I am not sure I agree with you that Ragini wasn't an established character. She was a real goody goody types and her turning negative was a shocking twist. I think the problem is that the success of that has made them think they can keep repeating the mind boggling twists. In this way, they're giving things to all fans they don't like. Swasanians don't want bhabhi-devar confusing messages, Ragini fans don't want her evil, Sanskaar fans want someone to finally give him his due and now Lakshya fans will not like this butchering of his character! I differ slightly in this, in that I don't think any of the characters are really being butchered. What is actually being shown is an amplified aspects of their own character. Each one of us has good and bad sides. Each one is capable of great good and great bad. When we are faced with a choice, the ones who are strong, make a conscious choice to stay on the side of good despite the benefits that they may perceive of being bad.
Ragini that we see today is a product of that choice and of situations thrown to her by the actions of those around her - be it Dadi, Shekhar, Shomi, Swara, Laksh and Sanskar. She chose to go with the bad for the benefits. She isn't delusional in this. She knows what is doing is wrong and bad. She, I feel, has reached a stage where she is tired of the boundaries placed on her and what is expected of her in terms of being good always ...and despite what she goes through. Her supposed view that those she cares about is that they don't want to understand what she has been through on the reason of the choices. So she is out to prove her situation and pay them back, knowing fully well that she will burn her life in it. She is on her own life destruction mission as much as theirs. But the good Ragini is still in her, so I hope she comes across situations which help her not be focused on only this anger dimension and get her whole self back. But I don't think it will happen until her anger is extinguished.
Lucky on the other hand, as many have said, can be easily swayed. He has been swayed by Ragini before into getting SwaSan married so this is nothing new. He is someone who has had everything given to him before he asked it. Nothing was out of reach for him. He isn't used to that and he isn't used to fighting hard and long and patiently for what he wants. In all of the cases before, he has gotten it with minimal struggle and fairly quickly - even Swara's love though he has to wait some time, it wasn't really a whole lot long. He is also used to having others bail him out when he is stuck, be it Shomi and her fainting, Ragini cancelling the engagement earlier for her parents etc. Ragini saying that she repents now and wants to help him back with Swara will not be questioned much by him because he has someone helping him with the fight. When he gets swayed, he gets emotional and acts before he thinks. And at the time, he doesnt evaluate if what he is doing is right or wrong. He usually realised it only much later in the day and then repents. He is someone who deep down is good at heart, but when emotional he forgets his sense of right and wrong - or can be made to forget it and act. Ragini knows this and is going to play on this.
But you are right, this is role reversal at its best.
The more closer SwaSan get, the more desperate Laksh will be and the more easy it will be for Ragini to sway him. But the first domino has fallen, there is no turning back now.
