Current discussion is not even about which version they're following. No one is saying the stories shown in the swayamvar aren't there in some versions. There are many Southern versions of the Ramayan that have Ravan present at the swayamvar, so no one is saying showing him is a distortion or whatnot, but the choice of dialogues written by the scriptwriter just lacks subtlety in all sense. Many of Ram's dialogues and decisions are just way out of context. Like, him stopping the ashvamedha yagna horse sacrifice, promising Sita not to remarry even before they're betrothed at all, his speech at the swayamvar, etc.

Everyone knows such dialogues aren't in any version, because they are totally modern day interpolations. Personally, the episode could have done without them. I often find that excessive dialogue ruins a romantic moment. Like, who wants to see Ram and Sita talk right after he breaks the dhanush? It's so much more romantic, magical and divine to have them communicate through an eyelock while she's garlanding him. Ram and Sita as characters were introverts, they didn't talk all that much in the epic, unless they absolutely had to. The whole dialogue exchanged between Ram, Janak and Sita seemed very business-like and professional, like they were exchanging resumes for a job opening.

Dear friend, I see that you cannot seem to come to terms with the way CVs tell Ramayana, understandably so... But some people like me seem to like it inspite of the "problems". Some do not see any problem at all and love it! Let's leave it at that! As I said agree to disagree! I can argue on each of the point raised by you and say few other things in return and we could debate endlessly... But in the end you are not going to buy my arguments and I am not going to change my opinion based on yours... Why waste our time! One last point, neither you nor I know the real truth or how it happened!!! Your view of how gods behave are based on some preconceived notion! It may not be my view! Or the CVs view! So it's pointless to cry "foul" for everything... At some point you have to let go ... Find something meaningful that you can relate to and enjoy that! My friendly advice to you 🤗
