Ravan told so many dialogues today. He literally insulted Lord Shiva also claiming that without Shiva he can do everything. But the dialogue I want to take out today is the line he said today that he didnt come for Janaki but for Dhanush.
Why I am taking the line is because that line depicted the patriarchal society's attitude towards women. The key reason why female foeticide happens. The marriage doesnt happen with the woman, but with the wealth she brings or she is capable of bringing. On one hand we call woman Lakshmi, but alas at the time of marriage it is not her knowledge or gun that is looked into. The ornaments she wears, the materials that comes with her, the comfort her family can give to the groom's family.
And you take the material and then discard her. Burn her, treat her as a slave. It is as if a woman is born to be a slave to a man's family. It is a privilege to the girl's family a man is willing to marry her. The girl's family has to be grateful for that privilege that is bestowed upon them.

Have we still moved away from this attitude. Yes things are changing. But how much things have changed at the ground level. Today maybe direct foeticide doesnt happen. But I still hear people telling after a son, it is enough because they are afraid they might have a daughter. Even today the birth of a daugther doesnt bring smile to the faces in the family. It is still uff. A burden.

When will we as a society move away from this attitude. When will we learn to respect Prakriti or our daughters. When will we stop treating her a burden.

And most important of all when will woman stop seeing themselves as slaves. When will they stand up for themselves and their rights. Because large part of problem stems from the good women in the name of sanskaar suffering the atrociites by the men and supporting it is acceptable. We have to come out of that.

We have to learn to discriminate. Women themselves have to boot out men like Ravan. Yes a Shiv Dhanush did it for Sita. But each woman will have her personal Shiv Dhanush. Her personal strength with which she can boot out a man like Ravan. They need to identify it or their near and dear ones need to identify it so that Sita goes into the hands of Ram not in the hands of Ravan.

Because only then balance will happen. Only then we will get a cultured new generation who will be able to take their family as well as their country to greater heights in the right manner.

Shruthi u nailed that.
In this so called modern society it still exists..
The woman for many men is a means of getting materialistic comfort.
Not only she is expected to bring cash and kind
She is expected you slave for the guys family.
And expected to have a baby within a year and that to male heir.
I am generalising here.
But behind those pretty as pink closed doors these things happen. Even high society pink doors

true said Shruthi..
Ravan resembles the maximum portion of this society who though woman born to work like slave ...
n yes maximum portion don't like to see girl child n female foeticide happen still...
this society worship Goddess Durga Lakshmi , Saraswati n this society insult humiliate killed woman
maximum portion of this society or say men think they r doing grt thing by marring ...they think woman as commodity for many way...n more sadden thing is maximum part of woman adjust with this n who protest they don't have good manner...
I can say a story ... I went to a village for some official work n there I found a strange thing ... during marriage whose father give maximum dowry that woman get maximum respect in her new family ..n whose husband has monetary power more that woman's anklets r that much bigger ...
its may be simple or not but this is the way...ppl treat woman...
not the humanity or respect or love
maximum portion of society don't consider woman as living entity

Good post Shruthi.I would like to just add one more aspect to this post .Today we educate our girls and make them independent. But after marriage it is expected that the girl manage both the home and the professional life and if they are not able to do so then quit their jobs.As we educate our daughters to mange a home and accept the husbands family as their own we need to educate our sons to learn to respect a woman and support her.Teach your son that a successful home is where there is mutual respect between the parents and the elders in the family.
I think King Janak was an exemplary father and Sita was lucky that she got Ram who totally understood her upbringing.

U nailed it shruti👍🏼👏
literally dont know what to say...Raavan is example of those who think...that this universe to me as i have born into this world i have done a great...thing so if i have done that so the universe now in return has to give my karzzz...😕..(In form of anything)

Raavana ----to whom u are disgarding and challenging the one who brought...u into the universe...like seriously kidooo grow up ...😆😆😆

Mahadev will be like -----murkh tu bhul gaya hai tu agar saab ka baap hai to mein tera baap hun(sorry for language ) but cant help it out..

and most irony-''-jitney jarrorat meri appko hai utni hi aapko meri...''

again---Mahadev...aha mera pass to kuch kaam hai nahin ki teri bhakti ki shakti ka hissab karun beth ke..🥱

sorry i am in great joy mode now because i am ...just drooling over the dialouge writer i must say they are doing fab job👏..

and moreover daughters,,women are shakti...not anyones property is she is lakshmi at the same time she is Durga too if she is sarawaswati at the same time she is chandi to..

if she give birth at the same women she can destroy u too..but alsh this small thing...is hard to put into human small little brains resullting...Raavana to prevail in todays house in almost 35 percent of the population..

Grow up society grow up people...that would i saay..

@jayashree I know son preference happens in educated societies also. I have friends who tell it is better to have sons than daugthers.
@swatsu didnt you see Ram toiling out in the farm today. The way he helped the old lady. He respected the culture of Mithila where janak does farming. yes he didnt know, but he tried earnestly despite being a prince. Before becoming Sita's husband he gave respect to the land she was born and the culture she was bought up. Men today demand Sita's. It is time women tell be " Ram" to anyone who tells that.
Again coming to family and working. That is also where woman has to take the call. She has to make the choice, for herself , for the future generation. I know a lot of ladies in my office who struggle through things but have managed to climb the ladder of success. Today they are there, tomorrow many more from younger generation can come. So aspiration for daughters should not stop.

That's why I said Shiv Dhanush. If women discover their personal strength, then they can demand or society will be forced to make the demand. Because Sita lifted dhanush Janak could keep the demand of lifting the dhanush for her wedding. If the women doesnt discover her personal strength or she is not directed towards her personal strength, then she cannot demand. I would make yourself eligible to demand the best. It will be as hard as lifting the Shiv Dhanush but it is worth it.

@antika dont worry. We all can drool on Ravan. Next few days stage belong to him. 😆😆

@Krishna as an active member of the CSR wing in my org dealing with education sector the toughest thing I have encountered is changing attitudes towards girls education. Marriage still stands as a barrier on what a girl should study or should not study. No one is understanding what she studies is her ticket to liberalization from the norm.

Shruthi, wonderful interpretation of shiva dhanush as the unique strength of Sita that protected her from marrying Ravana !
Taking your thinking further of girls being a commodity, Ravana also is more interested in what Sita will bring to him, than Sita as a person who he dismisses

while Ravana claims to be the biggest Bhakt of shiva, he has completely missed a couple, of facts :

1. Bhakti and humility are intertwined, one without the other is just not possible

2. God would not be impressed through gold and silver and grandeur, it's simple acts of faith and goodness that will bring God closer to us, not boastful proclamations!

Ravana has also forgotten the basic niceties and courtesies and is completely focused on his self- he displays asura pravritti- inspite of his knowledge, which is shallow as true gyan by definition will bring humility!

He thrives on sycophancy and needs constant acknowledgement of his superiority, thereby displaying some sort of hidden insecurity!

@Arshics those days asura was a different person, today these qualities exist in every person. We need to learn the asura language and I am happy SKR is showing it like this with innate selfish qualities than the one we usually get. The demons that terrorize. In Ravan's dialogues CVs are bringing out the society where Purush hold importance over and above Prakriti, which is much needed for our society.

Lovely thoughtful post is become a routine with u Shruthi. Yes, I too noted that dialogue & one more dialogue which amused me was at last he said to Lord Shiva, Pls don't let me get insulted at least this time around, which means overtime he has tried to prove he si greatest Shiv bhakt he has been taught a lesson & he is also a bit skeptical about it LOL..😆

Hi Shruti
I have been a silent reader of your posts and have always found them to be as interesting as the episodes themselves .The irony in Ravan's statement is just so beautiful. Where today he can't be even be bothered to pay attention to Sita,;the same Ravan would in future kidnap her...forcibly keep her in Lanka and would turn a deaf ear to all the well meaning advise to return her to her husband resulting in losing everything-his Lanka, his sons and brothers and ultimately his life! What a way to close a loop!
