I support Jallikattu/Eru Thazuvuthal
Personally I am not a big fan of Jallikattu
But its' a traditional sport and I don't buy the reason they say for banning it
There are thousand of sport out there which harms animals
Then comes animal slaughter for meat etc
But Peta could see only Jallikattu and the national media
keeps saying cruel and barbaric sport, which is ridiculous
(they are airing old footage of few instances,
the sport was regulated post 2009 and I have watched it live on TV)
Reason that this sport is the targeted is
It's not a rich man's sport, it's farmer's sport/poor man's sport
He rears the bull like a child for whole year(worships it)
Trains it for the sport and when eventually the sport happens
It's just barely secs that a bull participates in it(once in a year)
Then it goes back with it's owner who takes care of it again
I have never heard about a bull getting killed or serious injuries in the process
while few people who participated in the sport have died(the part which I don'tr like)
More than just a sport or protest for a sport
I see it as a protest for Identification and rights
Tamil fishermen getting killed by SriLankan army, Govt doesn't care
Karnataka refuse to release water from Cauvery(inspite of Supreme court order)
We face problem in Periyar Damn issue too
Rise of farmer suicides due to drought and lack of water
Pongal leave getting canceled(later fixed due to protest)
Jallikattu banned(since four years when people were requesting Govt to fix the law)
I see it as a outburst of all these events
Last but not least Peta is not a credible organisation
Lot of controversies surrounding it
There is another angle to this issue
where ban of jallikattu will see a fall in raising of native breed bulls
(we just have 20K native bulls left now)
it's said tha,t it's done to erase native breeds for the corporate to benefit
