Maybe he HAS to believe Rags. For if he was to believe Swasan , how on earth will he be able to live with himself. He will be totally destroyed.
So maybe,he is just escaping into the world that Ragini has created for him. He has done a grave wrong against the woman he loved and if he was to find out his mistakes , he will NEVER be able to rectify them.
So maybe for his own mental health, he has to believe the dirty Rag.
