Chapter 1

"If ever in life you need me just close your eyes I'll be there next to you" his words rung in her ears.

"You lied to me Laksh I need you here right now I closed my eyes too. Please come back" Swara was wailing loudly standing on the same bridge where it all started five years ago.

"Hey you don't stand on the edge" A handsome guy, dressed in blue denims and yellow t-shirt, around the same age as her pulled her back "Pagal ho kya? Look its high tide you should not stand near this bridge it is not safe"

Swara's couldn't believe her eyes he was standing in front of her. "Laksh" she whispered touching the boy's face ever so tenderly. A serene smile on her face she fainted.

"Oh shit ye kya musibat hai!"He lifted the girl and brought her back near the temple. He checked her forehead for fever and found it to be at normal temperature. He looked around and realised she had a bottle of water in her bag. He took it out and sprinkled some water on her face. Normally the person would wake up but Swara didn't. It was almost like her body refused to come back to reality.

The man took her bag and fiddled with the chain in a dilemma. He finally opened it and looked for her phone which didn't take much effort. He rummaged through her contacts and dailed the number that read Maa'. The phone rang and on second ring a lady picked up the call. "Hello?"

"Yeah hi this is Sanskar. May I know who I'm speaking with and your daughter's name?" He spoke into the phone in a very hesitant voice.

"Eh Sanskar! Tumne meri beti ka phone kyu chori kiya?" She accused him very heatedly. "Aur upar se besharam ke tarah call karke puchte ho!"

"Are nai nai Aunty I've not stolen your daughter's phone. Actually I'm here near the bridge at Durga Maa's Mandir and she has fainted. So I called you from her phone because I think you must be her mother right? Your contact name reads Maa." He explained.

"Kya! Yeh Swaru bhi na kya zaroorat thi aaj waha jaane ki paagal hai hai ladki, ab main kya karu? Swara ke papa bhi nai hai ghar pe" Swara's mother starts hyperventilating.

"Aunty Calm down, Breath in, Breath out" Sanskar replied himself demonstrating the same, listening to the lady who was panicking so much on the phone "I'll drop her home just tell me where you stay and arrange for a doctor immediately, she might be cold she is not looking very good"

"Ok beta I'll arrange for the same. Come soon" She gave him the address and disconnected the call and went to call the doctor.

Here Sanskar lifted Swara's limp body and carried her to his car. As they drove to her place he took in her features she looked really pale in contrast to the black hair framing her face. Her face had a small frown which looked like it had been there for a while.

Sharmishtha was just glad her daughter was safe in safe hands now. She had an inkling why Swara must've been there at the bridge. She was very thankful to this young man for bringing her daughter safe back home.

When they reached her house he got out of the car he went to the other side of the car to open the door and lift her again kicking the door close. There he saw her mother who was waiting for them rush to him. Her mother ushered them inside to Swara's bedroom and he laid Swara on the bed. She then asked the doctor who had already arrived to attend to her while they waited outside he asked Sanskar a few prelimnary questions and asked him to step aside to let him check on Swara. As soon as they were out in the living room Swara's mother started firing question after question at Sanskar.

He took a deep breath and started the story from the start, "Aunty I was going from near there just to see the huge waves crashing and then I saw your daughter, Swara?"He asked as if to confirm the name and seeing her nod affirmatively he continued "She was standing at the other end of the bridge which is more dangerous and saying something or wailing something so I asked her what she was doing there. She saw me and then fainted" He recollected the exact incidents from the evening. "I think she was hallucinating and thought me to be some Laksh. She even called me by that name actually"

"Kya! But woh toh mar chukka hai"Her mother said and then looked like she was in deep thought.

"Oh" Sanskar was at loss of words listening to her. In all the confusion just as the doctor stepped out Sanskar was very curious to know what had just happened to the girl and rushed to him, "Hey Doc! What happened to her? She fainted and then when I tried to wake her she wouldn't."

The Doctor who was Swara's family doctor and well aware of her condition smiled at him before replying "Son, she fainted out of some kind of shock. She wouldn't wake up because after the trauma she has been in recently I guess her body kind of gave up and froze. She is stable for now but the full impact of it can only be determined once she wakes up. She can either be improving or take a turn for the worse."

For a person who just helped out a stranger, trying to process this bit of information is a lot. Sanskar sat on the nearest chair and looked at Swara's mother to have a word with the doctor but she was too busy trying to call someone. He sighed and took it upon himself to ask the doctor whether any particular medicine or care should be given to Swara.

"Right now I can't really figure out the intensity of the damage if at all. I've given her an injection she should wake up in a couple of hours. Ask Sharmishtha to give me a call if anything is wrong." He said pointing to Swara's mom.

Sanskar nodded his head affirmatively, paid the doctors fees and bade him a good bye. Sharmishtha hurried to keep the phone down but Sanskar signalled her not to rush. She went on to ask Sanskar what the Doctor said. Sanskar narrated the entire gloomy prognosis given by the doctor.

Sharmishtha did not understand whether to thank god that her daughter was safe at home now or complain to him and question why such a path filled with obstacle was paved specially for her daughter who would never even hurt a fly. Tears filled her eyes as she listened to Sanskar. "Thank you Sanskar. I really I'm very grateful to you that you chose to help Swara today. I don't even want to imagine what would have happened had you not seen or helped her. I just spoke to her father he should be here soon."

"I'm sorry aunty I'm not so good with tears. Please don't cry"Sanskar felt bad for the lady he offered her his handkerchief to wipe the tears that were slowly making their way on her cheeks.

Sharmishtha smiled at him through her tears wiping them away, "I'm such a bad host I didn't even ask you a customary would you like a cup of tea or coffee'"

Sanskar smiled at the old lady's effort to change the subject subtly. He could see the tears of pain in her eyes and did not wish to impose further. He simply smiled at her. "It's ok aunty, I'll take your leave now as it is it's getting late my mom will start calling me to check my whereabouts."

Sharmishtha smiled and shook hands with him as he got up to leave. "I can't thank you enough"

"You're welcome aunty. Do call me if you ever need my help okay? " he told her forwardin his card and left.
