Let me tell you my favourite character of Ramayana is Lakshman. I remember studying a poem Panchavati by Maithili Saran Gupt for my Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha Visharad Paper 2. The poetry had only 4 characters Lakshman, Ram, Sita and Soorpanakha. During exam it was choice between Lakshman and Sita for character analysis and I wrote Lakshman. During viva that teacher asked me when Sita was there why did I chose Lakshman for character analysis. I still remember my answer. There is nothing special in Sita. She has lot of qualities kind of perfect. But Lakshman has imperfections and those imperfections add beauty to his character. There is nothing to analyze in perfect, but lot to analyze in imperfect. Hence I choose Lakshman.
So today also I am choosing Lakshman because he is the defense of Ram, that emotional support without which Ram cannot act. Today also under extreme stress Lakshman takes the ownership of bringing the Mahrishi. And what you need to observe is the way Lakshman behave once he reaches ashram. Anyone would easily throw up their hands and cry no one is here. Now what will I do. Even before trying they will give up. But Lakshman he focuses, he observes and finally he get the answers through ants who take him to the samadhi. It was a beauty the way he asserts someone is inside that sand structure.
Once he ascertains, the guy doesnt sit quiet. Though Shatrughna is afraid, he says they have no option but to wake him up. So with utmost respect Lakshman requests the rishi to save their brother. Even when the rishi comes out angrily he doesnt back out. He asks for punishment for him but to save his brother.

Lakshman today exhibited all qualities that is needed for a defense. Defense has to be agile, defense has to observe the present, defense needs to have presence of mind, because it is the defense that will decide who will win or lose the battle.
Before the great battle between the 2 attackers, it will be always battle of the defense of both sides. And the one who wins the battle of defense, the victory is theirs, because you take the defense out of the enemy emotionally weakening them.

That's why Lakshman-Indrajith battle becomes more important than Ram-Ravan. Because Lakshman is fighting Ravan's biggest defence, the one who has defeated Lord Indra. And his presence of mind and composure in the battle plays the most important role in Ram's ultimate victory.

Defense yes you dont observe them that fast because a real defense dont show up till the most appropriate time. It is our duty to create defense, because life's battle can never be won without defense and what is the best defense. investing in good, harmonious relations with trust and understanding. That is your real wealth.

I agree with you completely. I have always felt that Ram is an ideal while Lakshman with his imperfections is more human.I also felt that probably because Lakshman is the avtar of Sheshnag,he is able to deduce what is hidden inside the anthill, after all ant hills are also abodes for snakes.Just my observation,I maybe wrong😊
Best Regards

Di well said this episode Lakshman acted as defense of Ram..👏
If Lakshman will not take up the responsibility of bringing Rishi Mudgal Ram will never be able to focus on the war with asuras😃

Also Lakshman cheers up Ram and ask him not to lose hope and they will find Sita bhabi
At this time Ram needed Lakshman's support the most as he is completely devasted because of Sita Apaharan

Sankrit Poem which tell us Lakshman's importance.

Utsaaho balavaanaarya naastyutsaahaat param balam
Sotsaahasya hi lokeshu na kinchidapi durlabham.

meaning:😃
Enthusiasm has great strength. There is no greater strength than enthusiasm. There is nothing which is not attainable in this world for the enthusiastic.

[Context: Lakshmana's words to cheer up Rama who is deep in sorrow at the loss of Sita. He emphasizes that Rama should come out of his grief and be cheerful and enthusiastic about seeking out Sita's whereabouts.]

Awesome post. This show helped me to know about laxman. Ram sita are ideal character so can not connect with them bt laxman is a character we can connect with.
Laxmila made a big sacrifice bt still they have lil importance in ds show, which is really disappointing. Inspite of his victory with inderjit he is not considered a good warrior. He truly had so many qualities.

Shruti, I agree with you. Lakshman is the most relatable character of Ramayana for me

He is most human with flaws and virtues just like anyone of us...

Beautiful Post 👏
Yes, Lakshman is my fav aswell .
Not because of his righteousness bt because of his flaws and the way he compensates them with his good virtues . He is the most relate-able character in the Ramayan appearing more like any other human being with all emotions that could take over one's Sense to distinguish b/w right and wrong . bt Lakshman's exemplary behavior is a must learn lesson for all of us .

Injrajit -Lakshman's yudh was my fav fight in the Ramayan .
Thanks for making such informative and thought provoking posts .

Shruthi... 🤗
Brilliant post...

I so agree with you... Imperfections are perfect for analysis 😆

Sira are too perfect to come into that domain...

And lakshman . Hamesha se favorite...

The scene I love d most is the way he recognised sita's anklets when she was abducted and the explanation he gave 👏

Am loving SKR because of the minute detailing of every character.. That might be janaka, sunaina, urmila, mandvi, kirti and even shatanand... ⭐️

They are exploring every character...

And I was glad they didn't rush with the scene when LaSha go to bring the maharishi...

The tym they gave for the ants to crawl and lakhan to observe was phenomenal...

They brought up the much needed dimension of a defense...

Lakshman in specific, always has to be on his toes... Till the end...

Ram is strong because his back-up is strong... 😉

@Chandrika yes I observed that part too. Ant hill abode of snake and Lakshman Sheshnag. But decided to give more importance to Lakshman as a person than divine. His presence of mind even in adversity. Hence didn't mention in my post. But yes thank you for pointing out this divine aspect
@ms.dhingra a lot of people admire Lakshman. Even in the forum you can see Lakshmila fans. Lakshman jaisa bhai is always told. Without a brother like Lakshman and Sevak like Hanuman Ram cannot win. In a way for Purush to win, he needs Prakriti. In a way if you look Lakshman is Prakriti in Purush form. Sheshnag that represents nature, understands the poison in nature has come to Ram as his brother. And Hanuman he also represents Prakriti. Son of wind god. Rudramsa. Lakshman is respected a lot.
@bheegi yes Lakshman is relatable because he is representative of nature😃
@sruthi yes Indrajith-lakshman battle is the one I also look forward to. Especially the scenes where Maruti takes Lakshman on his shoulders and matches the wavelength of Indrajith's chariot.
