The beauty in all these temples and the associated sthala puranams is the inter-connectivity. People can observe the temple with history matching the life events mentioned in epics/puranam. Even who don't believe in god and his wonders cant stop from praising the connectivity of the story-line.

Malaikottai Ucchi Pillayar Temple, Trichy

It is a beautiful Lord Ganesha temple in the top of the mountain rock from where people can see the Srirangam temple (first and foremost temple among 108 divya desam). There is a beautiful story related to this temple. In short, during pattabhishakam, Lord Ram gave a gift to Vibhishana. In Valmiki Ramayan, only gift is mentioned and not its detail. But it is mentioned in Parameswara Samhita, a Pancharatra agama. As per the samhita, Ram gave the Ranganatha idol to Vibhishana. Even though Vibhishana supported Ram, he was an asura, so devas wanted to stop the swamy idol being taken to his kingdom. They approached Lord Ganesh to complete the task.

The Vibhishana wanted to take bath in the dhakshin ganga (river cauvery) and he was puzzled as the deity, once kept in land, can never be removed and has to be in that place forever. Ganesh dressed in cowherd boy agreed to help him by putting the condition that vibhishana had to come within 3 times of his call. But as vibhishana was fully in water, ganesha placed the idol on the sand of the cauvery river bank. Vibhishana was angry on seeing the idol not coming out of sand, he chased the boy who ran and climbed the rock. Finally he reached the boy and hit him on his fore-head. The boy turned into Lord Ganesha and told that the Ranganathar idol will remain in Srirangam and will always face Lanka.

One can see the pit on the forehead of the idol even now. It is a beautiful temple. I can't forget my experience in the temple which I climbed at 12 noon on a sunny day. Dont ever take the risk.😆

The Ranganathan deity buried in sand and the area was turned to be a forest. The idol was discovered by Chola king and he built the Ranganaswamy Temple, Srirangam. It is the largest temple complex in the world. I have to visit this temple to update the details.

Bookmarking the thread for now...Gosh! I have so much to read. I donno if the previous pages have mentioned about Srivilliputhur Andal temple... there is also a divine story behind it. I don't remember it fully though. The paalgoa (a sweet made of milk) is very much famous in there. One can buy it in kgs for a cheap amount.
Thanks a lot for this thread Ramyalaxmi. Its very much enlightening to someone like me who just visits the temple and marvels at the construction n architecture of it.

Can you update the details of Srivilliputhur Andal temple? What I know is only from books and not yet visited the temple. Andal was the only women among 12 azhwars and she married perumal in Srirangam, the temple I just mentioned in my previous post.
Thank u anu.
