Sometimes there are malicious adwares on visitors PC can cause this. I would recommend doing a full PC scan for malwares/adwares.

Still I would check with Google to understand if there is something that we can do at our end to prevent such incidents.

I would like to add something here.
I was facing the same issue a few days back. I would be on the home page of IF and then click a link and LO! an ad page would open and sometimes it would redirect me to Google Play store asking me to download an anti virus software ( called 360 degree or something). I would clear my history, cookies, run a complete anti-virus check (I have AVG anti virus on my mobile) Restart IF and the same problem would recur. This was surprising as I have pop up blocker on my browser.
Then I tried to dig deep into this. Normally when I click a link on IF it shouldn't take me to some other site. So, I thought that IF was hacked. But that wasn't the case as my laptop wasn't giving the problem. this was occurring only on my phone and tablet.
I being a tech savvy person realized that this was something to do with the DNS setting. On my laptop I have set it to 8.8.8.8, but I don't know how to set it on my phone.
I checked my modem's DNS setting and saw that it has been changed to something else, which I googled and found that it was located in Norway! I contacted my ISP and complained. They asked me to change the DNS setting on the modem. I did so and for 2 days it was fine, but after 2 days the same pop ups started coming up.
Then I realized that my Wi-Fi modem is hacked. (It's called DNS hijack - http://www.gohacking.com/dns-hijacking/) After some discussion with friends I came to know that if the default password on the Wi-Fi modem (admin, pw admin) is not changed and you leave the modem on 24x7 people do hack it.
I bought a new Wi-Fi modem and made sure I change the default password. Now I don't have any pop ups from IF or any other site.
I hope this helps! 😊
PS: after checking your modem, please clear all history from your device before using it again.

Visrom :

The same thing, DNS Hacking was the problem with my Wi-Fi network. I googled about the ad site which was coming[ad.adsmatte.com] as pop-up, where the solution was somewhat like yours.

In my case, I just had to Reset my modem, clear all the history, cache, cookies etc., in all browsers of my laptop[as the pop-up started coming in all browsers] and now from two days, I'm using India-forums and other websites without pop-ups. :) So resetting the modem worked for me.

Also, there's a trick to solve this, if you're getting pop-up sites which have common URL then google them, there are so many others who have faced this kind of problem and solutions are available as well. :)

Also, thanks Visrom for sharing your experience. :)

Quick question to both of you Visrom & Dev - by reseting the modem, do you mean specifically hitting the reset button on the modem, like is sometimes required, or will simply powering the modem off and then on again do?

Vrish :)

Just hit the Reset button for a minute, then release it. Later connect it again with your PC/Laptop via cable & after scanning, and clearing your history in each browser, open your IP Address & login there. Change settings according to requirement. Switch on your wireless from it & its done. It worked for me.

Vrish resetting the modem means pressing a pin against the reset button at the back side. But in my experience resetting the modem to factory settings didn't help. It had started giving some other issues as well, and the technician said that the firmware is affected. So I changed it.

Dear *Dev.*

Where did you get that avatar image currently on your profile? It's looks like a picture clicked by me and I do not remember sharing it on I-F 😊

Cheers

Hi Vijay brother!

Once I visited your Facebook profile, where I found some interesting & informative tech devices reviews so I started reading them from your Timeline, that is when I came across Lord Krishna's image uploaded by you as public post! I really liked the clarity in it. So I made it my avatar image here. Also, I admired it due to spiritual reason. 😊

If it is offending you, which is not my motive, then I will remove it right away.😊

Regards,
Dev.

Visrom, you're talking about the ROUTER, not the modem. Modem would be either a DOCSYS Cable Modem, or a DSL Modem, depending on what your ISP gives you. The router is something usually you get yourself, which is the modem, and can be connected either through Ethernet cables or Wi-Fi to a PC or laptop, and just through Wi-Fi to a tablet or phone

Ok, mine is an ADSL Modem + WiFi Router. I have a 2-in-one.
This is what I have.
So I am talking about only one device. If you have another system, then the one which has the DNS settings is to be reset.
I am not familiar with a separate router and modem set-up.
