About 2 hours ago I commented on the post Poor Lakshman about how I feel that his character has not been done justice with. Especially today when sita runs after shrupnakha the lady who tried to lure her husband and kill her to apologise and will be chiding lakshman later.

I was a little surprised by this portrayal and was instantly reminded of my second semester ( I'm currently in my fourth sem ) when we had Hindi in our curriculum and we had a 105 paras long poem panchvati by writer maithlisharan gupt. Though my friends found it very tiring but I loved it. Since the shrupnakha incident is currently being shown I really want to share this writer's brilliant piece of poetry. Do read guys I'm sure you'll like it.

I'll just give brief of imp incidents though poem contains many many paras describing the beauty and atmosphere and story so far. In this poem shrupnakha is actually attracted to lakshman first when she finds him sitting alone at night guarding the hut.
She goes to him professes her love and asks him to marry her. Of course he declines, tries to dissuade her reminding her constantly of her maryada. She doesn't budge and they keep arguing whole night. It's dawn and she's still not successful in luring him. This is when sita comes out and finds them talking. When she comes to know of her intentions she actually teases him by asking him to accept her. Lakshman and sita's light hearted banter is very sweet. This is when Ram comes out and shrupnakha is attracted to him and changes her mind. Sita is taken aback. Of course he rejects her too. After a while when she gets angry and tries to attack sita lakshman does the needed.

Sita of course panics but she never blames him. She just expresses her concern that something bad might follow. Here lakshman reassures her saying that till he's here no trouble will ever come. Ram is full of gratitude saying lakshman has suffered a lot bcoz of him. Lakshman says he can suffer anything fr them but cannot bear his bhaiya talking like this as if he owes him anything. More conversation follows. In the end sita teases him that he should not talk big, he couldn't even get his wife to van. Saying so she's about to cry. But then she tells him. Pick up the pots and let's go to river. But before they leave Ram stops them. He's very emotional to see the lovely bond between them. He plucks the flowers from the garden which sita and lakshman had made and showers them on the two thus celebrating their devar-bhabhi relation and the happiness of the three even in Van. This where poem ends.

No matter what this depiction of shrupnakha incidence will always be my favourite.
