Completely agree with ur post
I think this us happening in most of the places. My cousin was also in a coaching centre. Everyone said it was like jail.
I understand that parents think by forcing their kids to take medicine or engineering they are securing their future. But why force them to mould in a certain way when they should be given the opportunity to progress however they want. Isn't life abt self discovery.
In the movie 3 idiots madhavan's character wanted to be a photographer instead was forced into another occupation. This happens in real life as well people watch the movie and appreciate it but never think of using it in their own life.
Just because someone is not good at one thing doesn't mean they don't have talent in anything else. On our first day some teachers had asked our class what made us choose medicine as a profession and some of my classmates said they were forced into it by their parents. Some people are waiting for it get over so they can pursue their real dreams. Why waste their time. Instead the parents should let them decide.

Bang on Shruthi.
Whenever I read about student suicides,,I often wonder at our degree of responsibility as being a part of this society that drives its children to such extreme lengths .My children keep changing their ideas about what they want to become in future. When my younger one was 3yrs she wanted to become an astronaut, so we took her to a lot of space museums and we dug a lot of info. about N.A.S.A .She still gets a lot of books about stars, but now she is keen on marine biology...now we are visiting Aquariums wherever we go on holidays. She tells me she would like to volunteer in the aquarium when she reaches high school! Tomm. it could be something else. but it is really fun to go along for the ride.
What does any kid need from us adults ? A little belief in their dreams...A little encouragement...a little understanding at their failures...a pat on their back...
why do we push them into something they are not capable of at that stage?
But the world seems to be opening up...now we have so many avenues to explore, such different paths to take...Maybe we as a society can stop pushing our children or applying unwarranted pressure on them to score more marks ...May be ...

Speaking from my own experience My son wanted to do CA only and we come from a family of engineers. He is happy with his choice and I am proud of him.My daughter is in her 12th and she is presently very stressed about her board exams. She is still unsure of her coarse ofstudy except that she does not want to do either engineering or medicine.I am encouraging her to take up pure science and later go for research.I keep telling my daughter that it's ok if you don't top the class all the time .
In my case I let my children find their ground and they too know that I am there for them when they need me.Comparisions with others is an absolute no.Each one is unique and this must be acknowledged and appreciated.

Shruti, lovely post and a much needed. My son took up commerce and now he's in FYBCA. A commerce student is by no means less intelligent than a science student. If he was not intelligent how come he understands computer programming so well. On the other hand my daughter who is in the 6th standard has learning disability. In her initial school days she couldn't even read her alphabets but thanks to her teachers who gave many children like her special training and now slowly and steadily she's getting there. And, I never made her feel inferior. I made her understand everyone is not the same. Every child is special in their own way. Had I compared my daughter to my son she wouldn't have been able to overcome this problem.

@Ramya you have thought a face for me 😆😆.
@aditi you said it right. The level at which you need to prepare for boards and that for entrance is different. Another thing is that if you don't get entrance, still have good score in boards you will have multiple options, but flunking in boards, not doing well in boards you can land in trouble.
I still remember the girl who had couple of ranks better than me in engineering. Those days to get seat we had to go to a centralized counseling centre where seats will be allotted. Newspapers will have dates of counseling and times for a set of ranks at a particular time. I could see this girl pleading for a seat. And the officer telling no. Reason her plus 2 maths was 48, whereas for engineering in those days 50 was needed. So even with a good rank she didn't get the seat
If you learn to do multiple choice, without understanding fundamental, then it is a problem. Board is fundamental. We need to understand that and if we understand that then entrance becomes easy. Many coaching centres do it reverse. Give quick fix for entrance without teaching fundamentals. Hence all this become complex.

I also loved it when Janak said everyone can't do everything
if we accept this simple thing then everything will be peacefully but aspiration is too much ambition to compete with others (Not in good way ) n make other down n feel good from others r more than anything...

I have choose Commerce n my parents supported me but few of my relatives start to say a woman is doing commerce what is the future its male thing its not cup of my tea... even when I entered class I have seen 3 :15 , only 3 girls we r out of 20 students then school to college to university every where same ...but later now I have seen many r coming n joining...even boys n girls ...
but one time its said who r not good thy choose commerce btw how did they know it ...they didn't even read or study it...
then if u r not dr or engineer then u r as bad as failure this is our society

everyone r best at their own way n everyone can't get same result...they r unique
our five fingers r not same in our hand so...
but our society n our thinking process ...is to feel superior or make other inferior
The problem with us is that we treat some traits superior, other inferior. No they are not. Everything is needed and the universe is making everything balanced only. We by creating unbalance are runining not only the present, but future generation also.
u said what in ur last para that bold part
I agreed fully...

I can understand your situation as I underwent the same when I chose Electricals instead of commerce which normally girls will opt and Electrical Engineering was supposed to be a male field. The worst was that I was the only one among 19 boys and the force on me to opt out was so strong from my classmates (as it was really difficult for them to watch their words and action every moment that I went to my principal with a request to change my trade only to be snubbed by him and later it was my Grand father (who was a villager but very knowledgeable and who acknowledge and promoted the female education being a villager) who said, if you are confident to study with boys, then we have no objection as we know our daughter's nature and quality, so don't worry and go ahead in the field you have chosen. You can think of changing it only if you are not confident to study the subject and feel it is above your reach. Though it was difficult in initial few months, by the time I completed my course, we were a bunch of good friends who never differentiated as boy and girl. We were affected and my friends and classmates were ready to forego their offers from BEML just because, they refused to take me as their work role called for male only.

@Fatema hats off to you for understanding your daughter. Actually there is a movie " Taare Zameen Par" which dealt with this delicate issue. Don't know whether you have watched. If not do give it a try.

WOW Jaya. Your story reminds me of Sudha Murthy's real life story where she had requested JRD Tata why women cannot work on shop floors👏👏

Thank you, Shruti. I have watched this movie and it is very inspiring. The teacher also told me the same thing.

Unfortunately I could not do that as it was dealing with Earth movers and all and added to that I got a better offer from a manufacturing unit. Yes to study my chosen subject was my need but to enforce into a territory which may call for physical strength along with mental was not wise. And I didn't wanted to affect workmanship just to prove my point that I am no less than any male. I do believe in the saying that "certain work to be done by certain people". Added to that they were working shifts and just for a lady, we can't expect a PSU to change their stand. JRD Tata could accommodate Sudha Murthy as it was his own company where as I was to deal with a Central Government company.
Initially I did work in shop floor with male and later moved to marketing as my management realized my ability of convincing is better utilized in Marketing than on shop floor 😆😆
