Guys i can only do one chapter a day cos of kids but will try to do more. but once I'm back to work in nyc in 2 weeks may not be able to do that either. but i will finish this story cos i know the ending so just bare with me!
CHAPTER 3
Ragini had never seen Laksh before they got engaged. Her dadima had told her that he was the most handsome boy on Earth, she'd been skeptical then but when she saw him for the first time she knew it to be true. And she thought him perfect in every way, thus she ignored the accusations Swara made at him, she ignored his ignorance of her, she ignored his desire to be close to Swara, she ignored his rejections, his love for Swara, Swara's love for him, Swara's goodness, his fathers confidence on Swara and cruelty towards her, his rejection after marriage, his refusal to acknowledge her...she smiled and she ignored, because she had what she wanted, sindoor of his name shone on her forehead and his namesake mangal sutra dangled on her neck, but that's what it was, a namesake, just as she was a namesake. She ran away from her parents' room trying to ignore what she'd heard, but that one damned word kept on playing in her head over and over- pregnant pregnant pregnant and then she couldn't ignore it anymore. Swara had NO right to do this to her, trick her over and over. She had even prepared herself and come to terms with Swara being in Laksh's bed, she was thewife afterall, how long would he stay with her, his family and society would force him to come back to her one day. But Swara has no right to carry Laksh's child. How could she?!? That was her right, her right only, SHE WAS HIS WIFE IN THE EYES OF SOCIETY AND GOD! No, she wouldn't let Swara have this one. She could have everything else, but this was her right. Without thinking it through she marched towards Swara's room to find her sitting on her bed doing nothing. It was as if she was a doll, still, without any senses or emotions. She turned around to face Ragini.
R: Hi Swara, kaisi hon?
Swara kept on staring at her with a blank face, as if she hadn't heard anything Ragini had said.
R: Kya baat hain Swara? Tumne humein nahi pehchana? Hum tumhari behen. Tum toh bade bade dava karti thi k tum humse sabse zyaada pyaar karti ho. Hum tumhari family hain, tum humare liye koi bhi sacrifice kar sakhti hon. Toh hum aab tumse sacrifice mangte hain, tumhare bacche ki sacrifice mangte hain tumse swara.
She moves her hands to Swara's shoulders and turns her around.
R: Dogi na humein yeh sacrifice? Bolo Swara. Bolo! KUCH TO BOLO!!!! MAIN LAKSH KI PATNI HOON! MAIN!! UNKE BACCHE KO ISS DUNIYA MEIN LANE KA HAQ SIRF HUMEIN HAIN SWARA! HUMARI BEHEN HOKE TUM AISA KAISE KAR SAKHTI HON?
Swara doesn't react, doesn't even blink to Ragini's screams. Frustrated Ragini picks up a glass and throws it on the floor.
R: AISA NAHI HO SAKHTA!
L: Bas karo yeh tamasha.
As soon as Laksh entered the room, Swara sparked up.
S: Lucky. Tum aagaye.
Laksh walks over to Swara and takes a seat on the bed. He holds her face in his hands to make sure shes ok.
L: Shona tum thik hona?
Swara nods.
R: Ji woh hum...yeh sab...Lakshji yeh kya...
Laksh pays no heed to her ramblings.
L: Shona tumhe aur baby ko bhuk lagi hain na, main khana le aayi hoon, abhi paros ti hoon, thik hain?
S: Hmmm...Laksh yeh kaun hain?
L: Koi nahi Shona.
R: Laksh yeh aap kya bol rahe hain? Hum aapki patni hain!
L: Aur Shona meri zindagi ke saath saath mere bacche ki ma bhi.
R: Ai..aisa...kaise?
Laksh gets up and takes the two unbroken glasses and throws them both on the floor in succession, earning a yelp from both Swara and Ragini.
L: Ragini tumne ek saach chikh chikh ke kaha aur usse sabit karne k liye glass bhi toda. Toh maine ek saach kaha aur do glass todh diye. Iska matlab mera saach tumse do guna bara hain?
He diverts his attention back to Swara.
L: Sorry Shona, tumhe darane k liye.
S: Bohut...loud...loud tha. Main ghabrai nahi, bas...shock laga.
L: Meri bahadur sherni, tujhe kaise darr lagega, tu toh sabko darati hain. (he laughs and swara gives a hint of a smile). Main huamre liye khana paros deti hoon.
He gets up to serve the food and notices Ragini still standing there, looking at them, silent tears of devastation falling down her face. He walks over to the table where he kept the food and starts serving.
L: Tum abhi tak gaye nahi? Dekho ragini cheekhne chillane se saach nahi badlega. Nahi yeh saach badlega ki samaj k samne, chahe jaise bhi ho, maine tumhare saath shaadi k saare reet nibhaye hain, aur nahi yeh k swara aur mujhe baccha hone wala hain. Par mere liye humari shaadi sirf ek reet tha. Phere mein khaye huye kasme rasme sab kuch swara k liye tha. Aur main woh kasme zaroor nibhaungi, swara ke saath.
R: Laksh hum aapke patni hain! Aisa kaise maanle hum yeh sab. Hum bhi insaan hain! Dard humein bhi hota hain. Humne maan se aapko pati mana hain. Aap humse aise...humari bakaida shaadi huyi hain.
L: Toh kya maine kaha tha shaadi karne? Hah. Dekho Ragini maine kab mana kiya k humari shaadi huyi hain. Main toh bas yeh keh raha hoon k mere liye uss reet ki aur uss samaj ki koi mahatva nahi hain. Aur main aisa hi hoon, thoda moody, yeh baat Swara ko pata tha aur who mujhe aisehi pyaar karti thi, toh agar tumhe meri patni banke rehna hain toh yeh baat tumhe bhi manzoor honi chahiye. mere dil main jo aata hain wohi main karta hoon. Aur main abhi baata deta hoon, na toh main tumhare saath reh sakhta hoon, na tumhare saath soh sakhta hoon, na tumhe bacche de sakhta hoon aur nahi koi khushi. Par haan, meri ma tumhe bohut pasand karti hain, toh ek saas ka pyaar aur mera karma, agar tum waha rehna chahti hon, toh woh main tumhe de sakhta hoon. I don't mind. Par kisi bhi zabardasti k rishte ko nibhana mere liye possible nahi hain.
R: Aap chahe ya na chahe Laksh, aapko humare paas aana hi hoga, aaj nahi toh kaal ye samaj, aapka parivaar aur humara pyaar aapko majboor kar dega humare paas aneke liye.
Finally she leaves the room and decides to go back to the Maheshwari Mansion, without Laksh, cos she couldn't bare it, she couldn't bear to look at him, at his indifference, but most of all at his love.
After Ragini leaves, Laksh serves the food for himself and Swara.
L: Yeh lo Shona, khana khalo. Phir tumhe naha ke sona bhi hain na?
S: Lucky woh ladki kaun thi? Aur who tumse aise baat...aur woh tumhari patn...
Laksh could see Swara visibly agitated and starting to get worked up.
L: Shona...meri taraf dekho, koi nahi thi, thodi si pagal hain isi liye behki behki baatein kar rahi thi. Thik hain?
S: Pakka?
L: Pakka baba! Tumhe mujhpe yakeen hain na? (swara nods) Toh phir saab kuch thik hojayega. Tum bas khana khao.
Just as they start eating Shomi come into Swara's room calling for Laksh.
SH: Laksh woh...Shona, tum log yaha khana kyun kharahe hon? Who bhi iss waqt?
L: Woh ma Shona ko bhook lagi thi.
SH: Kya? Shona tujhe saach much bhook...(she has tears of happiness in her eyes) accha thik hain tum dono khana khao phir Laksh mujhe tumse thodi der k liye baat karni hain.
Laksh nods and Shomi leaves them be.
HALF HOUR LATER IN SHEKHAR SHOMI'S ROOM.
Laksh enters the room to see Shomi's stuff packed up.
L: Ma yeh sab kya hain? Aap kaha ja rahi hain?
SH: Laksh main aur Shona Dida k ghar shift ho rahe hain.
L: Dida k ghar lekin kyun?
SH: Pehle tum batao Ragini yaha se chali kyun gayi?
L: Woh...usse Swara ki pregnancy k bare mein pata chaal gaya.
SH: Kya? Kaise? Tumne usse bataya kyun?
L: Ma maine usse kuch nahi kaha. Usne Shona k room mein itna tamasha kiya, glass todh diya, aapne kuch nahi suna?
SK: Kya?!? Usne Swara k saath...humein yakeen nahi hota k yeh wohi ragini hain jisse kisika bhi daard bardasht nahi hoti thi. Par usse pata kaise chala?
SH: Usne zaroor humari baatein sun li thi Shekhar. Isi liye main ghar chodna chahti thi, agar usne Laksh ke gharwalo ko sab kuch bata diya toh hum kya karenge?
L: Ma woh kisi ko kuch nahi kahegi.
SH: Yeh baat tum itni confidence se kaise keh sakhte ho?
L: Kyunki Ragini mein saachayi maan ne ki himmat nahi hain. Agar hoti toh yeh sab nahi karti. Usse lagta hain k gharwale aur samaaj ka darr mujhe iss bacche ko apnane rokega.
SH: toh kya woh galat sochti hain?
Laksh looks at Shomi shocked.
L: Matlab...ma aap yeh kya keh rahi hain.
SH: Dekho Laksh, beta mujhe pata hain k jitna galaat meri beti k saath huyi hain, utnahi galat tumhare saath bhi huwa hain. Par iss kisse ko humein yahi khatam karna hoga. Sachayi abhi yahi hain k tum Ragini ki pati hon, aur humein yeh manke apna faisla le na hoga.
L: Ma?!?
SH: Dekho Laksh maine apne zindagi mein bohut dhakke khaye hain. Bohut duniya dekhi hain. Apne pyaar ki haato mili zillat ki zindagi jee li. Thik bhi tha, main thi careless, aur uski sazaa mujhe mili, par wohi sazaa meri zindagi ki sabse bari vardan ban gayi. Par meri baachi; bin baap ki aulad aur najayaz shabd sunte huye swara ka bachpan beeth gaya, uski ma k izzat aur khushi k liye larte uski jawani aagayi, phir usse tum mile aur jawani k josh mein usne bhi wahi kardi jo uske ma ne ki thi, phir kya huwa? Jin logo k liye meri betein mar mitne ko tayyar thi unhone usse dhoka diya. Use apni bahaduri aur acchayi k badle yeh patthar jaisi zindagi mili. (tears keep a steady stream down Shomi's eyes, Shekhar keeps his head down in shame whilst Laksh stands there suddenly feeling the weight of the world on his lungs preventing him from breathing) Laksh main nahi chahti mere ghar mein ek aur Swara ka janam ho. Isiliye maine yeh faisla kiya hain k Swara iss bacche ko janam nahi degi.
L: Ma please ma aisa maat kahiye ma. Dekhiye ma aap mujhe apna beta mante hain na? toh please mera yakeen kijiye, main Shona aur baby ka saath kabhi nahi chodungi. Swara aur humare bacche ko sirf apna naam nahi, balki duniya ki saari khushiyan doongi. Par please ma aisa maat kijiye. Ma Swara ko sirf main yaad nahi hoon, usse humara baccha bhi yaad hain, woh mehsus kar sakhti hain iss bacche ko aur bohut zyada pyaar karti hain humare bacche se. Main aapke samne haath jor ti hoon ma, please humse humari khushi maat chiniye.
SH: TUM SAMAJ KYUN NAHI RAHE HO LAKSH! Swara ki haalath wasie bhi taras khane kayak hogayi hain, aab please uski zindagi mein aur bhuchal maat lao. Yeh mere liye aasan nahi hain par main yeh sab sirf shona k liye nahi keh rahi hoon, tumhe aapna beta manti hoon isiliye bol rahi hoon. Yeh sab jawani ka josh hain beta. Abhi tumhari umar hi kya hain, kaise laroge iss puri samaj se? Zindagi nikal jayegi aur ek din harke apne parivar k paas laut jaoge. Tab meri Shona aur uske bacche ka kya hoga? Meri bacchi ne bohut saha hain, aur aab main use aisa kuch bhi nahi karne dungi jisse use aur uske bacche ko ek zillat bhari zindagi bitani pare. Mera decision final hain aur hum kaal hi doctor k paas jakar sab kuch final karke ayenge.
She wipes her tears and is about to exit when Laksh calls her from behind.
L: Thik hain ma, aapko yahi lagta hain na ki Swara aur mere bacche ko unka haq nahi de paunga? Toh main aapse wada karti hoon- agle 24 ghanto mein aapko tasalli dilaungi k Swara aur humara bacche ko main samaj aur mere parivaar mein apna naam zaroor doonga.
SH: Aur aisa na kar sakhe toh?
L: Toh aapka faisla sarakho par. Main apne ghar laut jaunga aur aapki beti ko kabhie pareshan nahi karunga. Par mera ek request hain, aaj mujhe Swara k paas rehne dijiye, kya paata phir kabhi usse aur mere bacche ko dekh paunga ya nahi.
Shomi nods and Laksh leaves to see Omi, feeling like his world was now hanging by a delicate thread that could be severed at any moment. 24 hours was all he had, in 24 hours he had to save his family.
SK: Mishti humein maaf kardena, humari kamzori k vajaise tumne aur Swara ne itna saha, aur tumhare aaj k faisle k liye bhi kahin ka kahin hum zimedar hain. Par Mishti Laksh Shekhar Gadodia nahi hain. Woh apne pyaar aur apne bacche ko samaj mein pehchaan zaroor dega. Aur humein yakeen hain k 24 ghanto mein woh khud ko sabit zaroor karega.
SH: Tum yeh mat bhulo Shekhar k Laksh k jeet mein Ragini ka haar hain.
SK: Jiska pyaar sacha hon usse toh jeetnahi hain. Jaise k humara pyaar; tumhe humare pyaar par dobara yakeen zaroor hoga.
2 HOURS LATER IN THE BADI
Laksh returns at night from Omi's and tries to figure out a way to enter Swara's room without facing any of the family. He had no patience for arguments tonight. He just wanted to see Swara and fall asleep in her arms. Contrary to popular belief he hadn't slept in four days either simply went from being drunk to sober. The stress of the situation was getting to him and he decided to pull out a cigarette and smoke it on the roof. He lit the cigarette and inhaled the first puff feeling each of his muscles relax and and his brain cells start to take their designated place again.
SK: Yeh acchi aadat nahi hain.
Laksh turns around in a panic and attempts to hide the cigarette behind him.
L: Sir woh main...
SK: Aab chupane se koi faida nahi, tumhara bhalai isi mein hain k tum ek cigarette mujhe bhi do.
L: Sir aap bhi?
SK: Kya tum iss duniya mein pehle mard nahi ho jo pitah banne wala hain. Hum bhi pita hain, stress humein bhi hoti hain. (laksh nods and passes him one, he lights up and inhales with delight. They finish smoking in surprisingly comfortable silence) Toh Laksh meri beti aur nawase ko khush toh rakhoge na? (Laksh nods with a hint of a smile on his face and shekhar nods back in acknowledgement) Ghar mein tumse sawal karnewale sab so gaye aur Swara abhi bhi jag rahi hain shayad tumhari rah dekhrahi hogi, waise bhi tumhare bina na usse bhookh lagti hain aur nahi usse neend aati hain; aisi laparwahi humare nawase k liye thik nahi. Jao, dono khana khake so jao. Ek aur baath- agar beti huyi toh kabhi kabhar cigarette pee sakhte hon; par beta huya toh yeh aadat chod dena.
Laksh smiles and rushes off to see Swara.
Ok guys sorry these chapters were a bit dry but the next chapter will be entirely about two people looking for answers and comfort in their partner. It'll be a short chapter before the drama commences.
PS: Im enjoying this. Its amusing. May even stop watching the show cos I fear it wont be as satisfying. 😆😆
