^^^ This Karna is really impressed by Yudhi, and won't sit on the throne even if it comes out now that he's Yudhi's jeshtest. Yudhi has won him over the way Dury did in the original story 😆

I have a question, I really like watching mythological stories and hence I started watching the show. But when I came on forum I read different versions of the stories. And even the wikipedia says something else, so what is the actual stories? Because something that is supposed to have happened cannot be altered so much that two completely different version is shown.
Also Kunti had Karn before her marriage but there was no intercourse or intimacy through which she gave birth it was a boon, it was the same method through which Pandavas were born so why could Karn not be accepted by Kunti?
Secondly, are Krishna and Pandavas from the same time period? Since Arjun married Krishna's sister?
If Karn is the oldest son shouldn't he be the heir to the throne because none of the Pandavas are Pandu's biological kid rather kids from different Gods. So logically if truth was already known to Bhishma (as per some sources), why did he never think of Karn as worthy of throne?
And lastly what time period is the story set up in?

As per the Hindu scriptures, the event of Mahabharat happened in the year 3102 BC, although the western sources state the time to be approximately the 9th Century BC.
Talking about different versions, then you can understand that we hear different versions of our independence struggle in India and Pakistan which happened less than 200 years back) and here we are talking of 5000 years so different version is unavoidable.
As per the norms of those days, Kunti could have very well kept Karna with her and if ever she married, the child would have been considered of the husband, but then it is always difficult for the mother of child to get married. Also convincing others would have been difficult that child was not out of an intercourse as she did get other Pandavas with full awareness and after discussion with her husband, but about Karna no one actually knew. I think this was the reason that Bhishma did not reveal Karna's identity.
Yes Krishna and Pandavas are from the same period, Arjun and Krishna were very good friends. Krishna was also the best friend of Draupadi the common wife of the Padvas.

I think I answered all the questions, although most of the forum member s know much more than me they might help you more

Time calculation of Mb period is very different from today's one...as per Mb...karna was eldest among all..he was 12 years older than yudi (now its 7 years)...yudi was 1 year elder than bheem (now 9 months )...dury 1 day younger than bheem ...all his others bros were 1 days younger than him and dushala was youngest among kauravas...arjun was 1 year 4 months (now 1 year)younger than bheem and nakul and sahadev were 1 year 4 month (now 1 year) younger than Arjun...krishna was 6 month (now 4 months)older than Arjun...so all the pandavas ,kauravas ,Krishna and karna belongs to almost same age group . 😊

Since Nandita & Shipreeta already answered some of your questions esp about timeline I wont repeat it again & yes as Shipreeta has mentioned that Karna was born to unmarried Kunti from a boon which the young princess claimed that she used out of curiosity. Now that Karna was born; to avoid shame and being ostracized her family by the society she abandoned infant Karna who was later rescued and adopted by a suta couple Adhirath & Radha.

Now coming to Pandavs birth. Pandu was cursed and he wont be able to be intimate with either of his wives. Although he was already in exile, he was tensed thinking about the legacy of their line becoz his sister-in-law Gandhari who already conceived was unable to deliver sons to his brother for over a year. When Pandu came to know about Kunti's boon he told his wife to use this boon to summon a god and bear a son with the qualities & blessings of that god. This method is called niyoga where a woman can be impregnated by her husband's permission and his choice of mate. Now this is a critical phase. If Kunti told him about the birth of Karna who was born from Sun God - there were two possibilities: Either Pandu accepted Karna as his son as he was born by the same boon as he asked his wife to bear his sons or deny to own him as he was born w/o his permission or knowledge. Kunti may have also feared that by revealing the existence of her first born would destroy/ harm her bond with her husband. Hence she decided to kept silent.

Karna being heir to Hastinapur throne - Different people has different opinion about this particular statement. I personally feel that Karna should have been the heir to the throne of KuntiBhoj i.e. Kunti's father's kingdom as he was born before her marriage.

As per my understanding Bhishma came to know about Karna's lineage from Sage Ved Vyasa but he did not reveal it since he thought it was not his secret to tell. As per his opinion, Karna's mother has the right to reveal the birth secret to her son.

You see there are various versions of different sub-plots of the epic & each has their own POV about each character or incident. Of course you will find some incidents unbelievable but the epic is from different era having different societal rules & principles & most us think those incidents from our modern mindset. But still the epic Mahabharata never ceases to amaze me 😊

Also Karna's caste sutas were not same as shudras as what is being shown in the serial. Suta was a higher rank than vaishya and Shudra, it was inter caste of Kshatriya father and brahmana mother (Karna 's adoptive parents were sutas)
And even if Karna was a shudra then too the incidents shown in the serial like cutting off Karna's uncles hand because he touched a weapon or lower ranked people not allowed to drink water from upper rank people's well did not happen then. These are modern evils of caste system which are being depicted incorrectly in the show.

Duryodhan and Karna used to eat and drink together happily. Keechaka the suta was an exceptional warrior and commander in chief of virata.
Krishna refused to eat and drink at duryodhan's banquet and happily went to vidura's house and ate there. And vidura is of a lower rank than Karna. Even Kunti used to stay at vidura's place.

Dhritrashtra's best friend was sanjaya a suta, who was also treated with a lot of respect. Maharishi Ved vyas was also An inter caste like Karna but he was accorded highest respect wherever he went

Somebody should file a case against siddharth tewari for showing such nonsense in a time period when it did not actually happen. It is portraying a very negative picture of a society which was guided by Vedic principles which were rigid but not as discriminatory as being portrayed by him.

Karna belongs to suta race...not suta caste...but he was very much belongs to shudra caste...a cast is made up of different races...for example Brahmin was a caste but they consist of prists, teachers and doctors...similarly there are many races included in khastriya...cowherds were khsatriya...but they were considered as lower race than the kings...lord Krishna was also insulted by some kings like sisupal becoz he belongs to that race...shudra were the biggest caste which consisted charioteers, hunters, slaves, farmers, fisher mans etc...and it was very true that bhramhin and khastriyas were very rude to shudras...caste systems is always a biggest hinderance of Hinduism...but yes SidT us excess to show everything...

And duryadhan was very liberal about the caste system..he ate and drunk with karna that means not Ke all the ppl thought the similar...karna was daanveer ..but he could not donate food to Brahmin becoz of his low caste...if anybody have doubt about my comment then pls read jamini das version of Mb...ppl will easily understand how caste system was so much rigid at that time ...

And sutas were good friends of kings and royal borns and worriers becoz they were most closer to them due to their profession...and vidura was adopted by royal king so he was a khsatriya although he was dasi Putra...similarly ved vayas's father was sage parasar who was a Brahmin... 😊

And an very important thing is that as karna was an antagonist of the epic mahabharat so many ppl think that he was not so popular among ppl...he was very much popular and got respect from ppl belongs to different class...pls read karna's death in kmg mahabharat...it was clearly mentioned that gods, humans ,gandharvas everybody cried for him...a person can not become biggest danveer of a whole nation without the love and respect of ppl towards him...but yes he was insulted by some specific caste minded ppl...some of them were blind with their own rigid mentality and some of them were intentionally insulted him for their own personal reason...and except his enemity with pandavas karna is always considered as an generous king and kind hearted person...he was a man who belongs to humble family but became a famous worrier as well as king of his time ...and that was not an small achivement ... 😊
