so, the dhanush did break accidentally,
And Rama did not know how or why

But he felt that it was symbolic of the end of spardha - competition

His explanation of the swayamwar, as a way for a woman to choose her life partner

And not as a competition to be won by her suitors was perfect.

I specially loved it when he said that Sita was not bound to marry the winner

Her choice would still be supreme

Marriage is a match of equals, and not a competition to be won where the bride is the trophy

The other kings had forgotten the very essence of marriage and made it into a competition

With Sita as the prize, for them she ceased to be a person,

and instead became a thing to be owned and possessed and fought over.

Beautiful argument on spardha virudhdh Samanata - and the right of the woman to choose her partner

And how beautifully Sita conveyed her agreement for this marriage

She would be happy to marry the man who doesn't need to

belittle a woman to prove his strength and valour

And Rama being maryada purshottam, wanted his parents blessings before getting married ...

So amid all the drama by the ridiculous Rajas with their silly egos, Rama and Sita ka Shubh vivah is nishchitt

Par drama Abhi baki hai, Shankar ji ne toh kuch nahi kaha

But unke Bhakt parshurama ji Abhi krodhit hain

Kaise manayenge Shri Rama parshurama ji ko

Janane ke liye dekhiyega zAroor, Kal Shaam 8 baje...

Beautiful post
today's epi is beautiful with grt msg..
loved it..
Ram said right ..this Swyamvar conducted for something but King prince n their EGO make it alter n they think its competition n Sita is a trophy...
Woman is not a trophy when few men will understand
like man woman is human she has hearts Ram today honor Sita by his words which won her heart again...
those men want to show their muscle power n a trophy when Ram didn't...
I loved when Ram asked janak to asked for Sita's wish as its swyambar which mean Swaym ka var choose karna n Sita has the right but again one day ago those kings said who will win he will marry Sita as if Sita don't have anything for her own wish as she is just a trophy but Ram understand n asked her wish permission...
Sita replied so beautifully...
Sita expressed her anguish her pain which she felt few moments ago cause of EGO Arrogant but she is feeling lucky to have Ram as he only know the real meaning of Purusharth...
the moment Sita give the Varmala gosh everything stop only Siyaram r there ...so beautiful So divine ...

Well said Krishna, it was the question of a woman's honour and freedom of choice, but none of those stupid arrogant kings understood it

Rama was once again so calm and serene throughout, and he was unfazed by the breaking of the dhanush and brought out the symbolism of it, again focusing on righteousness and not on personal glory and ego.

Nice post!!!!
You expressed the episode perfectly.

Today's episode was so beautiful...loved how they conveyed the actual meaning of the swayamvar.

During this I loved Raja Janak's expressions. And the reply by Sita...the whole scene was so beautiful.

And then the Varmala scene it looked as if the time stood still for them.

The eyelock they shared...the whole scene was divine.

And the precap excited to see how Ram will convince Pashuramaji about this.

A lot of Ram's speech in this episode was unnecessary and inappropriate, and the real Lord Ram would never have spoken such words. Yes, a woman shouldn't be treated as an object, but Ram tell Janak to ask Sita's permission before getting her married to him implies that Janak did the swayamvar without her consent, which is not true. Only with a princess's consent was a swayamvar ever announced, and a princess, in accordance to her father's vow, agreed to marry whomever fulfilled the test. Neither a princess nor her father had the power to go back on their word once a prince fulfilled it. It would have brought ill-repute to the King's family.

That's why swayamvars like Sita's and Draupadi's were rare. Most swayamvars were choice Swayamvars, where princesses would go around the hall and garland the man of their choice. When a test swayamvar was announced, it was with the intent that the princess had a specific type of groom she wanted, and she vowed that she would marry whoever fulfilled the test.

It was not Janak's vow but Sita's that she would marry whoever lifted the Shiv dhanush, because both Janak and Sita knew that whoever lifted it had to be a divine being.

Stating that Sita would marry whoever lifted the dhanush was not to treat Sita like an object or trophy, but to bring about the groom of Sita's choice. Sita wanted to marry Lord Vishnu, and only Lord Vishnu could break the dhanush, so when Ram broke the dhanush, both Janak and Sita knew he was Vishnu and there was no doubt of Sita's acceptance.

So before having StarRam give a feminist speech about how the swayamvar was treating Sita like an object, CVs should really research what a swayamvar actually meant, and the power it gave women in their choice of groom.

Yes , even I am looking forward to seeing how Rama mellows down parshurama . I suppose finally parshurama will also see the Vinshnu roop of Rama.

The Sita putting varmala was indeed a very warm moment, and the way Rama looked at Sita after she accepted the marriage, was also very romantic

All in all a good episode, which explained the true meaning of marriage

I agree with you about madirakshi and Ashish, they are doing really well. Of course as Sita madirakshi still hasn't shown many facets of Sita which I am sure she will when the time comes - vanvas, Sita Haran, her parityag etc, - those will be her moments to show her calibre, Ashish has been very impressive as Rama, and they both look good together !

And of course the core value of the right of a woman to have equal choice in choosing her partner was very well emphasised

Well, as we all know this Ramayana is an adaptation of the original and has been contextualised for today's generation. And so to emphasise and explain the meaning of swayamvar was in that sense required.

Secondly, Rama was making a comment on the kings, who were looking at it as a conquest, and a contest and Sita as a prize and decided to make it into a test of might - which the condition of the swayamvar never was!

It was to find a man who would match Sita in gunas, and not to hand her over to the mightiest

So to remind the kings of the true essence of swayamvar, and through them to talk to us about the importance of equality was necessary

I think here we have to look at Rama himself as symbolic - a prateek of what's right, an expression of what righteous and since this edition of Ramayana is made for this generation, we will have Rama talk about issues that are relevant to society of today!

Every version of Ramayana that is written is always using Rama as a prateek of maryada purshottam for that age and time
