what a powerful episode that was!
A lesson in the true meaning of greatness

Through the story of Vishwamitra and through his journey and tapasya from

ego to humility we learn the essence of greatness.

From anger to repentance

From being the aggressor to being the protector

We see the rise of Vishwamitra to Maharishi

By laying down his arms and embracing peace,

Vishwamitra learns the true meaning of strength and courage

And by bowing down at the feet of Vashishtha, he rises very high!

And in guru Vashihstha we meet a true guru and an enlightened soul

a man who is above greed, above power and even anger

A man who will not agree to wrong doing, just to preserve his position

A man who will forgive even the murderer of his sons

And man who will graciously acknowledge the greatness of his arch enemy even

This equanimity and true peace is what is nirvana, it is the most difficult to achieve

And a true tapasvi has a strength of mind and soul, that is far more than strength of body

Of course, once again Rama's simple solutions to complex issues work magic

Very often we are so embroiled in false pride, ego, prestige, that we do not see the easiest way out

Instead complicate our life. In those moments, remember the philosophy of Rama - just ask for forgiveness ...

A beautiful episode, manish ji doing a great job showing the multiple facets of Vishwamitra !

Asking forgiveness is the best thing. It allows both the people involved to move ahead in life. The one asking forgiveness becomes guilt free. The one forgiving rises at higher level of consciousness.
Truly an amazing solution.

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.
These lines taken from 'The psalm of life 'by Longfellow reflect the message in today's episode. What a phenomenal journey from a normal human being to becoming a saint. Isn't this the pinnacle all of us need to aspire to in life?

@mnx12 asking for forgiveness is indeed the best thing. For the person who is asking for it has completely subjugated his ego and anger, to do so and that elevates him to higher plane; the person who is able forgive the other person's sins towards him, has succeeded in experiencing the divinity within him! It seems to be a win -win situation...one of the rare instances life gives us😉.

Yes, Arijit, he practices true detachment, and is able to rise above worldly emotions! I always felt strange why Rishi Vashishtha seemed so avichalit at all times, I guess that's because he has conqurerd his self- the biggest victory!

So true, Minu, forgiveness is a potent medicine, hard to ask for, and just as hard to give, and requires true courage and grace from both! But a process that will heal both, the wrong doer, and wronged!

When we se Vashihstha, we realise that he had to really rise above pain and anger and by doing that he actually achieved enlightenment !

And by not using his powers to appease the King, he also showed true strength of mind.

Beautiful lines that once again prove that the real meaning of goodness and greatness are universal, and transcend both time and space.

We may couch it in different regions, but spirituality the world over has a common meaning!

The beauty of all great scriptures is to highlight these values through the stories of extraordinary people!

And if after reading/ watching some thing worthwhile, we can spend a few moments reflecting on it, it enriches us too, and hopefully makes a bit better as a person!

Sorry, for dropping out in the middle, but life is a juggling act, and some days you have too many rings in the air, and have to drop some!

@Arshics so glad to see your post and yes true greatness is not conquering the world, but conquering ourselves, conquering our emotions, conquering our ego and false pride.
Vasishta stood as the epitome of values and Vishwamitra undertook a journey where the great Gayatri Mantra was revealed to him.
What a journey for the man who was so embroiled in Purusharth.
