I agree with everything you said. However, a principle is a principle.
People of all ages come here on IF - fangurls and sane people alike. I don't want some 13 or 14 year old hearing things from people they call 'Di' on here to say things like 'people who hate xyz celeb are just [insert name here - rapist, Hitler, dog, loser, etc etc].
I don't want that kind of language and behaviour to be emulated; for the word 'hate' to be trivialised, for criticism about a TV show to be labelled 'bashing', which is akin to freaking genocide and for people who don't accept being put into neat phangurl boxes to be labelled 'hatemongers'.
Vijay, make your money, keep the chaska meter whatever, but please get your mods to do a better job. Tell them to be fair and not tolerate these kinds of insults towards other members. People spew insults, some people laugh and don't care, others are sensitive and take it to heart. The cyber bullying can push some really sensitive person over the edge. Only when someone actually sues IF for allowing an environment that breeds emotional distress will action be taken.
You're trying to protect celebs because your afraid of lawsuits? OK. Then why were people on IF not reprimanded for insulting Viraf on the forum? They became so brave they went on to abuse the poor guy on his Twitter. Or did Viraf not matter because he's not Barun?
And that's the problem. Stupid people who have become brave and feel like they can say anything and they can get away with it. It could have been nipped in the bud if they had just been told that kind of language and behaviour won't be tolerated.
It's your business, but it involves people; the members here are your customers. As such you have an obligation, a social responsibility to not breed a toxic environment.
