apologizing and regretting her actions of lying to her mom so that she can meet Yuvi. But she's not just apologizing for herself, she's also sincerely apologizing on Yuvi's behalf.
Yuvi has no problem in lying and only apologizes when Twinkle nudges him. But even then, his apology didn't seem all that sincere.
The next bit, where Twinkle talks about their mothers being each other's worst enemies, Yuvi is seen following Twinkle with his eyes closed. This observation is going to be biased as I now know that Yuvi's love for Twinkle is simply a farce. But from within the perspective of the promo alone, he is seen following blindly; heeding the words of hatred. It is only when he bumps into Twinkle that he wakens up and sees what is before him. Perhaps an indication of what he might lose once he wakes up from being brainwashed?
The moment that Twinkle finishes her wish of being one with Yuvi, Anita's voice is overheard stating, "Stay within your limits." Anita, being Yuvi's mother, is the antagonist in Leela's life and would pretty much do anything to harm her - even hurt Twinkle. The crisp and clear manner in which Anita introduced herself, "Stay within your limits. My name is Anita Luthra," displays a lot of power and confidence. She is a force that should not be reckoned with nor taken so lightly.
In the final moments, Twinkle is shown being fed up of the fight whereas Yuvi seems passive. Twinkle's reaction towards her mother's animosity indicates that she no longer seems to take it all too seriously. They have been fighting for so long that no matter what they say, it doesn't really seem to phase her. Yes, their fights are coming in the way of her being with Yuvi, but it seems comical. It's as if that spoken in the right manner, they will be able to convince their mothers to end their fight. Yuvi, especially, seems not as eager to take action in the fight as Twinkle is. She had an immediate reaction when she heard Anita and also when the two cars drove away. Yuvi was merely there to show his support when she was looking for one. But it did not seem as if he was willing to stand by her on his own.
All in all, the first promo was light, comical and full of energy. The Sikh backdrop is one of the things that has me highly intrigued for sure. Apart from that Twinkle and Yuvi's interactions were cute and the way the mothers were fighting even more so.
