Rajkumari Sita, the princess of Mithila, daughter of Raja Janak, the would be wife of Ayodhya prince Ram, was sitting in the flower garden of the palace thinking about her future husband. In the Swayamvar, the man looked divine, a god among men. She could not have been more happy then she was when Ram lifted the Shiv Dhanush with ease and broke it. She respected him for his strength, wisdom and compassion. And though she didn't know it, the petals of love had started blossoming in her heart.
So lost was Sita in her thoughts that she didn't notice the very man she had been thinking about enter the garden. Ram wanted some time alone from his younger siblings' constant teasing. He had discovered the flower garden the day before and the place gave him a sense of peace. So, he came here to spend some time alone. Never in a hundred years did he think that the beautiful woman who comes in his dreams, his to be wife would be sitting here. He wanted to talk her.
Ram hesitated for a moment. What if she didn't like him intruding her space? What if she became angry with him thinking that he snuck up on her? He had seen what happened when Mother Kaykeyi's wrath befell his father. Even the wise and brave King Dashratha becomes docile when that happened. What is it people say? Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. He shivered.
But this was ridiculous. He had killed Tadka, for Mahadev's sake. He shouldn't be afraid. Ram steeled himself and stepped forward. Sits didn't notice him approach. She was still lost in her own thoughts. Therefore, she was startled when she heard Ram's voice from behind.
"Sita?" Ram called her.
Sita quickly got up and turned around to see her man of dreams standing in front of her. "Dashrathnandan, you here?" She asked nervously.
Ram smiled. "Yes, I wanted some time alone. One can only take so much teasing without getting tired. But what are you doing here?"
Sita replied shyly, "Well, I always come here when I need to think. All these have happened so fast that ..." She trailed off.
Ram, interpreting her wrongly, thought that she didn't want to marry him. Becoming a bit (a lot) sad, he started, "Sita, if you do not want to marry me, then I shall not..." But he was interrupted by Sita herself.
Sits, realizing that Ram has misunderstood her, said, "No, prince. I am not unhappy with this marriage. In fact, I am happy that I am fortunate enough to find someone who would respect me and my choices. But all these happened so quickly that I am bit overwhelmed. Please do not misunderstand me."
Hearing this, Ram smiled. He felt so much love and respect for this woman. Maybe what Sage Vishwamitra had said was true. Sita was his wife for all lifetimes. He hoped that they would always be together in body and soul for all lifetimes.
Janam janam janam saath chalna yuhi
Kasam tum he kasam aake milna yehi
Ek jaan he bhale do badan ho juda
Meri hoke hamesha hi rehna
Kabhi na kehna alvida.
Ram felt like he could stay there staring at her forever. His world seemed to revolve around her. His days, his nights - everything is with her.
Meri subha ho tumhi or tumhi shaam ho
Tum dard ho tumhi aaram ho
Meri duao se aati hai has ye sada
Meri hoke hamesha hi rehna
Kabhi na kehna alvida.
Ram lovingly took a step towards Sita. Out of nervousness, she took a step back. Her feet caught on a rock lying there and she lost her balance. She was about to fall when she felt a strong pair of arms pull her to safety of their owner's chest. Ram held her firmly yet gently. She looked up into his eyes. She felt so safe and protected in these arms, like she belonged here along with her whole world.
Teri bahon mein hai mere dono jahan
Tu rahein jidhar meri jannat wahin
Jal rahi agan hai jo ye do tarfa
Na bhuje kabhi meri mannat yahin.
Sita realized that she had come to love and desire this man. He was like the music to her song.
Tu meri aarzoo
Mein teri aashiqui
Tu meri shaayari
Mein teri mausiki.
"Are you okay, priye?" Ram asked her. And then his eyes widened as he realized he had called her 'priye'.
At first, Sita was shocked. But then she smiled. "I am fine, swami." She said shyly. Hearing 'swami', Ram looked at her with love and adoration.
Talab talab talab bas teri hai mujhe
Naason mein tu nasha banke ghulna yuhi
Meri mohabbat ka karna tu haq ye ada
Meri hoke hamesha hi rehna
Kabhi na kehna alvida.
Alvida ... Alvidaaa ... Ooo
Meri hoke hamesha hi rehna
Kabhi na kehna alvida.
At that moment, the love they felt for each other could never be compared to anything in the world. They would never say goodbye to each other. They were destined to be together for Janam Janam...
