Another beautiful episode I would say. Actually Mandodari standing in the fire and demanding Ravan that she will not come out till she gets vachan from him that he wont marry Sita reminded me of Sita before going back to earth.
Here Mandodari demands a vachan keeping her satitiva at stake. Not to do something. Kaikasi knows she will have to ensure her son gives Mandodari what she wants for his own safety. Because her dharma and satitiva is Ravan's power.
So here Mandodari is using her power as a bait to get what she wants. And she gets what she wants, but then Ravan too uses his power and demands a counter vachan from her. That is the problem if you use power and demand something. On most occasions you will have to give something back.
What does Sita do when faced with such a situation. She doesn't demand anything, she is asking earth to take her back if she is pure and chaste and have done all the duties of the wife. And bhoomi devi coming to take her is the proof for the world what Sita is.
But Mandodari with her demand only averts the disaster temporarily, not completely. Because even at that time Mandodari has fear of death, just like she had when Ravan threatened her father. Death was a solution for her at that time without marrying such an adharmi king. She didn't do it. Even now she is doing only threatening with life, not actually taking her life.
And Sita what Sita says is true. If a king is bad entire country pays the price and it is because of that she feels if Ravan corrects himself Lanka and praja will be saved. It is a very important message these days where people in power are corrupt and the corruptness and selfishness is creating a country where we have many young widows, fatherless kids, childless parents, diseases, poverty and all types of social ills. Because we all are in chains and we think deals are the way to break chains. Yes they are, but they should be based on trust than on power.
Now Ravan gets the information Bali is killed. Another feat Ram achieves which Ravan couldn't do. He says he is expecting Ram in Lanka and they should not be afraid but they have to be cautious. See Ravan the all knowledgeable knows fear means defeat. And he is not afraid at this point, he is just in wait and watch mode.
But what changes the whole scenario. Hanuman's arrival. It is not Ram who comes to Lanka first. But it is his sevak Hanuman. And he not only assess Lanka's strength and weakness but before his return wreak havoc in Lanka. See why does Ram'a army doesn't suffer the way, Pandava army suffer in MB. Reason is in Tetrayuga people knew to defend adharma you can use adharma, the knowledge that was lost in Dwapar yuga and very few know in Kaliyuga. This lack of knowledge is what makes adharma grow in Kaliyuga.
Sita haran was adharma, so to win that war adharma can be used. That is why Hanuman enters Lanka stealthily. That's why Ram has no qualms sending Lakshman and co to Nikumbhila to obstruct Meghnad's yajna. That's why Ram had no qualms when vanar drags Mandodari to obstruct Ravan Yajna. Whereas in MB it takes a lot of effort from Krishna and the brutal death of Abhi for Pandavas to see the light and break the rules. If we give adharma the same language back dharma can win.
Now once again in Kishkinda we hear representative king. That Sugreeva will rule Kishkinda based on Ram's principles. Without taking power, power comes to Ram. Or rather his thoughts because of his actions. Ram is an idea. Ram is a thought. And if we understand the thought correctly what Ram envisioned can happen even in Kaliyuga.
